3 players under 21 and 1 under 22 and they have "no scope for improvement". Fair dinkum

I’m calling it. Every other player getting games has shown something to show they’ve got a future. The aforementioned are making up the numbers and getting gifted games due to our lack of depth, and will struggle with another draft and trade period behind us.

Would love to be proven wrong, but I highly doubt it. We’re not talking about key position talent either.

Sorry but I find that a very poor, naive comment and totally incorrect and fortunately the club does as well

Lang has been patchy, but isn't seriously deficient, Polson has been building, Silvagni needs to be settled into a position and Cuningham has been injured.

They aren't write off's yet

Lang is one I can see being a decent contributor. Polson’s AFL IQ is poor - he’s a trier but for his position he’s too unclean, not quick and very low production, Silvagni id like to come on but too slow and there’s no clear position, Cuningham has been unlucky but he’s another I haven’t seen much from - even in spite on injury. He’s also limited.

How many elite/very good players join the 18th team? Doesn’t happen - as I said: myopic

We’ve seen what these guys offer. They’re all by and large very limited. Our top end young talent is very good, it’s about closing the gap between the next tier.

Myopic ...... Short-sighted, unimaginative, uncreative, narrow minded, short term

I guess you have already put a line through players that have been in the system less than 3 years.

Lucky Dan Butler wasn't on our list

I stand by it too, until I see something otherwise.

That’s the nature of making predictions.

He’s played some good footy at Essendon, he’s just had a down year and found himself on the outer
Not talking about his skill level. Originally you mentioned his leadership and those other ‘intangibles’. I think he rates very poorly in those areas. Do you disagree? Comes across as far too polarising and short tempered. Too much so especially for such a young group.

The nature of assessing a player, is not what they are today, is what they can be tomorrow. I can guarantee, with a better quality of players on the park to support the developing youth, the better the output.

Like many had Weitering traded, like many thought that Harry was a bust, like many thought that Fisher wouldn't cut it.

Fasolo was a good player but seems to have developed problems and is outside of where I think our age demographic should be. Nothing about Goddard fits Carlton.

I think it would be a failed draft/trade period if any of them ended up on our list.
Fasolo i think could be a very handy addition. At worst his body fails him. Think he could be a similar type to Wright but has more leg speed. Worth the risk imo

It's a tough game list management. Keep persisting with young talent like Le Bois and Polson or make quick decisions. Some end up a Butler/K Simpson but most end up a Buckley or K Lucas. Your Simpsons are the needle in the haystack. Holding on too long means you miss the T Kelly's, Hibberds, Mihoceks of the world which are also needles (requires quick rating and then list turnover for guys who do not show enough).

Wayne Hughes had a history of waiting too long. Armfield, Buckley, Setanta, White, Jaksch and a whole host of others.

Tough gig.

Getting this right is the difference between those sides forging up the ladder.

I dont see anything in Polson or Lebois but understand they deserve their chance. After 3 years i'd rather a hard nosed decision as 3 years is enough. Currently Polson's only green shoot is running hard in our fwd 50 quite often just off the pace. I absolutely believe he is giving his all and is improving with hitting targets the few times he touches it. Tackling is overall weak with the occasional good tackle. His game sense and decision making is poor. Le Bois just not making enough of an impression despite injuries.

I'm not being overly negative here IMO. I see multiple shoots in lots of other young blues who 'also' need further development to cut it at AFL level (Cuningham, Pickett). I see they have more strings to their bow than the 2 previously mentioned.

I'm not even saying these two should be cut in 2018 as others are more in line than these two. I just don't see enough in these two. It really shouldnt be hard for SoS to find a def fwd 50 player with a bit more speed and strength than Polson. I just tihnk the way SoS does it, that this priority had to wait.

Polson not quick? WTF? He may have deficiencies, but pace isn't one of them.

Ridiculous to write off players who are so young. Jack and Cunners both got Rising Star nominations last year, they've shown something.

All about context. Essendon are aiming to take the next step and be a consistent finals team but have enough talent and leadership on their list.

We need experience and more vocal leaders out on the field.

BJ would be perfect
Goddard isnt a leader he's a dictator that doesnt practice what he preaches .
He's a complete passenger when it comes to the defensive side of the game .

This is exactly it. I’d much rather the players make it, but I personally can’t see it. It’s exceptionally rare for whole draft crops to make it, and Polson is the outlier of that 2016 group IMO - that’s just the nature of it.

Makes sense. They are older

Of course but they were both AFL standard from the beginning and have played high-level footy since. There’s evidence there.

The most we have seen is very glimpses from a few of the highlighted players.

How ****ing good would it be for our club if we gave Tom Wilson a crack. At 26 If hes gonna get a go, it’s now. He can show some of these young afl boys what’s required to get the most out of yourself. Look if a Podsiadly can get another go then TW can.

I’m not sure if there’s any player I want less than BJ.

Just no idea what he would bring except for an increase to our average age and games tallies.

He plays a defensively unaccountable floating role out the back getting easy uncontested possessions and pointing the finger.

Remembering to consider the way his ability is declining, out of our backline next year who would you put BJ in ahead of? Marchbank? Weitering? What about any of Doc, Simmo, Daisy, Byrne, Willo, Macreadie?

I just don’t understand how he would bring us anything of value.
