Just watched Caro (or Karen?) on nine news over here in plague city. Her comment on the Hawks cheating - “titillating, but wont go anywhere...”....the hypocrisy of that women is amazing....
She's right though. It was 30 years ago, and most (if not all) of the culprits are dead. How do you penalise a dead person?

Apparently he intends to.

Way to sabotage your campaign. People may well vote for him, if it means getting him off their television screens. Nobody's going to vote for him, if the have to put up with him as both Mayor and television "personality".

Maclure doesn't know what the FA compensation formula is but keep saying B.Crouch won't be a Band 1 FA compensation.....???? WTF, isn't he an AFL accredited "reporter", B.Crouch doesn't need to receive $800K per year to get a Band 1 compensation, he just need a club to offer him $650-700K per season.
No... he really needs to be offered $800K+ if we're to receive Band 1 compensation. $700K is well and truly in Band 2 territory.

Was always going to be ready made. Jones looked like a 14 year old in his first year.
This is where we ****ed up with our recruiting imo. When we drafted Jones and McHenry we considered ourselves contenders with a settled best 22 so having a couple of small mids developing in the SANFL for a couple of years wouldn't have been seen as an issue by our recruiters. Flash forward a couple of years and we're bottom of the ladder and down a couple of big bodied mids and now we're absolutely desperate for a ready-made mid (or two).

Fun fact the Crows womens team averaged 59.1 points over the 2019 season (9 games including 2 finals). The crows mens team are currently averaging 45.38 points after eight games. Swans, Hawks, Roos and Dockers all averaging less than 59.

Your fun fact needed to include the important differences in length of game time between the two competitions.

Yeah I dunno. It's easy to say that in hindsight. I think unless you have a glaring need and there is a player available that can meet that need relatively quickly (Thilthorpe?), drafting should be medium to long term thinking. If they happen to be ready then that's a bonus.

Okay but if you know that these guys will take a while to develop, maybe our list managers shouldn't have allowed 2 of our mature bodied mids to walk out the door for peanuts. When you end up with massive holes in your list, it's a symptom of poor list management.

It will be interesting to see how a potential lower salary cap screws us here.

He'll likely be offered less (but similar percentage of the cap) but there will also be a lot of players locked into similar contracts from earlier years possibly making it just an average top end contract.

Who saw the demise of Sloane, Matt and Brad Crouch coming so quickly though? I certainly didn't predict it and thought that they would be our A/B grade inside mids for the next few years.

We stuffed up getting better compo for greenwood, but I didn't think he would be particularly missed like he is.

The GF in 2017 should have been a hint to the club that putting all our eggs in the Crouch basket would not get us to a flag imo. We need more variety in our midfield, more height, more speed etc. etc. The Crouch boys are just too damn similar.

I don't miss Greenwood but I agree we needed to get a better pick for him.

Regarding Sloaney, giving a dude close to 30 a 5 year contract seems like a bad decision if he's on good coin. I hope they factored his age into that contract amount.

Can still penalise the club if systematic salary cap cheating.

Surely they would reduce everything by the % change in cap.

It was hard to get better compo for Greenwood. Why would GCS pay more? They had the first pick of the PSD and felt they were being fair.

Gibbs ;)

Anyway, I agree at that point, we needed some point of difference in our midfield. Been saying it for a while.

Not exactly true. There were 48 players paid more than $700k last season. $700k doesn't guarantee a band one, but it's obviously close - and I would suggest, considering the points bonus that comes with being 26, Crouch is probably more likely than not to be band 1 at $700k

$700K might get us Band 1 compo if the salary cap is significantly reduced. It's not going to get us Band 1 compo if the cap remains static (noting that going up isn't an option). Without a reduced cap, even the age factor won't counter the fact that he's just not getting paid enough to put him in that top tier.

This is where Brad's manager earns his coin.

Jaeger O'Meara was traded in by Hawthorn for pick 10 & a second round pick, and that was coming off an injury ravaged 2 seasons.

Brad has played twice as many games, and more importantly, comes for free trade-wise.

The lure of getting a B&F midfielder who took his team to a GF for no draft or trade cost might be too tempting, and a bidding war could start between Richmond, Swans, North, Geelong and any other team keen for an additional quality midfielder, that they'd be willing to part with an extra $50k-$100k per year for the benefit of not having to give up players or picks.

Not according to the formula the AFL use, he only need to be offer more than the 86% percentile of 25+ years old on the AFL list, likely $700K given you would think only 5% earn more than $800K+ so 14% earn $700K+ is plausible, I can't see 14% earning more than 800K+.

That's not what Rendell said on the radio yesterday and he would know.
