The "how many times do I need to say it bullshit"?

Opine, it's the third time I've posted it and you've continually ignored it in favour of trying to needle me about being offended by you.

You've seemingly leapt straight to our recruiters failing, and if not because you've already decided they're not good at their jobs then I don't know what could lead you to that assumption.

Especially given it is clear that Papley has turned down multiple clubs to stay in Sydney, which wouldn't suggest incompetence from our end but inevitability from his. I mean...the season is still running and we're in a condensed fixture block, how much time do you reckon Papley has had to sit down with our recruiting staff for a chat about what we can offer?

The more you think about it, the more likely it is that Sydney have simply convinced him to stay.
I don't doubt that Sydney has done a good job of convincing him to stay. My question is whether CFC did a good enough job of convincing him not to.

Why ask question when no one has clear answer to? I doubt you find any solace in this board about why Papley decide to stay, cause no one knows.

The kid is an absolute freakish talent so if Collingwood are willing to move him on I’d be extremely concerned about his professionalism/attitude.

Yep exactly. And Collingwood's forward line has struggled this year and they are pushing for a flag yet Stephenson still on the outer.

If he's gettable, that sets off alarm bells. Just from watching him play you can kind of tell he's not the hardest worker/defensive minded/team player. He's great at bobbing up and kicking a few goals but that's just about all he does. Doesn't suit Teague's mantra of players who train and work hard, play their role for the team, crack in hard at the contest etc.

We may know soon, one of us (from memory Elmer Judd) works with Papleys girlfriend and he may be able to shed light what happened

You're assuming I wanted the question answered, I wanted the question planted, He didn't come; that's all that needs knowing; for now.

next year. He will be RFA if he doesnt extend his deal.
We could try convince GWS to give us Kelly this year with 2x1st rd picks instead of risking Free agency next year where they wont be able to match.

In turn they will most likely have the cash to sign Williams.

I don’t think that’s true ... Kelly’s salary is about being able to retain Cameron, Hopper, Taranto, Green etc

They are probably OK losing Zac Williams given some clubs will throw a lot more than his value at him

Sometimes you don't get the opportunity to.

As you've pointed out, Papley was keen on us last year. That was coming off a really poor first half of the year, and we bounced back and showed we could be good (inconsistently). Presumably we convinced Papley he'd be a factor in us taking the step towards finals.

As of the second last round, we were a half chance of making finals even without him. So it certainly seems to me that adding a premium small forward to our side for the full 17 rounds this year would possibly have tipped us over the edge (especially with so many close games).

Factor all that in, and it's hard to imagine that we'd no longer be an attractive destination for him if he wanted to move to Victoria.

And furthermore, even if we'd somehow screwed up our pitch, if he was genuinely wanting to come to Victoria, you've got Melbourne and Essendon in a similar position to us who were keen, and WB who are in the 8 and have stated publicly their desire for a small forward. So not only have we not convinced him, neither have two other "almost finalists" and one "finals threat". NM would probably roll out the red carpet and a fat contract for him, Hawthorn would likely have some interest too.

So all the evidence seems to point towards it not being about other clubs convincing him of anything, simply him deciding to stay where he is. And given we're still in-season, and clubs are bouncing between different hubs and being kept separate from as many external personnel as possible, I think it's very unlikely we'd have had any chance to sit down with him and make a considered pitch anyway.

Yes, with the debate you and Blue Balls flooding these past few pages.

Here you can plant the question here: membership@carltonfc.com.au

"Dear Cain,

I would like to understand how a player like Papley who wanted to be at Carlton last trade period has decided to stay from this week's media outlet. Is the recruitment department doing enough? Could you please give me an answer it be greatly appreciated.

From yours truly.

Opine."

I can't say that I'm disappointed at Paps not wanting to join the Blues. But it's necessary to ask why? was our newly formed crack recruiting committee unimpressive in its pitch? I'll have to ponder this for a little while. I'll be back.

I don't doubt that Sydney has done a good job of convincing him to stay. My question is whether CFC did a good enough job of convincing him not to.

So what have I missed for the last 1000 posts?

Are 600 of still an argument about Papley? But what if it's 2 firsts? Is he worth 2? But Shiel went 2x 1st with 2md coming back etc.

Anything interesting happen?

Zac Fisher should be brought on the trade table, thats pretty much the new thing around here.

Sydney would be up there when it comes to best youth in the competition, even if you take out Heeney who is 24.

Florent
Blakey
Hayward
Rowbottom
Dawson
McCartin
McInerney
Stephens
Wicks

There are gaps for sure, but they have plenty to work with. And they're certainly well ahead of North IMO.

Absolutely yes, but he's not a small forward.
Always seen Stephenson eventually becoming a damaging goalkicking winger...

Not making any excuses for our season and at best, I'd rate it a 5/10 and feel it may have been closer to a 7/10 had we been a little more resolute.

We have to remember though that for one reason or another, we had next to no input from CCurnow, Marchbank, Newman, Dow, Kreuzer, Kemp JSilvagni and Stocker. It was also the first year back from a long layoffs for Docherty and Williamson.
Just trying to keep some things in perspective, given some obvious disappointment after yesterday game.

I put this year to bed a couple of weeks ago and looking forward to the pre-season already....now just to nail Wiiliams and.....

Not ready for Simmo to retire. If we could only keep one of Betts or Simmo I would chose simmo. Even if we plonked him in a FP in Eddie's role until someone pushs him out.

Yes he's getting on but he's still moving more nimbly than Eddie.

Unless this is Simmos choice... then I wish him all the best.

Been a bloody legend of this club.
