Technically they probably don't need to be upgraded. We'd be able to forgo the two senior list slots and pick up additional rookies. Or just pick other players.

The draft/trade/list size stuff is complex. And us laymen are not privy to probably 3/4s of what goes on.

Maybe we have others lined up we want with late picks. Maybe a call gets made draft night.

You would have to be crazy to join GC at the moment. They have a proven record of ruining young kids who join there and spitting them out the other end as broken footballers. Only the exceptional talents have survived and even then some of them have completely disappeared off the face of the football earth.

I wouldn't say $600k for Polec is anywhere close to overpaying in the current market. The five years is riskier than the coin.

Remember when Mayne got 500k to play in the VFL. I'd much rather pay an extra 100k-200k to get a genuine out and out gun, averaging 25 dpg, plenty of pace, great ball use, then a 100-200k less to get a guy that is 50/50 whether he plays AFL footy.

Front loading is better for everyone concerned.

We should front end both his and Gaff's contracts. It should actually make us more appealing as a club.

Jared well give you $600k a year and we'll give you $1.2 of that in you first year.

You'll be on $450k a year after your first.

Makes sense for everyone;

- Club gets to the minimum salary cap level
- Club frees up cap space for more acquisitions in future years
- Player can invest/use their money sooner to make more money
- Allows the club to become stronger

We're in a fantastic spot at the moment, whilst we've had a couple of lean years, front ending a lot of these contracts over the past few years will have left us with a shit load of flexibility over the next 3-5 years. I'd love to see our books just to see how much flexibility we do in fact have.
