Rowe obviously thought this was allowed after last weeks incident.
Was about to post the same thing. They aren't exactly the same but near enough that ignoring one and a 50m penalty plus fine for another is laughably dumb.

WTF seriously Michel Christian!

OMG the AFL is a ******* joke of an organisation. So a bloke trips over and accidently knees this protected prick and gets a $1500 fine yet the same guy can elbow another player in the face all clear. Pathetic. Maybe Rowe had delayed concussion from last week after having his head forced into the ground and then the toe tap to his head which coincidently was not cited either. M.Christian needs to go ASAP.

Can't believe that. Rowe's feet were tangled in Franklin's legs as Franklin went to ground (in fairness, Rowe had delivered a decent clip to the ear as part of the attempted spoil!). I thought the 50m penalty was harsh as Rowe was clearly off balance, but the umpire has to make a call on the spot, and you accept the decision. Why does Christian need to come over the top the next day? The on-field penalty was plenty.

Contrast that with flopping Sinclair, completely deliberate weak staging prick, still got to keep his free kick on the field, I suppose we ought to be grateful he got any fine at all.

I don't mind the idea of a Match Review Officer, but as people have said, it should be an experienced ex-umpire. They'd have the benefit of knowing the rules, and could hardly have less credibility than Michael Christian.

One wonders if it would be a better idea to have an umpire/umpires as the MRO/MRP. They are mostly neutral, less likely to be mates with anyone involved with the AFL clubs & have a better understanding of the rules. It clearly hasn't worked with ex-players in the role.

tell that to this guy..........

Don't be ridiculous!

One was to Sam who? By Sam who?

The other was done by who cares to Lance 'Buddy' Franklin.

There's your difference. You can't do that to a marquee player; everyone else, though, is fair game. That is, unless the media all collectively decide that these rules don't apply this week.

Are you telling me the AFL plays favourites:eek:

Neil Mitchell 3aw said he will ask Gilmac this Friday, as to why Dustbin got a fine and Ed Curnow got a week? Now just have to remember to listen.
Because Of the timing Hawkins getting suspend & the hysterical media

Neil is pretty adamant that the rules have been changed. Fancy that, the AFL not being consistent. It's not like it was last year that Ed got done, so it is just such a bizarre decision.

That’s crazy...they make it up as they go

That whole incident was a fiasco

Michael Christian is adamant that the rules have not been changed. You know how he can be so sure? Because there never were any rules to begin with!

"There's nothing really to change because at the moment there's no real clear, specific guidelines around what constitutes the various aspects of umpire contact.... we've certainly tried to interpret what that actually means"

I'm not sure who was tweeting live from the tribunal for Ed's case, as I was trying to find his transcript, where he quoted the AFL's QC, stating players who touch an umpire even when demonstrating their actions are intentionally touching an umpire and should be suspended. Even though May had no case to answer.
