Not too sure. It does look to have legs.
He's not currently a listed player, so basically he's an employee who's taken drugs on his holiday.

My guess is the club sticks by him.

I'd actually be less concerned about listing him as a player than retaining him as a coach though.

I'd be a bit concerned about that influence formally on a young Flynn or a Briggs if he's in a position of authority.

Given the Whitfield saga wasn't so long ago I would be very surprised if the club stuck by him

Whitfield to me was mostly mishandling not his transgression. Had he have done nothing and the club done nothing at worst it would have been a confidential strike.

As to how the club reacts I dont know. Generally I wouldn't favour sacking employees for non work related drug use.

I hope like hell none of those "cheering him on" are our players........
I've not seen the video so posting on the back of postings only, but if it is him and was filmed anytime since he joined us I want him gone.
We don't need that sort of "leadership" at the club in any capacity

It’s really hard to explain without being seen to generalise and perhaps I am guilty of doing that but there are some intangible things which I feel are unique. Guys like Cyril Rioli, Mick O’Loughlin, Michael Long and many others just had some unique traits.

Apologise if anyone sees that as anything other than an observation and compliment.
I feel like Stack/Hill/Cameron all have a creative flare about them. Not sure why or how but feel they see the game differently, are very evasive and take the game on with dare. Of course, their leg speed and acceleration is obvious but I think this only serves to complement their unique gamestyle. When the ball comes to players like this, much like Riolis/Jettas/Liam Ryan, etc. things happen. Whilst they get caught and can make mistakes, they make crazy plays with both their vision and willingness to take on the game. Keeps the opposition and viewers on edge.

The thing is they all brought very different things to the table. They're all great players, but it's like saying I want to draft white players because of Ablett, Buckley and Akermanis.

I just think it tends to be (mis-)used as a bit of a lazy shorthand, which I guess you acknowledged that's what you were doing, when it could rule out not only guys like Daniels who also fit that speedy and creative role but also others like Franklin because he doesn't fit the usual "indigenous" stereotype.

I will be surprised if we recruit him now.

If he was on the list I'd suspect a "stand by him" approach but bringing him on to the list after this stops being a good news story and instead will become a shitshow - will his on-field impact (which I suspect might be more limited than hoped) really be worth it?

Given the tone of the now verified release, I think you might be right.

Ta
I stand corrected. Someone got hold of an early copy and tweeted it I presume. Maybe it was or circulated to the oress to give them time to publish.
Probably the latter - sent out to news organizations, then published on the website.

Let’s just hope the VFL Fleet Street crew don’t do their inevitable push for club sanctions.

This was a private matter 3 years ago, if they must deal with the individual than do so and sanction him but not every offence is a club issue.

There have been a number of unsavoury issues which have occurred over the last few years which have not resulted in club sanctions, let’s hope the AFL realise this and not over-punish their own as they are prone to do.

a) he's not a player as he's not on a list.
b) that protection is only when detected by the managing body, not external entities.

Not agreeing or disagreeing, just commenting on why it doesn't apply to him.

But he was on the list when it happened that's the issue

Are you suggesting the AFL should somehow prevent drug-related news stories from any source? I don't think that's very practical or even possible short of constant legal action on a very tenuous basis.

Given the club statement concedes it's true, the only possible legal action I can imagine would be criminal charges against Mummy for cocaine use. A fine no doubt and not a huge deal.

I think it should happen and I'm surprised it hasn't been mentioned in the press as yet. It's complicated whether I agree with the law, but if it's on the books it has to be pursued to prevent corruption in my opinion.

I meant the AFL suing everyone to hush it up, given Simmo's comment that since Mumford was on a list when the video was taken he should have some layer of protection to stop this getting out.

It's next to impossible to get a conviction on drug use based off a video. Everyone "knows" it's drugs but there's no way to prove it in court without toxicology or blood testing, neither of which is possible years after the date. As far as we know it could be talcum powder or chalk or whatever else (haha yeah right, but there's a higher standard in the courts).
