Polec is not a leader. Those three can do it easily. There is only 18 on the field at any point in time and 40 players in total at the club.

If those three were incapable, replace them as leaders then.

Set the standard, enforce the standard and demand excellence.

McDonald is entering his 8th season. Time for him to take over in a leadership role. Simpkin has played 70 plus games. Corr comes in as a 100 game player in his 8th season. They've got enough experience.

As I understand it, the BBB trade turns on the current Melbourne offer of 31 and 33. I think it's vital we get their 26, which gives options on both Stephenson and the Bulldogs pick 14. For the latter, we need to provide bonus points above the 1141 that #14 is worth.

31 and 33 together are only worth 1169, which won't be enough for the bulldogs. We could substitute our 28 and bump it up a bit, but it probably still wouldn't be enough.

I'm therefore thinking that for BBB we might settle for 26 and Melbourne's 43 - putting 26 and 30 (from Higgo) together would give the dogs 1358 points, meaning we effectively give them pick 11 for their pick 14

And we still keep pick 28 to weave into the Stephenson conversation (if that is in fact, real). Alternatively, we could put 26 and 28 together, giving the bulldogs 1406 points, a bit better than pick 10

With so many unknown quantities in this draft it wouldn’t surprise me if we preferred having an extra pick around 30 to packaging picks for 14 which is gonna drift to 18 or so anyway.

Mitch Cleary on trade radio said that North wont be trading any first rounders for Stephenson. He also met with the leadership group.

It's a second round pick or we walk away.

Higgins is the most professional player we've had at the Club for years, has two really good years in him and is easily in our best 22. Given our leadership challenges and our stripped down list - you seriously can't buy what he brings. The response from players yesterday really said it all. Pick 30? Nah.

And if we do end up getting him for a second or third rounder the melts will be delicious to say the least.

Lloyd reckons Pies can't expect more than a second rounder for Stephenson when it is basically a salary dump.

I also heard Lloyd say this morning that we were ridiculous letting a 31 yr old Higgins leave.... he also sunk the knife in saying we don't win many games when he is there..... wanted to point out that higgo isn't 31 he would be 33 before the ssn starts!

I think people have it absolutely backwards tbh.

I have a little bit to do with Higgo outside of footy as we live in the same suburb and his daughter is the same age as one of mine.

He has twins on the way and his move was as much about him wanting to move back to Geelong for stronger family support network than it was about Geelong sounding him out and shopping at the department store as you put it.

It was as much Higgo/his agent sounding out Geelong's interest mid year as it was Geelong targeting him. All of that aligns with North's decline on field and his twins diagnosis earlier in the year.

I think even if we made finals he would have requested a trade.

3 kids under 3 for a young mum with her husband flying all over the country for 6 months of the year isn't easy without a nearby family support network.
