It sounds like zac williams might be on a wing, so do we still need a running half back? im not so 100% sold on saad, is he an upgrade on williamson? Saad has speed but how is one on one defending?
For sure. We have little run off half back as it is and Saad provides good run and a good long kick. Saad has finished top 3 in the scums BandF the last 3 years so he is a long way ahead of Willo and Newman. We have just had Simmo depart and I’d really like to get SPS out of the back 6, I’d also like to see Willo on the wing.

So I’d love for us to get Saad, or Laird for that matter.

Phillips would be a great get. Played out of position this year but last year's form as a winger was very good. Seems like a good person, too.

Not a great kick, but I've always liked him as a footballer. Good outside player, runs all day, gets involved in scoring chains.

Have also mentioned his brother previously. Doesn't get much of a look in at St Kilda, but I am a fan of his game. Like Tom is a very good runner and not a contested player, but unlike his brother generally uses the ball very well.

Very happy to look at either.

Newman Jones Plowman
Docherty Weitering Saad
Walsh Cripps Williamson
SPS Curnow Martin
TDK McKay Betts
Pittonet Williams Setterfield
Gibbons Ed Fisher Murphy

Here is how I see our set up with Saad and Williams.

Saad to push Williamson to the wing.
Newman coming back, will free up SPS to play a high HF.
Williams I think will be used as an inside mids to add speed out of the clearance.
I thought it was reported on here today that Saad had already recommitted to * ?

I understand the appeal for Taranto, but what's happened to the highly-touted GWS mids? They can't kick goals.
I wanted Coniglio last year because I saw him as a genuine goal-kicking mid but -

Coniglio - 5/16, Hopper - 1/17, Caldwell - 1/9, Hately - 0/6, Green - 1/6, Ward 3/7, Kelly 5/14 so Total Midfield = 18 goals from 8 players over 75 games.
What a terrible outcome for this highly lauded midfield collective.

Our little Walsh kicked more than for any of these players named, with 8 goals. Cripps kicked 7 and 45 misses. What are they doing over there?
Imo they have the worst head coach of all time excluding interims.

fair few left gws as well....which of those are playing good footy in their respective teams? steel, treloar....others?

Clearly something isn't right, but I'm not sure they know what it is.
Head scratcher that they're still happy with the coach and keen to give him more years.

Adams is going very well and Setterfield is looking at taking off.
I'ts just a little odd to me that out of nowhere, their mids can't kick a goal.

If we are looking o ad to our repertoire of goal kicking mediums we should be looking at value for money. I know Bayley Fritsch comes from an unfashionable club like Melbourne but he knows how to apply scoreboard pressure as a half forward. Kicked an inaccurate 22 goals 24 points and finished equal 8th in scoring shots this year. Unlike Papley will come a lot cheaper as is uncontracted. Will able to free up Martin to play more midfield minutes. When you view the stats very few mids have had scoreboard impact this year.

Also like the look of Jayden hunt who is also uncontracted. Has kicked 10 goals 2, many from long range in his 6 games

We need to start thinking outside the square rather than the usual suspects.

Given our excess of tall forwards could we give Charlie the opportunity to play in spurts as an on baller. It would alleviate the need to chase ourselves another expensive inside bull. Adding Viney will only add to our kicking woes.

Really against Viney or any other inside or slowish mid. We have Cripps Ed Setterfield and Kennedy as backup. If Setters takes another step next year we really have that spot covered and just need speed skill and kicking.

With Kreuzer retiring and TDK looking like the perfect fwd/ruck I think we should go for Preuss. I think Pittonet has had a good season but think Preuss could be much better.
