Trade our 2 x 2nd rounders to North or Sydney for their 1st rounder.
Take that 1st rounder along with any PP and our natural 1st rounder to the draft.
Throw the kitchen $ink at Shiel and use our 2019 1st rounder to pay.
With our natural pick 1 id take Walsh.
With the traded in (North/Sydney) 1st rounder and the PP id take another mid and a quality small forward.

We don't need 5 thats excessive id be happy with 2. Sheil and say horlin smith.... one will cost us the other will cost us nothing and natural development will help the others because we will also get fasolo and I don't want too many spots taken away from development because sometimes things change and quickly I think dow will average 20 next year same with sps and fisher

So how do we go about developing TDK properly? Fully fit, Kreuzer would be ruck with Harry and Charlie in the forward line. Would we still play him as we did today week in week out or is that too tall? Then does TDK only cement his spot when Kreuzer retires...which could be at least a few years away.

Who's the midfielders at around 25 years old we can get to help in 2019. I reckon we need 4-5

Dahlhaus as a FA
Miles is a hard bodied inside mid.
Brad Crouch is a gun and from Victoria. Injuries an issue
Shiel from GWS would be great
Gaff as FA would be awesome but unlikely

any others?

Nelson Schloithe Grigg Fisher as possible rookies?
I'd like Brodie Setterfield Atley and/or Cerra but they are young and need time
Lloyd would be really good but more a running defender

Tom Lynch nominates .....insert club name here.

Take that club name and target payers, there will be something of value squeezed out.

Lets say Dylan wants to come to us and GWS are open to letting him go, why would they accept a trade that sees them not getting paid for a valuable asset for over 12 months?

A part of the appeal for them imo would be getting a year of development in to a young kid so that in 2020 that player will/could be a good contributor to the team.

He is contracted for next year, they don't have to trade, i just don't see them accepting anything other than 2018 picks.

They get desperately needed salary cap relief by moving him on this year and they would recieve a projected top 4 selection from us as opposed to a projected very late 1st rounder as FA compo.
Reckon Silvagni would be loathe to involve pick 1 this year but any PP would probably be negotiable if GWS were adamant about recieving 2018 picks.

I'd rather give our 2 seconds than our pick 1

So how is the deal with Footscray last year panning out ?
From memory :
Pick 16 (Richards) and another later pick (2018/2019) ?
For :
Pick 28 (Kennedy) pick 30 (TDK) and pick 23 (2018)
Its early days. But id say kennedy will be a player and i have high hopes for tdk. And 23 could be approx 28 or so, so a hit or miss maybe?
Dogs at this stage would be happy but we wont know our end of the deal for a few years yet

Could become very difficult to track if we use pick 23 this year to trade down for a possible North/Sydney 1st rounder ...

TDK was given a taste today may get another next week. Unless he rips a new one in the last game he will be given a list of KPI's he will need to meet and will play most of his games for Northern with the occasional stint in the ones for development. He will get there when he he has more to offer than one of senior supporting rucks.

With Rowe ageing, the inability of Phillips and Kruzer to stay on the park he will get a look in a few times in 2019.

Got say been really impressed with Harry McKay this year, think SOS has smashed this pick out of the park, was always going to be a high risk, high reward type and it’s starting to look like we’ve found our CHF.
Monster 204cm key forward, that moves like that and has the skills to go with it, kid could be unstoppable once he’s fully developed and we have a gun midfield.

I know we despritely need more A grade midfield talent, but imagine a forward line with Harry Charlie and Rankine and one of Lukosius Max King Ben King, very few opposition teams would be able to match up on that forward line, we would have some serious fire power.

He's still a little apprehensive about crashing packs, but he's starting to get out on the lead more (drawing frees due to his height and wingspan). He's going to trouble blokes one out on the lead for his whole career. He's showing really good mobility too, and is a good kick and good below his knees for a tall bloke. He's quick enough for sure (surprisingly fast even).

Also needs a bit more of a tank.

Needs to smash the gym over Xmas, while also not skimping on the cardio. Shave some decent time off his time trial, and be 4-5 kgs heavier by round 1 2019. I want to see some blokes getting burnt off him with him working up and down the ground, and some defenders getting knocked over like bowling pins more often.

Im feeling much more confident with him now than I was at the start of the year. Reckon he's going to make it.

2018 draft/trade period wIsh list...

Dom Tyson for a second rounder
Dylan Shiel using future first and exchange of pick/s
Lukosious with pick 1

Whatever periphery stuff gets done on top of that by SoS I’m ok with.

Adding Dom Tyson and Shiel would transform our midfield and our overall fortunes. We can then further build on that over 2019/20/21.

Dom Tyson adds 23-26 possessions a game instead of a kid getting 15-17. Shiel adds more. Both due to age make better decisions in the the corridor than our youngsters right now.

It's why having a strong reserves is vital. Playing with good players and competing for spots will help dramatically in 2019. Giving him a taste before the pre season is a massive positive and should have him motivated for the pre season. 10-12 games next year would be a great effort

As exciting as that looks does that tall forward line work these days? We also have TDK so a King doesn't make sense to me. Lukosius is a bit different so maybe? I watched Melbourne yesterday and with Hogan they played Melksham at FF and looked good against a good WCE defence.

IMO we need mids and runners. We have most other spots covered.
