Pretty interested to see where the Brodie Smith stuff goes. Hes a great club person and it will be tough pill to swallow for a while. Most supporters understand where we are at though and he has high currency and probably wont be around for our next premiership tilt.

Not sure how you get him done trade wise though. You will have picks 17/18 and 21 which will will both slide back a few places after GC priority, Hawks father son and GWS academy player Tom Green. Of course you have next years first. Ah Chee will also cost probably a second.

Most Crows supporters realistically see Smith as a pick 8-12. All Australian player contracted for 2 more years. (Also for us Laird is top 10 pick - 2x All Australian and BnF jumper, still with 2 years on contract and younger than Smith).

I think you will work with someone to get a lower pick (GWS pick 11?) and use that. Much like Carlton did the leg work to upgrade their two early seconds, getting us a pick 12 for McGovern.

Anyway, interesting period ahead. And if you do land Smithers or Lair, you will have a beauty.

IF he is in the reserve's because he is not doing the team thing. I.e.: Not giving 100% of himself when asked. We can't afford to have him at the club.

The club are looking to create a culture of continuous improvement, learning from your mistakes. This is why Robinson is in the team week in and week out. He might not be as talented as Cutler, but he follows instructions and gives all he has, all the time.

That's possibly why they gave him a 2 year contract and not Cutler.

If more midfield depth is a big priority as mentioned by Fages, not sure why we would even give our first pick for Smith, let alone strive to get Adelaide a higher one. The fact that he is contracted may even work in our favour if Adelaide want to offload some of it to help address other list priorities.

I like cutler's good games and if he produced them consistently he would be in our best 22, unfortunately he doesn't and he is not, so the club has to look for blokes who will challenge the top 22 consistently

Not sure I’d be valuing a 28yo back flanker as worth something around pick 10. If he was 3 years younger, then sure.
Not to mention his injury history.
Laird I see as a good user quarterback accumulator in the mould of a Jake Lloyd who will probably take a chunk of possession off a Daniel Rich.
I’d rather the ball in Rich’s mitts.

Smith I reckon suits us more as someone with a bit of toe who can drift forward and can kick a long sausage.
Laird does accumulate cheap touches at times but unlike Lloyd and Caleb Daniel he reads the play very well and is good in a contest for his size. I'd take him over Smith any day, even if we take age and injury out of the equation. That said, I'd like to see us give Witherden more responsibility for driving our ball movement again before looking elsewhere.

Smith can play on the wing as well but I feel like he's more the icing on the cake than anything. Nice to have, not worth selling the farm for. He's completely anonymous at his worst.

He is a massive upgrade on witherdon . Witherdon can’t run out of sight on a dark night genuine plodder . I’d be throwing everything we can now to get smith or a laird type . We have players like Martin (32) Zorko (30) Robbo (30) Lyons 27 Neale 26 we need to strike why some of these guys are still at their peak and then have guys like luggage , Rayner , Bailey , Andrews etc become genuine superstars of the Comp .

Rather than smith i would throw the cash to Jeremy Cameron gws. 27 next year on a 4 or 5 year deal. See if cash motivates him. As the quote famously says show me the money. Would give an immense boast to the forward line. release the pressure off hips. It would be very tantalising jeremy and charlie show and may actually help hips perform better as he would get the second best defender. It could also release hips to a wing where, his athleticism and speed could add a whole new dimension to the lions side.

Don't have the assets for a trade, no way GWS would agree to anything we could produce (that we'd be willing to let go) though no harm in laying seeds to try and poach as a free agent next year. Though I still think we've got plenty of improvement to come from the players we have in our forward line and it was already the highest scoring of the season.

Cameron ain’t going anywhere.

I really want us to chase Jamie Elliot.

I will answer that with two great examples buddy left hawthorn for cash. Lions lost lynch to the bears, for cash. So cash talks no matter what you say. There are so many players who have left for money. I don’t care what it takes brown paper bag or not. It may , just may install the lions as red hot favourites if were to happen. Challenge to the lions , is do we have the balls to have a red hot go with a compelling cash offer. GO LIONS!!! Make Cameron ,look at the offer and say what the f...k !!!
