Definitely in our bottom 6 players unfortunately, I'd take Walsh, Stocker, Newman, Fasolo, McGovern and Setterfield over him so the newcomers have gone past already i'd say.

Thought as much . Go pols you got one shot one opportunity.

Don’t know about that, he’d be in the top 30 for AFL selection, especially with some further hard yards put in over the pre-season.
Work ethic seems well impressed upon the coaching dept., a bit of experience gained & some CamPosure should see him in the mix.

The guy said McGovern is under the pump because we gave up a lot for him. 2x 2nd rounders is not a lot. A lot is 2x 1st rounders for Beams or Lever ( now coming off a 2nd ACL) or Treloar ( who’s output has been worth what they paid)
Jury is out for Mcgovern. Two second rounders is overs based on his age and output thus far. Those two second rounders got Adelaide pick 13 and Mcadam.

So was Setterfield. 20 year old a former pick 5 and he only cost us a second rounder.
You reckon the jury is out on McGovern and which jury is that? As far as I’m concerned he’s well and truly proven what he can do at AFL level.
We get exactly what we need with him and that’s a big bodied experienced player with tricks to support a list chock full of babies and 2 second rounders is a fair price to pay.

People often quote McGovern's measly 1.5 goal average as a slight against him. But I'd be interested to know how many games he has played in defence. Any takers?

Also, find me some top forwards that kicked much more than 1.5 goals a game in their first 48 matches....

So you reckon pick#13 whoever that is and McAdam whoever that is - have more runs on the board than McGovern then?
OR
You must be arguing that a high school footballer and a State league player - would be a better fit for needs at Carlton than McGovern

I'm not saying you are wrong, only time will tell re McGoivern or the other two - I am just questioning how you can argue this point of view - I don't know if the background assumptions you are counting on to be true are there to make your point.

You contend that he’ll never produce anything.

I know that one club had him at 15 on their draft list.

I know 1 Club that didn't have him anywhere on their list. Carlton.

And i know 1 Club that utilised the AFL's "gift" in the best possible way for their list, getting in a highly valued mature, dangerous forward to help our baby KPF's Curnow and McKay. Carlton.

We traded 2 late 20's picks and McAdam for McGovern and a 3rd Rounder. Very happy with that. He did not cost us Pick 13. Adelaide had to add their own Pick 40 to our 2 seconds to aquire Pick 13.

A 1.5 goal average in a forward line which also included Betts, Walker, Seagull & Lynch is good in anyone's language, regardless of how many games he has played in defence.

This translates to a 33 goal season (potentially high 30s if playing finals). Charlie kicked 34 goals this year as our #1 forward, as did Levi last year. If McGovern is going at a 33 goal per season forward as virtually the 5th banana in the Crows forward line, he is already ahead of where a 48 game forward should be.

I can't see next year being as much as a development* year as I see it being a results year.
* By development, I mean; Let's play him just to give him a feel and get some games into him.
100%!
There won’t be any more situations like giving SPS a game round 1 after next to no pre-season and no jlt. I’m not concerned about the age of the 22 that take the field, I just want to see the best team to get a win. From wins, confidence will grow and with that confidence the development and maturity of the youngsters will grow exponentially.

I also agree with harker regarding Walsh. With his already impressive running capability I will be very surprised should he not make the round 1 team (barring injury concern).
