Are the players that stand out have not returned the investment of games invested in to them. All have shown glimpses of real quality ( in Bruce's case strong seasons ) but ultimately, for a varitey of reasons have pulled up short. Of that list I am only confident that the club would keep Steele long term.

Ive left Ross off as I believe he will come good again when he gets more support around him. Also a B'n'F winner and AA squad of 40 member so has strong credentials to fall back on.

Hope stuv not thinking the same way as you. Gresham not there yet. Steele ok. Billings- spare me please. Is Clarke on our list still. Hannabery just started vfl. When we were winning steven, Lonnie geary all in. Not sure your thoughts are yum

Thanks for your input Wayne. Fair bit of pie in the sky stuff from me. But I’ll bite:
Steven wanted to go last year so not sure what your response means?
Steele has proven he can play a good negating role. Went head to head with Cripps last week and broke even.
Gresham’s in his fourth season and tracking along well.
Agree Billings needs a rocket but we know the potential is there. Needs a coach who will tap into his talent.
Clark’s been on the list for 1.5 years and is currently dominating in the VFL.
Hannebery on track to return soon and is 3 time AA premiership player.
If that midfield didn’t please you then i don’t what would

Think you forgot about Jade Gresham mate.

I agree though, that's exactly what we should be looking for. Best case for us would be to get a B grade FA, a potential A grader looking for more opportunity on the cheap and then nail pick 7 with a quality mid.

True, he was a mid in the TAC. Totally agree. We should get a decent pick and Cripps, Mc Crae, Bont etc are all picks around the range of where we are projecting as far as picks go. One gun kid that hits the ground running can change the whole psyche of a team, Jayden Stephenson really switched momentum, same with Bont and way back Joel Selwood.

I'm sure every player listed above would be better if we added Cogs (FA) and Cunnington (Pick 8)

We have to get one if we keep trying and improving. Sound rubbish but it might happen. We are St Kilda lets have some optimism.

Exactly right with the improvement. Football clubs are all about perception more than reality. Melbourne looked on the up and got guys like Lever and May. We looked on the down and were rejected by Shiel. North looked like they were better than they were and attracted talent, Brisbane worked hard to draft well and attracted two guns in Charlie Cameron and Lauchie Neale.

No reason to think it's impossible, you just need one to want to set themselves up for life.

Probably. But we are talking fits and spurts vs best and fairest / top 40 league quality for a year.
Good point...I'd probably take Steele out of there though, projecting upwards imo, and will probably end up a better player than Ross long-term.

Steele has been a bit disappointing this year imo. I know he does a lot of good things, but for an inside mid he just doesn't win enough contested footy.

Gresh has been able to come in as his first year as a mid and average more contested touches. Steele is averaging 10 a game which just isn't good enough. Even Dunstan has elevated himself in that area and averages close to 13.

I can't understand why he hasn't improved in that area but if he's going to be a really good player he's going to need to get that closer to 15 or so a game

Isn't he negating the oppos best midfielder at stoppages? Essentially his job is to block that player rather than attempt to take possession, so lower CP's kind of make sence..

Last year playing the same roll he was getting big CP numbers but hasn’t gone on with it. He’s constantly around the ball so he has no excuse. Gresh spends a lot of time forward and has still managed to win the ball more.

Losing Stuv has put pressure on Ross and Steele who are easier to contain with out him.

In the second half of last year Steele had a 13CP game, two 14CP games and three 15CP games. Shattering that he hasn’t gone on with it, don’t think the BnF would’ve been close this year if he did.

I don't really buy that Steven being out should affect Steele's contested numbers. It's not like he's getting tagged and if anything not having Steven in there should mean he should win more in tight. And as I said Dunstan has really increased in that area.

I can understand Ross, as he gets a lot more attention and rely's on the footy being dished out to him.

I like the sound of Tom Green. No-nonsense contested pig, racks up big numbers, over 60% of them contested, and sends it forward with a big kick. Has done it consistently all year as well. Sounds like either of the Crouch brothers. Would be stoked with someone like him. And think of all the jokes we could make with his name.
