If we could get Ryan Byrnes it would be ideal. He's like Jack Steven in his game style and Dragons captain.

I kind of hoped we could get him when it looked like we'd have a pick in the thirties.
Not to be.

On draft night I'd do our 2020 1st to cats for pick 14 + 2020 2nd round pick.

I reckon there would be some handy players available at 14.

I don't think we can, only way we'd be allowed to trade our 2020 1st is if we got someone else's back under current rules

Everyone would do that trade except the cats. :/
Please stop this sort of talk.
Seriously our first next year , in a compromised draft , may be later than 14. And then they will sweeten it with a second?

Just STOP!!!

I think he's star as a small forward but only an okay mid. He's wasted. The club weren't against trading him, if he was star mid they'd hammer the lid closed on him leaving under any circumstance. He's got time to become a gun mid but you wouldn't want to base your side around his midfield minutes.
Surely he's going to be smashing it with the likes of Hill And Hanners increasing the quality of flow...

I hope so, I still think he's best as a small forward though, having a run on the ball periodically suits him more. He seems to lose concentration when he plays in the mids for too long. He has bursts of effort rather than consistency.

If he's kicking 35 goals who bloody cares about forward pressure.
Goals are literally the game. If you lose the grand final, you don't get a medal for providing good forward pressure.
This year Gresham was second behind Kent for goal assists per game ( not counting Rowe ).
Others who assisted goals as much were Young, Newnes and Acres.

I don't buy the crap about Lonie either. I think you are talking about Lonie three seasons ago, certainly not Lonie at the start of season 2019.
None of our forwards did decent crumbing this year. Butler won't fix that.
Unless our talls mark everything that comes in, we're going to be stuck trying to turn over the ball on the way back out again.
In regards to no one doing decent crumbing....Yep and whilst getting teary watching some of the highlights reel of Steven MILNE (exhausting as it is in its neccessary length) you soon realise just how desperately we need a crumber/trad rover kind of player in the MILNE mould......... so many goals go begging in our game for want of one such a player. I think PARKER has a bit of this capability but built for a different purpose.

Interesting on the current BF phamtom draft Biggy was bid on at pick 35.

Pick 35 (Saint Kilda Matched Bid) - Bigoa Nyuon

The Saints were always going to have an interesting draft with lots of picks in the nethersphere; the % likelihood of Bigoa making it is not as good as one would like for a pick 35 but remembering this is a drawdown from Pick 50 something; comparison has to be done with what will likely be there at that stage. What he does have is fantastic athleticism and ball handling skills and that is something valuable at this range out. He is also very raw, so plenty of opportunity to iron out the inconsistencies in his game. Having the consistency of development with the Saints is also something I also see as an advantage, which was an influence in matching.

I think he could be a backman (maybe third tall) or a useful ruck / forward utility (at his current height I am not sure he could be a first choice ruck) but it's a bit too early to say.

If he was bid on at 35 (522 points) we wouldn't have enough points this year to match the bid?

So how much would we go down in the draft next year if we had , say pick 8?

George mentioned it last week and it makes sense that the Saints would add Biggy as Category B rookie (if possible). I just looked it up and he definitely falls into that category -

Category B rookies

Each club is permitted to recruit up to three "Category B" rookies. Category B rookies are recruited directly rather than drafted, and represent players from non-traditional recruiting backgrounds. Players who may be recruited as Category B rookies include:[1]

Indigenous and multicultural players through their Next Generation Academy zones

That would give him plenty of time to develop and saves us using points/picks drafting him, obviously he would have to agree to it.

He would also need to get through the national draft without being nominated. We can't just nominate him as a Category B rookie today.

This article suggests Sandringham have signed up Goy Lok from Frankston this year. Hint that we will be bringing in Bigoa and have another young man of indigenous African decent to go through the system with him (albeit at Sandy)?

Think this is a good move and my thoughts leading up to the draft was that it needed to happen to create an environment which gets the best out of Bigoa, although I am not close to the situation and may not be something he needs to succeed.

The way I read it Cat B rookies are excempt from that process unlike Cat A rookies. Its my understanding we can sign Cat B at any time avoiding the draft, thats of course that he is happy to go that way.

I get confused by the racial undertones of the "multicultural players ".
Biggy moved to Australia as a very young child i think.

Can we also get anyone who was born in Greece, Italy, Serbia, England, New Zealand, South Africa?

Or is it some weird system that the AFL has for appearing politically correct and getting "blacks" onto the list.

Looks like this is most likely the case. I don't think anyone will make a bid on him.

Both Goy and Biggy are both South Sudanese.
Goy Based on this interview Goy sounds like a well adjusted sensible young man with a great attitude.

It's a bit confusing.
If that was the case then why would anyone draft their NGA prospects in the draft when they can just take them for free?
Especially the ones that get bid on highly.

Surely NGA's have to go through at least the National draft

Agree I think as stated by Significant they must have to be passed over or not bid on in the draft.

Yep all of those can get a spot. If you see the kids at the NGA there are lots from different backgrounds. One of the kids that my son played with is there and in the SMJFL feeder team for the Dragons. His dad is from a Maltese background and his mum was born in Lebanon but he looks Italian. Another one of his ex team mates has a mum born in Africa because her parents were English diplomats. He's more white than my son who doesn't qualify despite his maternal side being pure Croat. He started in the first intake but got turfed out for not having a parent born overseas.

As good as it is with all the new recruits, it makes the lead up to the draft bloody boring. Out of curiousity, we still have pick 6 and Rowell, Anderson and green are off the board, who would everyone take? Toss up between serong and ash for me. A combo of serong and Gresham rotating mid/ forward would be drool worthy. Ash also looks a class act.

Lachie Ash, Flanders or Robertson.

Flanders stocks have risen rignificantly after kicking 6 in 1 quarter, but I still like the SA Dylan Stephens - he has the outside zip and bullet kicking we need.
