If we are optimistic and say we will win a flag in 2 years I don't think we need Plowman. Weitering, Jones, Marchbank, Casboult, + McGovern should go down there plus the younger key backs seem cover enough. If we go long term and say flag in 6 years we will have Weitering, Marchbank, McGovern plus the young guys we have now will be at their peak. Silvagni or Kennedy can play 3rd tall to support McKay and Curnow if need be but no reason those two aren't enough on their own. We should be doing something about getting value for Plowman while we can.
Same with SPS, Fisher and Dow. I don't know whether 3 guys who are so small by AFL standards can be in a 22 that wins a flag. All three are AFL standard but all 3 together do hurt in finals intensity games. Fisher is the one I would be looking at trading, Dow #2 pick and been ordinary this year but has great upside and SPS can do silky things other footballers can't.
You were going so well until the last three lines.

Feel like it's a bit early to go down that path - we don't know who else might choose to leave between now and then, and it's pretty common for good players to play reserves footy when their team is contending for a flag.

If we got to 2021 and were sniffing around the top 4, and one of those players had been squeezed out of the 22 and wanted to explore other options - that's when you trade them. Shopping around talented 20-23yo players while you're near the bottom of the ladder doesn't get you far. Rehoming good players who can't break into a top 4 side tends to get you overs. And in the time between, you get a better idea of who your best 22-30 are and what your list needs in return.

Yeah be happy to wait a few years until sniffing around the top 4 as you say.

Is Mabior Chol another option for some cheap ruck backup?

Tigers rookie list (one of 8 rookies!), 200cm, I think he's about 22. I haven't seen much of him play, haven't caught any of the last 5 Tigs games where he's played. Think he's playing predominantly fwd based of his averages:
10.8 disp, 3.4 marks, 1.4 goals, 2.4 tackles, 8.8 hitouts, just the 62% TOG.

Maybe I'm off the mark here, but could be a couple of year stopgap until TDK is ready to take the reigns.
Looks like he could make a player. Great athleticism, second and third efforts and uses the ball exceptionally well for a big man. Don’t think they’ll let him go without a fight from what he’s showing

Rather Shai. For some reason I have affection for his surname.

Agree. I do like baker for his tenacity and competitiveness but have a feeling Bolton is gonna be a little special.

If we even get one off this list I’ll be stoked :

Papley
Bolton
Hill
Cogs

That will do me

If we get the opportunity for any of these crazy cheap I’ll listen too. But I’d have focus on premiums above

Baker/Martin/Langdon/other hill/bonar/ Brodie
Sauce/ tip/ taylor /Cameron

Prefer if we didn't get Hill (IF we got Cogs). Just My Opinion but think our midfield will look substantially better this year with each of the players taking a jump forward. the SPS/Fisher duo will be prime age IMO

The mid rotation would be enough then.

No way they giving up Ben Ainsworth. He'd be in top 3 or 4 most important players on their list in terms of where they want to take themselves next decade.
Top 5 pick of a draft at minimum just to even get to talk trade...
Even then they would be mad to let him go. Won't happen.
Papley is more gettable.

Agree, the Suns are desperately in need of leadership, and they cant afford to be getting rid of what little experience they have for cheap. They may consider a trade that enables them to get an even more experienced player of similar talent- but who is going to offer that? The major problem for the suns is that they keep on pumping in young players at the bottom; but lose Lynches, Mays etc- hardly like for like

Dow is 187cm and 83kg.

That's not exactly small for a 19 year old kid.

It's just madness to even think about trading any of him, Fisher or SPS at this stage.
one way or the other they all get to run with the trade-bulls................it will happen with cripps and has even included silvagni can you believe it.........

I was going to ask what the hell you are on about but than realised you are obviously not on a phone. My last three lines are

Dow #2 pick and been ordinary this year but has great upside and SPS can do silky things other footballers can't.

Quick question for someone that knows more than I.

How much would it cost in picks to get Ainsworth out of Goldcoast?
I think he could be a star small fwd mid for us , approaching his 3rd year and probably ready to go.
Still Contracted so imo would need to be an offer around #15-#20mark ...

Those three won't be going anywhere, you don't trade out your future stars ...

there is such a thing as team cohesion and unity - geelong's 22 during their 3 flags are the best recent example of this for mine...........

Yes. What I’ve been banging on about. This group is tight and developing together. That’s massive. Recruits should be additions by draft, trading picks or FAs nothing else

The Suns will honestly be fine on-field wise. Heck, I dont think they'll even be as bad we were between 2015-2018.

In 2015 we started our core with 3 early picks: Weitering, Curnow, McKay
In 2018 GC drafted: King, Luko, Rankine
In 2016-2018 we continued to accumulate young talent, as GC look destined to do.
We had very few senior players: Murphy, Curnow, Kreuzer, Simpson, Docherty...with others like Jones surprising

GC already have: Swallow, Martin, Witts, Wright, Ainsworth, Weller...guys like Miles could surprise and become core pieces

Heck, look at how they fares pre-injuries. They are nowhere close to the basket case it is made out to be. We were worse on-field at times, just that people hate us.

Dow 187cm, SPS 182cm, fisher 177cm

Hugh Mccluggage 186cm, Lachie Neale 177cm, Dayne Zorko 175cm

Brisbane should just go home then.

Trading our high draft pics defeats the purpose of going through this whole rebuild. none going anywhere. Trading any of them for any reason would cause more uproar than not hiring david teague.

Just a question: who would it cause an uproar with?

100%. We have the talent. The biggest improvement will come from within especially after this pre season. That’s what’s exciting
Another preseason with Russell, the addition of a couple of best22 players and a healthy list then lets see what can happen under Teaguey...
