Apparently from Ken’s presser

“I felt at the end there was one team trying to win and one team trying to defend. We were the ones trying to get the win, but we couldn't get it done.”

So he’s criticizing GWS for trying to defend a one point lead in the final two minutes? What would you have done Ken?

The guy seriously has no clue

Tredders saying he didn't like Kennys contract extension at the time, funny he didnt say that at the time.
Heard that . He really doesn’t like Hinkley does he. I wouldn’t be surprised if he started the “sack Hinkley “ thread on the pear board . At least Ginever is a bit more impartial.

People said the same about an injury-hit Essendon and then Carlton. Save yourself the disappointment, we won't win, the Saints sacked Richo at the right time.
If we sack Pyke and temporarily appoint Campo (again) will that give us enough of a spike to stay in the 8?

I would hope the players deliberately tank so we cop 100 point floggings then publicly come out and say Campo's coaching was the reason

27k on a completely dry Saturday night is telling

I wonder how many years it will take before sub 25k crowds become the norm for them?

The novelty has clearly started to wear off Adelaide Oval and their crowds are down 9k from 2014.

I don't think it will get back to 12k-14k like it was during the tarp years, but I think it will continue to drop over the next five years and we'll see very few 40k crowds for them (outside of Showdowns) and more sub 30k crowds.

Interesting that they bring up Pyke. Fortunately for us, he's not actually the problem, unlike Hinkley.
Not sure how you can rule out pyke as the problem?

So Hinkley is whinging about when Clurey didn’t cross the line for a point, the umpire called a point and it was reversed. They then had a stoppage where they conceded a goal.

Two things, why didnt Clurey cross the line, second he should have been called to holding the ball seeing he made no attempt to get rid of the ball and it was still in play. Plus even then if it was a ball up the stoppage would have occurred anyway.

Did you see it?
He couldn’t take it over without the risk of being penalised as he wasn’t under direct pressure.
He did dispose of it, he kicked it.
The goal umpire just stuffed up he made the decision it had crossed the line by calling it a point then decided he wasn’t sure and a review occurred.

Anyone want to put some money on Don Pyke and Ken Kinkley getting sacked on the same day?

Joint press conference?

We are a gutless club, they will fire Pyke if we lose to St Kilda.

Only saw the review can’t remember him kicking it but if it hurt Port it was a good decision

Yes. It was a beautiful thing. I just wish the cameras had panned to the faces in the crowd. I do enjoy a good show of inbred frothing at the mouth and swearing and eyes-rolled-back-in-the-head indignant screechy whinging.... you know, the usual Port crowd carry on. LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL

That's fair. I don't think you go and decide you want to sack a coach because he refuses to tag the opposition's best mid though.
Oh there would be plenty more but issues like that show there are problems from his end.

I'm open to hearing a case on why he deserves to be sacked.

I’m firmly in the keep Pyke camp but sack the rest with a massive clean out.

However, a strong leader gets what they want. They have the loudest voice, they stand up for what their core beliefs are, they gain positive attention by making strong choices in what is part of their team.

If the rumors are true and Pyke didn’t want any or some of the the current assistant coaches and just accepted them without putting up a fight, that isn’t showing strong leadership. That’s being a submissive leader and authority would be brought into question. They players then know he isn’t a strong leader, he isn’t the alpha dog in the room and they don’t have to listen to him when things get tough.

By not having the courage to fight back over the appointments had shown he won’t stand up and lead when things get tough. The chain of command is broken.

We need an alpha dog leader. Blight was an alpha dog. Graham Cornes was an alpha dog. Pyke needs to stand up right now and demand positive changes are made to his team or he should be sacked with the rest of them.

I’m certainly not keeping the others around him either.
But I think saying he doesn’t get the things he wants is a cop out.
If you were that unhappy at not getting what you want surely you resign?

It's easy for us to sit here and suggest that if as a head coach you demand change of the football staff around you but don't get it you just up and quit, but realistically what does that achieve. Put yourself in that position. You would know inside that you haven't seen what you are actually capable of as a head coach. It would also be the end of your AFL coaching career. No other club would give you a job. So Pyke would be looking at it as just another challenge. But in reality no philosophy or game plan is going to overcome what he has to currently deal with.

Well then if he’s been hamstrung he hasn’t seen what he’s actually capable of as a head coach either?

Correct, but he knows he has a long term contract. So he will look for change around him over a number of years to get to where he wants to go. It's then on the club to deliver. With how this year is looking like playing out and how the pressure will ramp up on him, it will likely be make or break next year and his demands this off-season should be a hell of a lot stronger. If the club fails to deliver what he wants or needs he will know he did all he could with what he had and the club failed him.
