I agree with that
everyone seems to emulate what the premier did the year before
I'd rather be the thing that everyone is trying to emulate

We are doing that a bit, with varied success:

# We keep players forward of the ball but that means we rarely rebound the ball
# We defend in a more one on one style rather than zone but that means we are vulnerable to mismatches and don’t have significant intercept marking opportunities or rebound from inside our own 50
# Our midfield doesn’t rotate enough and relies on contested ball, which we frequently win however, players get tired/tagged and speed off the contest is limited.

We do things differently, not always successfully. All these negatives have logical solutions.

He criticises our club for what he say is "panic buying" for offering up $900k over 5 yrs for Williams, who he uses a Jack Dyer term "he's a good ordinary player". He said that sort of money is what elite players only or AA players get, and Williams is certainly not elite. Has a crack at who was responsible for this "dumbfounded" decision, saying it could cause trouble with other players in the team. I tend to agree about the amount offered, and in some respects the article itself. (Can't download article cause it's behind pay wall.) Maybe someone who knows how can try?

Don't worry too much about the terms of the contract. He's a perfect fit for us and adds what we're lacking.

Trust me, we're not panic buying here and he's better than a good ordinary player.

He's got pace and he's an elite kick. Don't worry about what the stats say when they're suggesting his disposal efficiency is average. He goes for the harder kicks which is why his DE lower than it should be.

We've got an elite player on our hands. Get excited.

FYI, the media were saying the same thing about Martin last year. He's certainly shown his worth.

Before any of this reached the media, there were posts from ITK posters who said that our offer was lower than any other clubs and we weren't going to budge. I don't think Robbo necessarily has incorrect information in that other clubs were shocked at the amount his management asked for, just that he's come to the wrong conclusion that we must have beaten that figure to get him to nominate us

I doubt the $900k figure is for more than the first year of his contract, front-loaded because we have extra cap space.

Robbo is just obfuscating that element in order to say "hur dur 900k times 5 is $4.5 mill!"

If archaic is a full frontal assault on what does not work then I am archaic. Proactive means change not rationalising status quo. Weak assistant coaches, change them out. Veterans who are past it-out. Players that are unfit don't run both ways, and tackle-dropped. In your world cultures grow in labs. In mine culture "is" by living standards from day one. Carlton has talent if it doesn't fix the other stuff, it will not matter
