Jeez if Sumich is going to be public about Trew like that I think I've found my "surprised he wasn't drafted" player of 2020.

Not a bad option if we're going to have kids train with us with a view to drafting later. The overall aim there is to uncover another Sydney Stack.

Thats why he’s been a very good coach, he tells his players what they need to hear, not what they want to hear..

It's not going to be easy to find another kid that loves kebabs that much.

Did it cross your mind that he hasn’t delivered due to his mental state?

He was an absolute gun early days and things have gone downhill since, due to personal circumstances.

Yeah ice doesn't help footy.

Gun? Never. He's achieved nothing.

Brown as a late pick has achieved way more from his own hard work.

Others are Paul Ahern (North Melbourne), Flynn Appleby (Collingwood), Josh Begley (Essendon), Hamish Brayshaw (West Coast Eagles), Wylie Buzza (Port Adelaide), Hugh Dixon (Fremantle), Ben Crocker (Adelaide), Dylan Clarke (Essendon), Kyke Dunkley (Melbourne), Derek Eggmolesse-Smith (Richmond), Luke English (Richmond), Zac Foot (Sydney), Will Golds (Hawthorn), Billy Gowers (Western Bulldogs), Martin Gleeson (Essendon), Noah Gown (Essendon), Fergus Greene (Western Bulldogs), Mitch Hibberd (Essendon), Lachie Hosie (North Melbourne), Michael Knoll (Sydney Swans), Doulton Langlands (St Kilda), Brad Lynch (Western Bulldogs), Callum Moore (Carlton), Darren Minchington (Hawthorn), Tom Murphy (North Melbourne), Finbar O’Dwyer (Carlton), Mitch O’Neill (West Coast Eagles), Myles Poholke (Adelaide), Jarvis Pina (Fremantle), Sam Reid (GWS), Harry Reynolds (Carlton), Brady Rowles (Sydney), Matthew Scharenberg (Collingwood), Sam Skinner (Brisbane), Roarke Smith (Western Bulldogs), Zach Sproule (GWS), Ayce Taylor (Sydney), Corey Wagner (Melbourne), Matthew Walker (Hawthorn), and Mason Wood (North Melbourne).

The Ziebell is going to have a messy night 🤪

Campbell is the highest ranked pure midfielder on this list and the 4th best kid going around. Extraordinary that a Club that's played in 15 of the past 18 final series should be able to boogie on in and be gifted two of the best 5 kids in the Country. If we're for real - we'll bid on this kid and put an end to this nonsense

Because he was talked up as a certain superstar and he's struggled ever since. Massive bust.

McDonald might be better sure.

I'm suspect of all KPP to be honest.

Patton, Boyd, McCartin, and Schache were talked up as well. There are plenty of busts, but history suggests you need to snag one to win a flag.

So was Patton, Boyd, McCartin, and Schache. There are plenty of busts, but history suggests you need to snag one to win a flag.

When was the last one?

Don't say Boyd. Most overplayed ridiculous story ever.....

Been a fair while.......Franklin?

I'm always a bridesmaid.

I back your judgement and appreciate your insight into these kids. And I know there is a glaring hole at FF, but the way the game seems to be going is the most dangerous forwards are the medium ones who manage to not only kick 40 goals a year but rack up 20-25 possessions and set a few goals up along the way.

And the thing is, didn't we take Comben with out first pick last year?! I can't see why 12 months later we'd be considering it a bust when he was taking screamers over Taz last preseason. Obviously I'd imagine we'll take McDonald if he's available, but if Comben shows anything like what he did this preseason, next year, where would McDonalds (by round 4 on this board in this scenario) even play? Seems overkill to me and an incredible gamble with our best draft equity in years in what is essentially a "midfielders" game.

Best available at the pointy end, no ifs or buts. Needs come later. You simply must nail that pick. As an example, Longmire debuted as a 16yo, kicked a club record of 14 in a game against richmond and won a coleman kicking 98 pretty early in his career.......does that mean we dont take Carey if he came up in the next draft? Dont forget in that era, we also had other young key forwards. Peter Mann, Mark Stevens, Even Hewitt, Mark Hepburn a little earlier, not to mention Corey, Jase Mcartney started out as a forward at collingwood and played forward for us as well, even later on, even Leigh Brown kicked 6 from memory for us as a forward once Wayne departed.

Admittedly I keep on changing by the day as to whether I'd like the club to go with McDonald or Holland. You can confidently say they'll both be very, very good players.

What I will say in regards to Comben however is that I thought it was very interesting that Ben Armarfio made a point, an almost emphatic point of singling out Charlie as a player to watch for the future in his interview with slimeball Barrett last week. I think he referred to him as a competitive beast or something similar to that. Anyway I thought it was an interesting comment for the CEO to make about a kid who hasn't played a game yet. On reflection maybe it was an indication that the club's settled already on taking Holland and that we're confident with our current crop of KPFs and medium forwards. Also a very real possibility of picking up a Cox or Reid at 11 if that's the way we want to go.
To be honest, that's always been my view as to why the club was happy to move on BBB. We've seen that with rucks in the past, Hale make was for hamish, hamish for goldy etc.

"Acknowledging his rawness, he identified his ruck work as an area he believed he could further improve - and while it would be great to play for his father's favourite team North Melbourne, just getting drafted would be an honour."

18.6 h/o, 13.3 disp, 2.8 marks, 2.9 tackles,,,,those are good stats for a young ruckman....no brainer for a late pick.

Go through the best forwards in the game and also the forwards who have played in recent premierships. A majority of them are or a would have been first round picks.

Riewoldt - 1st round pick - multiple premiership player - Elite forward

Lynch - pre listed(would have gone first round)- multiple premiership player - Elite forward

Kennedy - 1st round pick - premiership player - Elite forward

Boyd - 1st round pick - premiership player

Roughead - 1st round pick - multiple premiership player - Elite forward

Franklin - 1st round pick multiple premiership player - Elite forward

Hawkins - F/S (would have gone first round)- multiple premiership player - Elite forward

Dixon - Pre listed (would have gone first round) - Elite forward

Cameron - Pre listed (would have gone first round)- Elite forward

Then you have the next generation of young talent who will go along way to making their club successful :

Hipwood
B. King
M. King
H. McKay
C. Curnow
T. Marshall
N. Blakey
A. Naughton

As I have said previously, it can be hit and miss picking a key forward. But a majority of sides that win flags or go deep into finals have invested high in a key forward.

As to picking the player for our draft, we can fit the most pressing role for us?

Is holland what we need? What role does he fit in our team? If holland comes in, never mind the injury, how does he compete with zurhaar and thomas? Remember, we still have ziebell and garner. Also stephenson will also be playing half forward at times even though he has been pencilled to become an inside midfielder with his dynamic abilities.

Phillips will add to our midfield rotation and can also be a small forward. At pick 11, now 15, we should be able to nab another decent midfielder. Our biggest dificiency is lack of pace in the middle as that could also sip into defense and attack.

All good points you make except that I don’t think anyone at North should be too concerned about a player coming straight into our midfield rotation. Hollands adds a different dimension and will end up in the middle for us (if drafted). He and LDU will be absolutely devastating together so it’s not really our half forwards he’ll be contending with when it matters and we do have a need for class midfielders. Great kick either side, good goal sense and potential to fill out into a genuine big bodied midfielder is way too much to pass up. Phillips strikes me as the sort of player North would usually pick up, he’s similar to Simpkin in the role that he’d play and will be great but not necessarily a match winner in the way that Hollands could be. All speculation of course, but I’d base our first pick on a player that can change our club. LDU is one but will need help. Good luck tagging North’s midfield out of a game once both LDU and Hollands are up and running. Simpkin, Cunners for a while and Jed to clear the way. It’ll be special.

I think you’re underrating Thilthorpe. His ceiling is as high as any draft choice. He’s certainly the most physically impossing. He’s up there in endurance. I’d wager he’s the best contested mark.

He could be like a more physical Goldy. What pick would you give up for that?

could become the next Grundy and be even more dangerous than he is up forward. Grundys aggression was a real highlight in his draft year. Thilthorpe busts packs open and tackles in a not too dissimilar way.

The way I look at it, he has as much upside with his body as anyone. DGB, McDonald, and even JUH will be adding weight to their frames. This could hurt them athletically. Thilthorpe is basically at or near his ultimate playing weight, but he will get much stronger, like the other guys. Once he’s comfortable with his body, fit and healthy, combined with that aggression you described, he’s going to be quite the player imo.

I think North should invest heavily in its midfield in the first round bringing in classy, dynamic and fast players. Then sort out it’s forward and ruck situation. On that basis my ideal draft haul would be:

2. Hollands (or if he’s gone, Phillips (though I’d be shattered not to land EH).
11. Perkins (or if gone, McRae - or if gone, Bruhn).
30. Jake Bowey
37. Neale

Once the midfield is settled with a good mix of class to compliment the grunt we always manage to somehow accumulate, we can focus on bringing in another key forward (assuming Larkey struggles and Comben doesn’t live up to the hype). This and next years draft could set us up for the next 10 years.
