Looking like we'll have access to pick 5-6 this year.

Bundle it with something for Papley? Pick the dynamic HBF?
definitely dont get papley. Cunningham and fisher are more than good enough. Draft a key defender or a midfielder with pace, although i think dow and kemp will be good enough midfielders so id probably say just go for a defender

If we're going to bundle pick 5-6 with something, we might be better off trying to move up the draft board to secure Denver Grainger-Barras.

We still need a long term replacement for Jones. Would prefer to round off our spine with elite talent than overpay for a small forward, especially after the performance Fisher put on for us today.

Also, Owies with another 3 goals in the reserves. He's developing nicely too :)

Thoughts on Marchbank playing 2nd KPD? I know he’s more suited to the 3rd tall but he has the body to play KPD and has done so to good effect in the past. Think this is the best position for the team as otherwise we are to tall

I really liked what teague said today about fish and wanting him to play small fw and if good enough can think about playing midfield in the future.
That is why cunners doesn’t play midfield not enough endurance same for stocker.
Not gifted midfield roles.
If you want to play midfield at Carlton you better be good enough. Looks like standards are being set. This made me feel happy our coach won’t please players in the fear of them leaving. This in turn helps development of players as talented as fish is he is being told to find the next level to play midfield.
Simmo won’t get another contract if list sizes are cut and sadly neither will betts

Yup this is what will happen with H mac as our third tall and hopefully bsos as backup

You might have a gripe with the journalist...my post is based on his article, which basically made me come to the conclusion SoS towed the line on trade targets, so blame others for not recruiting butler

I saw what you got from the article, I agree and think it was obvious SOS towed the line regarding Betts, but nothing in the article and nothing at the time made me think SOS wasn’t keen on Papley and wanted Butler.

He will never be a KPD

Cuningham and Fisher have a long way to go to get to the class of Papley. Adding Papley to Betts and Fisher will make us hard to handle for opposition backs.

Fisher needs to play forward more often than not now. Cuningham needs to just get better.

Haven’t really been following the prospects for this year, but I think we’d be happy to cherry-pick the best available key defender in this years draft pool if we can’t secure Papley.

I’m still convinced we need a quality small forward though. Betts will be gone by the end of next year and both Martin and Fisher spend as much time in the midfield, or at least that should be the plan. Gibbons is a career role player, Cuningham is still enigmatic. Pick 5-6 is about Papley’s value.

I think we should also be getting into Fischer McAsey’s ear and seeing if we can get him over the following year.

Never said they were papley but i think they are more than enough. Fair comment though i understand your point

We’ve played marchy as the third and Plow as the lockdown med-small on quite a Few occasions. It wasn’t terrible.........

Provided we have Doc and Willo to provide the drive and run from defence

Well WC seemed to be a tall backline today Richmond don't play very small either

I hadn't warmed to the idea of Zac Williams even though I love him as a player, but after the last few weeks its abundantly clear we need some dash off half back. A Chris Yarran type would be a game changer for our team.

Zac Williams, Witherden and an honest mid with some burst about him. Hoping Dow and Kemp come on, good to see Dow looks seriously strong in the pics of him this year.

As for forward options, really hope we'd be asking the question about Dylan Williams at Port. Kid was an absolute freak through juniors, was considered possibly more talented than Rowell in his draft year, but injuries plagued him. He's one of those players who's very hot and cold, but every time he gets the ball just results in goals somehow. Played half back a bit, half forward and deep forward and was a match winner all through the finals series the year prior to his draft. Serious impact player but no idea what he's up to these days or how hes progressing at port. Wouldn't think he'd get a game over Rozee, Gray or Butters atm though

wierd sort of player because he's actually a decent size, but I remember watching him one game and the blokes just got 'It' factor. Could be similar to what we've heard about Honey so far

Super talented medium forward with xfactor had some injuries draft year which pushed him back down the order a fair bit...
Big fan...

He's a freak thats for sure. Not sure if he'd bring the tackling and pressure we need but if he's kicking big goals and can lay a few tackles per game you can put a few more pressure forward in the mix and it becomes a deadly arrangement having the 3 talls, an xfactor player like him and a couple high intensity pressure players who arent relied on to kick lots of goals.
Yeah the defensive side of his game along with more consistency were the only two knocks on his overall game... Only averaged one tackle as a forward so they played him off wing and midfield where he averaged ‘two per game’ to help improve and develop that part of his game... If he can really improve that pressure & tackling part of his game it would take his game up another level.. Personally he reminded me of a young Dan Menzel before the knees, oozes class...

I’d play him as a go-to marking winger on a small ground; or at Docklands. Otherwise HBF/BP
