Arthur scargill "We aren't here to run capitalism better than the Tories'

Class hate is deepening in Britain not softening - the writings of Bojo suggest he has deep contempt for average britons

Anyway most of the world has moved on from the GFC. Thanks to the abysmal policies of the Tories and Libdems they are still in the trough.

all labour wanted to do is reverse that, Bojo seems to want to do half a job (and less if he can get away with it or the lurching right party nobbles him)

its just sound economics (which the rest of the world understands) not any particular label you can come up with Marxist etc

Doesnt the UK have very low unemployment rate compared to Europe ?

Despite how terribly they are handling Brexit ?

Watson said: “Does the Labour party in its current form actually want power? The ultimate betrayal of working-class people is not to take power when you can, and if you are a party that believes in power through elections, then that requires pragmatism, prioritisation, compromise and collaboration

Good question Tom!

Yep I left school in 1975. for mine if you were born 1959-60 and left school in 1975 you were the start of GenX = insecure employment

Baby boomers were born from 1946 till about 1964, many of them faced high unemployment rates, those born from the late 50's, they would have felt it from the early 1980's combined with 18/20% interest rates on housing loans.

But yet BB are really maligned, but was the early ones who got a free ride.

mate, it was 1975. I lived it. Our careers councillors were clueless. The change was so quick and dramatic

I should elaborate. At the beginning of our final school year, we got the “remember a career is for life. Be choosy” then it was” do college and ride the downturn out” finally. ‘It’s brutal, take anything you can get”. It was worse for those born early 1960s

Youth unemployment in 1980 where i lived was around 40/50%.

I actually know it as well, albeit a bit later.

And also my first mortgage was around the time of 18% interest rates.

Listening to Labour concession speeches all included the line.

I'm sorry we failed and to all the millions of people who need us."

People don't want to be dependent on government, they want to be self sufficient.

The undertone of Labour's message is to create the cycle of government dependancy.

Hike taxes of the middle class so life is tougher to succeed (We all know the rich can avoid taxes.)

Death duties on dying boomers so the younger generation can't benefit from the inheritance.

Got to love conservatives who ignore facts for convenience

Since the National Minimum Wage was introduced by a Labour government 20 years ago, it's boosted the wages of the lowest-paid - defying predictions it would lead to higher unemployment.

The conservatives are the ones who have kept it on hold for ages. But blame labour

they have death duties

Scargill was a fool who overplayed his hand. Since his era, the only time Labour came back to power was when they indeed tried to run capitalism better than the Tories. Gotta play to the electorate.

great quote though. Blair sucked murdochs dick but he didnt need to throat it

He did what he had to do to win elections. But for Iraq, he'd be looked at as a success. I don't think Labour need to go full New Labour again, but they probably need to take a step or two towards it. Also, they need a leader with charisma like Blair had, which Corbyn certainly didn't have.
