Agree. I have said it all along that if you finished 12th and up, you would take Rankin at 1. If Rankin fulfils his potential, his ceiling is higher than Walsh. Walsh is a safe bet that is almost a guaranteed gun. Rankin is highly probably to becoming a superstar.

Biggest question is on his attitude, and whether he's got the work ethic to step up now that he's in the big leagues.

You'd think/hope so, but we thought the same thing about Daisy and he's well established in our 22 - even if many still don't rate him. He continues to surprise us all.
Let’s be honest we didn’t have much else to choose from. If he’s getting games next year then hopefully it’s so we can rest the youngsters and not overload them. If he’s in our best 22 week in week out then we’ve got problems.
I love his energy and endeavour but imo he’s cooked.

Just like Murph, I'm hoping we have a little less reliance on Ed next season in the engine room (in terms of ball winning, clearances, etc).

If alongside Cripps, the likes of Kennedy, Dow, Setterfield (Samo, Fish, Stocker, LOB, etc) can do enough of the heavy lifting then Ed can focus on being a shutdown player and running some poor bastard off his feet (while still collecting his own 25 odd).

While Ed has played some great games as a ball-winning mid in his own right, I think the best for the team will be him tagging the bajeebus out of an opposition a-grade midfielder.

Similarly Murph should be able to spend less time at the coalface getting smashed and more time with a little space when he can do more damage with his disposal.

Going to be very interesting watching over preseason, JLT and up to round 1, trying to scope how the 'best 22' is shaping up. Could be something crazy like 12 changes from our rd23 team.

But still managed to average 4 tackles a game in 2018 after 3.9 in 2017.

I think he gets a load of low impact tackles in the pack.

The tackling issues stems from what seems like a lot of missed tackles on players who are on the move. Not sure if it's just bias or a real entity.

Many thought - myself included - Daisy was cooked last year. Get the feeling he enjoys proving people wrong.

Murphy will play every game next year assuming he is fit and still be one of our most important players.

We need to keep our expectations in check for some of these young mids. Setterfield, Walsh, Stocker have 2 games between them. Dow and O'Brien 20 games, the list goes on.

Its hard enough being an inexperienced player but even harder playing amongst other inexperienced players.

Dont get me wrong, the names, the talent is there but they still have a long way to go before theyre performing consistently to the point Murph isn't getting a game.

I've been a critic of his leadership, but I think Murphy will still be a contributor for our next flag.
Unfortunately a loser mentality is deeply ingrained in our older players. The club will only truly flourish once they are gone. Case in point the interview from our captain after the round 1 LOSS about not getting ahead of ourselves. We still need them for now, though.

The guy said McGovern is under the pump because we gave up a lot for him. 2x 2nd rounders is not a lot. A lot is 2x 1st rounders for Beams or Lever ( now coming off a 2nd ACL) or Treloar ( who’s output has been worth what they paid)

It was 2 x 2nd rounders and Shane McAdam (that many pundits rated to be drafted in the 20’s), not exactly peanuts.

Where id those Pundits have Stack going?

Looking at the players who went in the 20's I really don't think McAdam would have been taken that high.

I also think he could be around and it’s similar to the conversations that Hawthorn had during their rebuild regarding whether Shane Crawford would be around when they challenged for a flag. Even though Crawford had declined to a b grader by then, if you have somebody like that in your bottom 6 you are going pretty well.

Seriously man, the elipsis followed by a space is just offensive. Couldn't read it if I wanted to.
An ellipsis denotes missing information or further implied information but deliberately left out or assumed. I guess there might be some inference here, especially after a bottle of red. No space though...(insert random assumption).

I did say that if it all clicks, he will be a handy player, not being a natural footballer isn’t a slight on him, one could argue that Fyfe is more athlete then footballer, he’s still a gun.
Not so sure about that .
Fyfe is a footballer first , he stepped into the half fwd flank as a skinny kid in his first year and showed an amazing footy IQ early.
Add to that his amazing athletic ability and hard work ethic and you've got yourself the best player in the league 5 yrs down the track ..

I've seen all I need to. House is going down on a 2019 blues flag.
have access through my work of a list of public housing for those displaced at short notice - hit me up..........

I thinking Jimmae would not agree.

Players history and what they have done the previous season is irrelevant. Anyone who gets through the preseason and comes out fit, meets the fitness criteria and produces good form in the practice matches has every chance at being selected regardless of what they have done previous seasons.

There will be good competition for spots barring injuries. I think most players have a lot to prove this season and to cement their place in the side. There will be players with potential and ability getting cut come season's end. There will be AFL regulars and players of AFL quality playing in the reserves barring injury so form and fitness needs to be something that is presented strongly.

Could easily be a mass of changes coming from last years side. McGovern, Stocker, Docherty, Walsh, Newman, Williamson, Fasolo and Setterfield didn't play for us last year. 7-8 of those player may be bes2 22 this season and play round 1.

Kennedy, Plowman, Dekoning, Jones, Garlett, Marchbank, Fisher, Cuningham, Polson, Pickett and Murphy only played a bit last season. Around 6 or 7 of them are probably best 22.

Then there are some bolters. Schumacher, Macreadie, Kerr. They are all pretty raw but you can't write them off from working their way into the side.

Changes will be massive if nothing goes wrong. Fit players with talent and a good mentality could go a long way in this team.

I think even the football department might have a bit of figuring out to do when it comes to best 22 and I hope that is the case.
