Or use some of those second rounders to grab Collingwood's 2021 R1 pick which they will get rid of by the end of the draft.
I've seen a few people suggest this and I don't really get it. I know they've got Daicos next year, but he might get injured or play poorly, or maybe Collingwood collapse after their list management debacle and get a pick ahead of where Daicos is projected to go. IMO they'd be stupid to trade that 2021 1st without actually knowing, or having an educated guess if it would be swallowed by a Daicos bid.

More than a few rumours getting about that I've heard, that the GC deal may be done "in principle" with North.

North have the ability to reneg at any point up until the draft.

Take it with a grain of salt, but I've heard it from a few different people since the end of trade week.

Pick 2 for Pick 5,27,37 2021 R1.

North get the leftover of Hollands, DGB and Phillips. Most likely Phillips at this stage.

Pykie has been pushing this on, including all of GC's draft hand for 2020 as they only have the list space for one pick given they are getting some players for free via their concessions. It may require a swap of picks for 2021 as well, but we would get likely one of DGB or Phillips, 27, 37 and next years first for #2. We would have all up 5, 11, 27, 30, 37, 39 in this years draft and could look to trade up to grab Collingwood's 14 or 16, one of which is highly likely to go on a bid for their NGA Reef McInnis. So maybe something like 5, 11, 16, 27 and 39 in this draft, and 2 first rounders next year.

Yes, something like that. All depends on our interest in McDonald.

If our team want him then there is no discussion. If they fancy one of the other 4 then it is game on

WHat is the in principle deal Pykie ? 5 plus next year's first + what else?

That’s crazy talk. You’re crazy. If North pulled that off someone should go to jail.

Don't treat it as gospel.

But where there's smoke there's fire in these rumors leading up to the draft when it comes to pick swaps and draft ordering.

They tend to have some weight to them.

Could be plausible considering the AFL has stated that teams don’t have to draft a minimum of 3 players and don’t need later picks.

Gold Coast might feel that they have enough young talent and that Pick 2 could top off their list nicely.

That deal would be great for us as we can fill out our list with decent picks or package them up for something else?

I think the key this year will be staying in that top 5, that’s why I am not keen on dealing with Essendon.

So who are GC so interested in? Hollands?

Gold Coast are getting two zone access kids this year who are both top 20 quality, who they just pre-list. They don't even have to go through the bidding process as part of their concessions they were given last year.

They would be adding then Pick 2 + the two of them. 3 in total.

The rumor is they are red hot on Hollands, however I could see them wanting to pair McDonald with King.

I do think death riding Gold Coast next year will be tougher than Melbourne this year. I reckon they will crack a finals berth
Even if Gold Coast make finals, I can’t see them going deep, so you would think that is still very good value for us?

Potentially we are looking at something like 5, 27, 37 and 10-12 in 2021.

If the 2021 Draft is strong that’s a big win especially if we are more sold on someone who we believe will be there at 5.

So essentially they can afford to offload those later picks which we would value considering the amount of list spots we have open.

The big question is do we rate someone just as high as McDonald and Holland’s?

It sounds like we couldn’t go too far wrong with one of Phillips, DGB or Tilthorpe anyway.

100% agree.

The only worthy deal suggested on here so far IF we rank the 2020 top 5 as all equally viable.

Our 2020 picks would become: #5 #11 #27 #30 #37 #39.

On-trade #39 for 2021 2nd & 3rd.

We'd be packing up to head home from the 2020 draft with 5 new players before selection 38 (pre-bids) is even called).

Go into 2021 with 2x 1st, 2x 2nd, 2x 3rd.

Would there be any other clubs looking to swap one of their earlier picks for our picks worth more points GR? If the deal Pykie discussed happens and we had 5, 11, 27, 30, 37, 39, 71, 81 I doubt we would want to use all those picks

Maybe the Crows? They have a few father-son/academy prospects.

The other clubs with early academy prospects are the Swans, Power and Pies.

Don't mind that, think Phillips would be the one left over at 5, and would love to have him on the list.

So when we get to Collingwood's first pick, we bid on that Reef kid, then swap some of those picks in the 30's for pick 14? Feasable?

Edit: I meant our pick 11, then bid on McInnes, and try and get 14 or 16 off Collingwood. Thinking about it, not worth the risk, not sure he's that highly rated.

That deal would excite me more than picking Hollands or McDonald.

And primarily that's because I think Will Phillips would create an incredibly balanced and versatile future midfield with Simpkin and LDU. Those three each bring a different skillset, but importantly each bring a skillset that complements the others.

Do that trade with GC. Then get that pick 2 player back in 2 years via trade at a much reduced rate.
Not nearly as likely as that would have been a year or two ago. GC won't be a bad destination for AFL players over the next few years. If they don't play finals net year you'd think they'd be knocking on the door. And their talent pool is only getting deeper.
