NFL 2020 - Off-Season Player News & General Discussion

When your gm & owner are both Jewish, it makes for some awkward conversations but looks like a genuine mistake, he's apologised so move on I guess.

Sums it up nicely.

What Brees said and what Jackson said aren't even in the same ballpark. One is just misinformed and ignorant, the other is outright racism/anti-semitism.

Yes there are plenty of examples of shitty people in the NFL, but using false equivalences to make yourself feel better about a player on your team doesn't change what he did (by "you" I don't mean you rumply, I mean the generic you) or mean that he shouldn't be punished for it.
Still had his speed early last season but theres got to be doubts about his body will holding up. If Eagles can get 8-10 games out of him, that'd be a win imo.
You misunderstand me.

My post has nothing to do with his ability as a football player. What Jackson posted is a fireable offense imo. Effectively saying "Sorry, I didn't understand what it meant" (which is what his first IG post in response basically means) doesn't cut it when the image he posted begins with the words "Hitler said" in bold.

And no, it doesn't matter that its not actually something Hitler said. Anybody who can read and has a shred of critical thinking ability should know that whatever follows is almost certainly the opposite of what should be said

He may yet get sacked but it would be an overreaction. Desean does plenty of good community wise as opposed to some of the scumbags that overstep, make mistakes.

He gets a second chance here, would be a sad way for him to exit the league.

Profootballtalk reports the NFL and NFLPA have reached an agreement on 2020 travel protocols.
Per PFT's Mike Florio, the agreement posits that there will be a preseason, though that is apparently still being negotiated. It had been proposed that visiting teams travel and return the same day, but it appears that has been scrapped. Every member of the traveling team will be required to wear masks, and buffets have been outlawed. That may seem minor, but it will make it infinitely more difficult to feed a group of literal linemen. If the league manages to pull it off, 2020 will be a season like no other, hopefully to never be repeated.

Travelling same day in the States seems pretty tough. Bit different in condensed Australia.

NFL players still remain subject to fines for positive marijuana tests under the new CBA.
Testing used to begin on April 20 (really), but now begins when players report to camp. “You must be prepared to drug test as soon as camp opens,” the NFLPA reminded its membership in a memo. “As in years past, testing is unannounced and will happen in groups. You won’t know the date of the test. You may be tested when you walk through the door, or you may be tested two weeks after camp begins.” Weed suspensions are a thing of the past, but escalating testing and fines are not. Why the league still tests for it at all remains a mystery.

The NFL has banned jersey swapping as part of its COVID-19 protocol for the 2020 season.
Great. Now what about solving some of the actual problems staring the league right in the face? What happens when a player tests positive? What happens if a city bans gatherings of a certain size and does not exempt the NFL? What happens in the event of a full-scale breakout in a locker room? What happens when a player wants to opt out of the season? The NFL is having a ball solving the pandemic's micro problems but is running out of time to get serious about the big issues.

Hard to swap jerseys when there is no games being played.

College football 100% should be banned while the risk of corana is still a thing in many states. Players need to mass boycott it. Why should anyone risk contracting it when they aren't even being paid?

You don't know the NFL do you?
Cant play with out the players.

Good luck trying to force the players to play in a global pandemic.

The NFL will try everything to play games. at best they will start a season but dont see it being a full season and might just rush into a playoff tournament after a shutdown. The NFL will make the team DR the voice of safety even with most people understanding the DR works for the team and to protect the franchise and not the players.

If anything im expecting a 6 game season where you play your division x2 then some playoff system thrown together at the last min

No one will force the players to do anything. They can play and be paid or they can sit out and they won't be paid.

If thats the stand the NFL takes then it will only take one player being forced to play since he needs the money and then catches the rona for them to be liable for a massive lawsuit.

I dont think teams can withhold the money from a player. they would be on the NFI list where at best part of the salary can be held by the team. but not everything.

There will be some sort of waiver in place that they will get the players union to sign off on. And they will sign it coz too many players spend beyond their means. Too many players would miss that potion of their salary to go on NFI.

While I do appreciate how ridiculous it sounds and the point he is making, one is a neccessary act of playing the game that we all want to go ahead and that get's him paid. The other isn't.

The reality is an avoidable extra 2 mins of contact is just that, avoidable.
