I think Gibbo could stay one more year on the rookie list.

The obvious reason might be that his upgrade cancels out one of the required draft picks we need to use
iirc players who were mature age rookies get two, whilst young rookies like cottrell and honey get 3

I wouldn't take a 3rd rounder for Jack considering he is contracted - in 2019 from round 15 to 22 he didn't go below 15 touches and averaged over 5 marks a game, he could have had 4 goals against the Tigers in round 1 if a couple advantages hadn't been paid. Why would we let him go?

A token pick is a pick that you basically won't use.
I wouldn’t be letting him go anywhere, people are complaining we don’t have enough players with hardness and heart so why would we want to lose one that does, if we continue with the high press, bomb to the hot spot forward structure then Jack is way better suited to that than McGovern who is a lead up low pressure player, he’s contracted end of story go screw a goose North.

At least, I really struggle to see why we need to cut it at all,the AFL had close to $200m in cash at the end of the 2019 FY and shaving a few low income players of the list won't add up to that much.
I agree Macca, also if you look at the players used list there are a lot of clubs that used between 38-40 players this year and from memory that’s pretty standard.

I'd love a 1st round pick for him. Reality is, he probably wouldn't be considered in our best 22 come 2021.

If the tables were turned and we were after a player from another club who hasn't found his position after 5 years in the system and isn't a clear best 22 player, do you think we should be giving up a pick in the top 30 for them? We would be over on the other teams board saying 4th rounder at best.

I'd love him to stay. But fact is, if he decides to go, we would be getting anything decent for him.

I guess it's how you look at things.
He's a 22yo 194cm player, who has played 63 games. He's versatile playing forward, back, inside mid and can play a tagging roll. He's also above average for marks and tackles inside 50. He plays with passion, he's fearless and has good skills and decision making.

He's contacted so I think a 2nd and 4th with a 3rd coming back make sense to me.

Personally I would keep him and play up forward with McKay and Curnow. I would trade McGovern for whatever we can get.

Get what you're saying. If he leaves it's because he wants to. Can't see Gov putting his hand up to leave.

A 4th imo is as good as we get for SOS unfortunately

I feel like Amos will probably fight tooth and nails to keep Polson on the list.

Go to 14:45 and have a listen. Be interesting to see how this plays out.

All I heard out of that is that the defensive group put in the same kind of investment you'd expect for someone fresh to the line-up. Positive talk along with that, but there's a reason why he's not been re-contracted yet.

There's going to be some interesting DFA replacements out there. So far, Tom Murphy is one I'd be looking at.

That quarters won ladder is also interesting, we sit equal forth with 39, only Brisbane with 40 and Geelong and Port with 42 are above us. Just goes to show how costly those lapses were. A few recruits, some organic growth within and a fit Marchy and Charlie next year should see us rocket 🚀 into the 8!!

Shaun Higgins perhaps on the way out at North.
I would quite happily forgoe Murph’s 1 year deal and offer Higgins 2.
You can’t do that to a former captain and champion of our club no matter how much he has declined.

This is the guy that turned down Brisbane to give us hope at a low point in club history.

Finally someone talking sense!

Try top 4.
How about we stop kicking it all over the shop and hit some ****ing targets!
An extra 10 tackles a game would seal the deal.

If i was list manager at Carlton and had to trade out 1 of Silvagni or McGovern

I would keep the guy that trains the harder
Gives his best
Works the hardest on the ground

Looking at the above comparison , I really cannot see how you could possibly keep McGovern over Silvagni

I've said it for a few years now but I still believe Salvagni is going to be a key part of our team. Footy smarts, clean and plays with heart

We should get serious re. Graham and offer the kids another 50k per year and get him over the line, then focus on someone like Saad to replace Simmo.
Graham to push out Ed, who pushes out Kennedy.
Wines or Merrett either this year or next to push out Murphy.
The players are there and available, go get em' Austin!

I don't like the fact that I like you so much.

Robbo’s claim was that he can handle a tag, against Sydney in Rd17 he got a hard tag and was kept to 15 touches and did not handle it well at all, he might have run with players on him but he has not had hard tags, like Cripps gets every week, which was my point.

I think you’re being a little dismissive of one of the best mids in the game, I’ll take your word that he got a hard tag in R17 and struggled, players don’t dominate every week.
