And yet that weasel Chapman rolls himself out at the end of it to let everyone know that despite the board not being within the scope of the review, it was found that he was a high performing Chairman. Seriously, this particular weaselly coward is the reason that our club will only ever elevate to the top few in an adhoc manner. There's no ruthlessness and sadly, the coach that him and Roo chose seeps non-ruthlessness from every pore. They actively selected a coach that would give turds like Gibbs and Mackay the best chance of playing a game. It's disgusting.

Agree with most of this. With regard to the coach I would like to give him some time but I understand your comments.

My concern is that we have chosen a coach with more of an emphasis on relationship building at the cost of a football tactics and game day strategy.

Time will tell.

It'll be very hard to judge Nicks given our very green squad. I dont share the same pessimism..... just yet

He's inherited a shit sandwich. We had arguably the worst football department in the AFL in the last two years, which includes the complete lack of development (and regression in some cases) of our squad.

Not selecting Hartigan and Mackay was a good start.

For me, he was synonymous with us stinking it up in Melbourne and he seemed to rub in with his commentary. That may not be fair or even true, but that’s how I remember it.
Agree 100%

With Drew Roberts, Kevin Bartlett and co it felt like a little VFL cabal who were giddy with excitement when Victorian teams were doing well.

Goals to Vic teams were the result of their great play and champion players
Goals to us were the result of Vic teams' mistakes, bad luck or poor umpiring decisions.

Even the non-Vic commentators like Sandy Roberts (even Morphett was from Sydney but it was clear where his football heart lay) got swept up in this mindset.

Then if we were losing and started saving face with some late goals they'd go overboard enthusiastic with "Here come the Crows!" like a series of token, late game free kicks which were also common at the time.

It backfired on them in the 1997 preliminary.

Tim Watson after the siren: "A lot of what-ifs KB... (but let's actually talk about the team who won, eh?)"

One I liked was Ian Robertson. Seemed a bit more balanced than the others. Became less prominent over time sadly.

I thought Robertson was the worst of the lot, he used to sook about free kicks at Footy Park as if his family were being shot.

Was a good commentator for the Melbourne based games though

Did Robertson travel to Adelaide for games?

Don Scott and Peter McKenna were the ones who whinged the most about free kicks. The 1991 Fitzroy game is hilarious

Robbo travelled to Adelaide for some games - he called the SOO match in 1994 here with Bruce.

Was there a worse combination than Peter Landy and Peter McKenna (the Basil/Hamish of the 1990's)?

Robbo did the 93 North game

"That is the mark of the year, No one will beat that"

Haha you're right!

Peter Landy was a plastic, nothing turnip. Absolute lightweight. At least wasn't biased but was excruciating.

Peter McKenna released a few music singles haha

Watching the 93 norf game the other night, I think it was Robbo who posed the question: “do you think north will protest the free kick difference?”

I generally didn’t mind him either though.

One of the best moments of the 97 GF was the look on Mark 'Tubby' Taylor's face when the siren blew. He was sitting right near the Crows coaches box so the camera clearly picked up his cringing at the result. It's glorious.

I don't think McKenna ever recovered from being owned by Allan Jeans after this infamous World of Sport episode

I'd seen this before but never watched right until the end. The timing of the dude showing up with the product placement and the song kicking in is pure gold.
The dude is Jack Dyer

So with all the talk of raising the draft age if it happens it looks like the AFL will screw us once again. We've loaded up on Picks for this year with some kids looking half decent but if this happens we can't get any of them and are stuck with picks we don't necessarily want to use. The only way out of this is to not have a draft this year and picks carry over for all clubs but that won't happen unless the season is cancelled. The club needs to be very aggressive on this. Thoughts on how we can negotiate it?
