I don't get the Todd Marshall hype
Went to Port v North with my Dad who is a Port supporter

Watching at the game what I noticed is that Marshall didn’t seem to put himself in the right position

They would make a play from defence and be forced into a kick down the line towards half forward and Marshall...wasn’t there. He was off somewhere else the ball was never going to go. Port had no one there to compete so it was turned over.

Kept happening all game

As good as he is with the ball, he doesn’t put himself in a position to get it often enough

One other thing I noticed was when Ollie’s man took a mark ahead of him at centre half forward.

Ollie didn’t man the mark properly, wafted at the North player who strolled past and laced out a teammate

No attention to detail

I saw him being dazed, but was he unconscious at all after the knee to the back of head?
Stayed down quite a while, got up holding his head then back down on his haunches. Port medical staff didn't even go to him

Usually the key signs to look for are loss of consciousness or unsteady gait. Sometimes a knock to the head can leave you “feeling winded” like a heavy tackle or bump to abdo/chest, but you can still play out the game fine.

The second knock definitely made him look concussed with the blank stare like “who am I? What am I doing here?”

Port's biggest problem in developing players is educating them.

I've noticed that Wines and Rockliff seem to struggle when they're playing together in the same side.

Rockliff was in scintillating form early in the season, but once Wines returned he's gone back to being largely ineffective. Both players are pretty much carbon copies of each other, both are inside accumulators that are very one dimensional and can only perform at a top level playing when they're playing on the ball.

I'd actually question whether Port can continue to play both players in the same side.

Back when Port recruited Rockliff I was curious as to whether Port had once again thrown money at a name rather than a need. Now that we're 18 months down the track I think we have our answer that Port threw money at Rockliff for the publicity rather than him fulfilling a need.

Port have been warned in the past by the AFL regarding their poor concussion protocols, but let's watch the AFL ignore this once again.

I can remember that Friday night game against Hawthorn back in 2016 where Hartlett was badly concussed and they took him off for about 2 minutes and just sent him back on because they were trying to win.

At half time (I think it was Cameron Ling) tried to interview Hartlett as they were coming off the ground. He was slurring his words and nothing he was saying made any sense at all. If it was obvious to people at home that a player who is speaking like that five minutes after being knocked out was concussed then the doctor on the bench would have clearly known.

Just saw this on the Port board

"Wines just jogs around like a fat kid does at lunch time"

Fun times over on the Port board

My favourite comment was about Ken

“Only another two and a half years to go” :D
Imagine if they win a Final or two in the last year of his contract.

Really hope that happens.

For all the hype over Port's youngsters (and they do look very good), will they actually live up to expectation? Wines, Wingard, Butcher and SPP all looked like world-beaters early on (well, Butcher for about 3 games anyway) and they have all regressed since hitting their peaks early. Seems like Hinkley can't really develop players, he reminds me of Brad Scott.

I’ve been saying the same thing since draft night. These kids will dominate while they are still playing as raw talented kids. Ports have a long history of not developing their kids

I think you're interpreting it too literally. Andrew Denton ran with his program/chat show "Enough Rope" for years

"Enough Rope with Andrew Denton (often shortened to Enough Rope) is a television interview show originally broadcast on ABC1 in Australia. The title of the show came from the phrase "give someone enough rope and they'll hang themselves".

The chase for skase
