Look for all the port bagging that we do..they had the guts to run a number of their kids and younger / less experienced players through the team regularly this year. Yep it may be unlikely they play finals but rozee, duursma, butters, garner and guys like howard, byrne jones, leinert etc are getting great gametime and this puts them in a better position next year. We are behind them in that regard
This is what I said before, for all of Hinkleys faults, atleast he's looking long term and not running the list into the ground.

He's wasting existing talent, but atleast he's bought in new.

Pyke right now isn't offering anything constructive.

It's not only not in the same ballpark, it isn't even on the same planet it's that wide apart. Just accept that you stuffed up and we can move on.

I think he has a point, though

We're looking as useless as they are, except they actually have some promising kids under 20 years old who've played a dozen AFL games

Who needs to get finicky about details when the result is both clubs are in shit creek but they actually have some young rowers in the boat while we've got Douglas and Mackay

10 years later and I'm wondering if 2017 is gonna be our 119

Dead right - I don't like port at all (years of SANFL rivalry going back before the AFL), but I can call it as I see it and they for all their own issues can't be accused of not playing their youth and not being afraid to do so. Problem is at our club, it seems that our CEO and Chairman are refusing to see what the supporter base can see. Again, your chairman at least writes to his members and puts blame on his own head for how Port have been travelling and is taking ownership - our heads are nowhere near that stage yet

We'd just been in a grand final. You lock that up quick smart. To the contrary, your coach had just taken you to three hapless and final-less years. Yeah, let's lock that up! It's not only not in the same ballpark, it isn't even on the same planet it's that wide apart. Just accept that you stuffed up and we can move on.
This sums up how stupid you one eyed Crows fans are....

99% of you realise Pyke needs to go, the list needs to be gutted, the off field likewise....

But if a Port fan says it, or heck Rucci or Kane Cornes, the mindless ultra defensive drivel comes out of a select few.

Pyke was extended too early. There is ZERO threat he'll be poached in January. You just lost the GF, the smart thing would have been to see how the players responded by say April at the minimum...

It's great Hinkley has nearly seen off Wobbie and Boak. Westhoff and Ryder are cooked, was a worry when those 4 were at the top of their game.

Plus he ousted Wingehard and Polec, so he has destroyed their window, however this season he has put a lot of games into their future. We sure as hell can't say that unless Mackay, Douglas and Atkins are our future.

right now, their list is in a much healthier state than ours is with the kids they have brought in

Look back in 6 months time, if you have a cleanout like we did the last 2, things change quickly.

Though tbh I can't see them making as drastic, harder given longer contracts exist.

Jacobs and Betts could be easy choices, but it'd be more notable if they moved on someone unexpectedly (Polec and Wingard)... Someone who isn't quite done. Than you know they aren't just making soft decisions.

We just don't have faith that the powers to be will pull the lever and move some of the veterans on. There is no malcolm blight at the club anymore prepared to make the tough calls. I actually don't mind the idea of moving on a few guys with currency to either trade in players we need or to get decent draft picks to add further youth to the list. Luckily Carlton are handing over a very high pick and there are some very good kids inside the top 5 or 6 so we should get one of them - and that will be a start

Yeah I can't see the Blight style cull, but if they don't, they'll be facing a cliff next season. It'll be fascinating to see how much they do.

I actually think JJ has saved himself post dropping, so he'd be the only older one up fwd I'd persist with longer.

If they just moved on Jacobs Douglas for example, than you'd be entitled to be angry imo.

Good thing Carlton is there to help reguarly lol

yeah and it's great that Pyke has nearly seen off Walker, Sloane, Talia & Betts - it was great when those 4 were at the top of their game

Plus, we've kept Sauce, Douglas, Mackay and brought in Gibbs, so has has destroyed our window. However this season we have seen Jones play a couple of games and Fogarty has being playing defence in the twos. Our future looks great.

Can someone confirm or rebuke my assumption that the word 'flog' originated on Bigfooty?

I actually wish these journalists had the gumption to admit they use this site as a resource

Can anyone tell me why calling someone a flog gets you banned on many places of this board, yet the media is free to use that word.

Gold Coast have played a lot of youth since their inception.

All well and good to play the kids. But 100 plus games of learning bad habits give you Ollie Wines.

Poor skill base and still thinks he can just bullock his way through a contest.

SPP tracking that way.

Or how about the 100 plus games of Chad Wingard, only putting in when he feels like it and cast out and deemed lazy by your club.

X number of AFL games does not equal development.

We took different paths but ended up in the same s**t hole.

We both have to sack our coaches ASAP, but because of commercial interests, to scared to take the risk.
What a load of shit. We can afford to sack Pyke. Port can't afford to sack Hinkley. We don't necessarily need to sack Pyke. Port absolutely need to sack Hinkley. The only thing probably the same is that both sides will resist doing an external review because it will show up all the crap decisions made in their football departments.

This sums up how stupid you one eyed Crows fans are....

99% of you realise Pyke needs to go, the list needs to be gutted, the off field likewise....

Pyke was extended too early. There is ZERO threat he'll be poached in January. You just lost the GF, the smart thing would have been to see how the players responded by say April at the minimum...

And as you continue to ignore, there is a big difference between wanting him gone now, 2 years later (some do, not 99%) and whether we signed him too early

As I’ve mentioned before and you’ve conveniently ignored, there was no immediate threat but it’s very normal to REWARD a coach who gets you to a GF (even a bad losing one) and secure him BEFORE a threat comes around

And you don’t like being abused, maybe don’t abuse us

Of course it remains to be seen what happens and to what extent but I am very reliably informed that this is the way they will go

Guess who signed a contract extension February 2019? Nathan Buckley. Just lost the 2018 GF.
Guess who signed a contract extension in July 2016? John Longmire. Still had 18 months to run. Went on to lose the 2016 GF.
Guess who signed a contract extended in November 2015? Adam Simpson. Just lost the 2015 GF.
Guess who signed a contract extension in March 2014? John Longmire. Still had 18 months to run. Went on to lose the 2014 GF.
Guess who else signed a contract extension in March 2014? Ross Lyon. Just lost the 2013 GF.

So in the last 6 seasons, 4 grand final losing coaches signed contract extensions before a ball was bounced in the next season, and the other one twice had signed a contract extension with 18 months left in the year they went on to lose the flag.

Interesting reading, but you could easily argue Longmire and Lyon were bad decisions so early too.

Won't argue that, if he's there longer than he likely will be....

But if he chose to put 20 games into say Broadbent as opposed to say Bonner, we'd have Don Pyke with any number of kids you wanna mention.

I'm pretty sure the right coach would happily take the Port list compared to the typical coaching vacancies.... The list isn't the big problem, that's quite uniqie with Port.

That I don’t know sorry but my sense was for picks
I suppose if a few guys are traded (not our very top tier players but those mentioned ie greenwood, keath etc), whilst it would be short term pain, if we ended up with a few extra 2nd rounders to go with the ones we currently have, it may allow us to trade up with clubs needing points - maybe - somehow we could end up with the carlton 1st - pick 2-4 and a couple of other 1st rounders - maybe to target a Gould and a Taheny for example - that way, 3 very highly rated young lads come in to supplement the youngsters we already have. If the club can just do the right thing and retire a few of the veterans, there might be 3-4 spots open up in the senior team for the younger brigade next year

How about not resorting to childish abuse?

Than maybe the quality of discussion wouldn't resort to a typical s**t show.

There was zero reason to extend in January. Just because I'm a Port fan you don't need to resort to abuse.

Last time I checked this is OUR board.

And yes, you have played in one final since 2014 and somehow lost it to West Coast on your home deck. Could not have scripted it better.

Actually it is Keith Thomas who refers to himself as the Norwood flog.

Can we expect some more circus moves for their game day experience to get the crowds in?

Seriously, I'm not sure about the rest of you but I go to the footy to watch the game and win the game, the rest is for amusement of kids and for those who are intellectually challenged. If you want to go see sideshows then go to a circus or the royal show.
