Mitch Cleary confirmed on AFL.com.au today when talking about Brad and Atkins that is 1 pick per player.
Like I said... the practice has never matched the rhetoric they spouted when FA was first introduced.

The fact that compensation picks were announced immediately after the player signed with his new club, and those picks were immediately tradeable, meant that any attempt to aggregate compensation up or down was doomed to failure. There was no way they could award a pick, see it traded, then downgrade it when the compensated club signed a FA of their own.

I think a compo pick is only tradeable to another after the FA period closes so you can't "double dip"

I don't think for a second that we'll bother matching, so being restricted isn't really relevant.
Why wouldn’t we match For Brouch if the contract offer was insufficient for Band one compensation?

Surely we’d make it known that we would be matching any offer than didn’t secure band one?

What do we think about targeting Brenan Cox? Starting to shine at Freo. Kornes quoted today saying we should have a ‘sniff’. Feels like we should have gone hard at Bailey Williams, but Cox could be a good fall back?
I like that both Cox and McAsey can play at both ends of the ground. Something none of our current KPP’s can do. I like Cox more in defence, he is tons better than Hartigan.

I doubt he’d be too expensive.

Say lists get reduced to 38 plus 2 rookies.

I'm in favour of big changes.

Out:

B Crouch
Crocker
Taylor
Mackay
Gallucci
Atkins
Hartigan
Knight
Wilson
Strachan
Gibbs
Davis

12 out brings us down to 32 listed players, draft 8, Keays and Butts (we can still keep him as a rookie?) are the 2 rookies.

Starting to think the club will just pay out the Davis contract, can't be a big one. They seem to have zero interest in playing him.

Gallucci any other year gets another year.

Any other year we might have found a home for Kelly, unlikely with everyone reducing list numbers so he stays.

Can we draft 5 players before our academy/FS selections? Fingers crossed.

Guessing GWS pick finishes at 7. Dreaming of band 3 compo for Atkins, assuming zero compensation for Hartigan.

We'd have picks 1, 2, 8, 20, 21.

Picks for Edwards, Newchurch and Borlase 31, 44, 50 and 61.

Nope, tradeable straight away. Remember the deal which Brisbane & Gold Coast did a few years back - Brisbane released a player (can't remember who) as a FA, and then immediately traded the pick that they received to GC.

I dont think it works like that.

Guessing,

Brad - Band one compensation, pick 2

Atkins - Band four or five which for us is about the same pick 38/39 (I'm still holding out hope for a band three pick around 21, although it's an outside chance)

Hartigan - no compensation (would be great to get band five and pick 39 for him but not happening).
Is there any such thing as band 4 or 5 compensation? I thought compo cut out after band 3 😛?

Like who?
I fully expect every player from Matt Crouch and older to be considering their options now. Many would have bought into this year knowing it would be hard, but with hard work and teamwork, the rebuild would start and things would slowly improve over subsequent years.

Now they know that this year was a waste, they are a year older and the rebuild won't even start until next year.

Some of them will retire this year or next, but of the rest: They'll either seek a trade to somewhere competitive (or just leave if they can,) or only stick around because they know they can't get better elsewhere. And the club will likely pay a significant premium to make sure a few players choose the second option.

you mean to say..a guy that cost us something like pick 83 and has given decent service since then will maybe get us a pick in the 30's..sort of like buying and old 2nd hand car for $1000 and finding out it runs pretty well with some ups and downs and then finding out you can sell it for $4000 years down the track..good result
My mate did exactly that with a panel van about 10 years ago. Bought it for $2k, drove it all up and down the coast for 4 years, sold it for $4k... I was flabbergasted...

What i find amazing is this supposed 'soft cap' of footy departments.

This has to be A grade horsechit.

For example - How can Collingwood have high profile assistants such as Sanderson, Harvey, Boyd etc Sydney have Cox, Johnson etc

We have Godden, Hart, Clarke... :drunk:

Havent even got to the Fitness Department

Can we please actually bring out the cheque book?
Pretty sure if you had access to the books we would still be paying Pyke, Campo, Burton and Mattner in some capacity this year

Hey guys, sorry for the intrusion. Just wanted to find out if there was any legitimacy to these Wingard to Adelaide rumours I've read both here and on the Port Adelaide board.

I have despised Wingard since the day we traded the farm to land him, and would genuinely love to see the back of him. I find it a peculiar move for Adelaide given where your rebuild is at, and given he is 27 and not even a remotely good role model, I find the rumour an odd one.

Once again, apologies for intruding. If anyone has actually heard anything, please get in touch.
I find it fascinating that your current perception of him is the exact reason that would stop me from wanting a guy like him at the club. I've always thought he carries himself incredibly poorly in terms of body language. And would likely be a black hole of negativity in the lockerroom.

Sounds to me like my perception of him isn't too far off then right?

I think he would be wonderful at a club near the top, where he could front run without too much pressure coming at him on the odd occasion it went wrong. The problem is, he sure as sh*t ain't getting that at Hawthorn anytime soon, nor the Crows really. Our board keeps moaning about him sitting in a forward pocket most games when we can't even get it down there, which I do understand. But if a four time premiership coach isn't playing the guy in the midfield, I'd suggest there's more to it.

Haven't the club said they will concentrate on the draft for a few years then trade?

I'm happy to use any of those first 5 picks on young players, if the club thought they would be better than what we would get at the draft with those picks.

Add Himmelberg to that “see ya” list too.. especially if we get sniffs of CCJ being a possibility..

actually.. even if we dont get CCJ i think himm is a delist/trade..

had two good games.. everyone frothed over them and he has now followed those two games with two ordinary one’s.

took one great mark against geelong.. then missed the conversion from 20 out pretty much directly in front. He has done that several times now.. its so deflating..

the rest of the geelong game he didnt do much else.

just hasnt got it IMO.
