Yeah this talk of Jack going to North on a 3 year contract and us getting a token pick makes no sense. He is a contracted player who I would still have in our best 22 and North are keen enough to offer a 3 year deal but only a token pick?

If Jack is to go it is on our terms.

What is a token pick? To me its a 4th+ rounder but some may think 3rd rounder?

That's an interesting analogy DD. Since you've raised it, I'll advance it for you. The club dresses itself up, makes itself attractive to a class of supporters; so they jump into a money first union with the club. Then, after that class of supporters have put out, the club denies its commitment to its previous messaging. Whose conduct more closely resembles adultery; mine or the clubs?

I wouldn't take a 3rd rounder for Jack considering he is contracted - in 2019 from round 15 to 22 he didn't go below 15 touches and averaged over 5 marks a game, he could have had 4 goals against the Tigers in round 1 if a couple advantages hadn't been paid. Why would we let him go?

A token pick is a pick that you basically won't use.

Definitely could be, Macca. I think he could be worth that mid-2nd rounder if a club were desperate, which North are.

Looking at the landscape of the trade period last year - 3rd talls and KPFs went fairly cheaply. Patton for a 2020 4th round (injuries and needed to get rid of salary so understandable), Jenkins for basically 37, and Bruce for 32+51. So I do think Jack can between 30-40 and reason being is his versatility to play numerous positions unlike the 3 above. If he goes, I’d say a good result if we net that.

Here's the thing with our players and I've noticed this over some period of time now; Opposing posters de-value them.

Happens all the time. Just watch, yet when it comes to clubs doing the trades, we often get more than most expect; Henderson, Yarran, Menzel, Bell.
Then look at GWS players and the way they rate let's say Caldwell and Hately this year. Once you notice it, it's hard not to see it.

Anyway, JSilvagni will reel in a ~40 odd and maybe even higher.

Oh trust me Harks, I’ve seen it for years. I think he will reel in that too. Who thought Tom Bell would get us what he did from opposing supporter bases? No one. Even from within our own. This game happens year in and out with over valuing and under valuing a player. We see players with some bias, positively or negatively, sometimes as per what is happening with Jack atm. Same with what is now probably is going to happen with Ben Brown and North supporters or the Daniher Saga. As long as it’s a positive outlay for my club and improves us further, I’ll be happy.

Follow on effect could be no longer drafting any 'project' players that are likely to take 4+ years to develop...except maybe a ruck. Can't really afford to carry too many of these.

Strength & Conditioning / Medical also very important...smaller pool of players on the list so if you cop a bunch of injuries there's not as many to choose from and not as much depth. Teams who can have their best 22 on the park for longer will benefit more.

We've recruited talented but injury prone players in recent years like Marchbank but that probably needs to end.

I was hoping we could get Walsh (the ruck) in the draft but with a smaller list that looks less likely.
The positive is it also makes it harder for other teams to draft Walsh as a trainee ruck, so maybe we can get him as a rookie?

My only reasoning is that he is physically developed. May need someone developed in reserve, rather than a kid. If we can find another player with a couple of years in the system who won't cost much, then I'm fine with that too.

Sam Skinner from Brisbane should be cheap...

Given our list changes, we're currently sitting at 35/4/1
This year we were at 39/6/1

So Williams puts us at capacity on senior list. Not sure why we rushed to upgrade Gibbons.

Would look to move Betts, Macreadie and Polson to rookie list (though Macreadie a risk I guess), and delist Moore which opens up 3 senior spots for the draft.

That seems about right. Anyone else we add would need a player moved on, Graham/Narkle for Kennedy is straightforward, then potentially a call on Jack, LOB, Dow depending on Saad and/or other targets.
