11 in a super draft down to 16 or 17 in an average and highly compromised draft is already losing value. He's not established yet but contract length and value might override that. usually players lose value until they are genuinely best 22. They aren't a struggling club with hardly any young stars either. They get top kids cheap every year and can't fit them all.

I think if we were to get anything back its a good deal but a 2nd is expecting too much IMO.
What is your point?Jono O'Rourke was a high pick as well.

Steele hadn’t fired before we got him either. He’s probably done well to get as many games as he’s got given the strength of GWS midfield.Just wondering why the huge hype on Caldwell? Hasn't exactly fired at AFL level yet.
You said you lose value, I was pointing out a drop from 11 in a super draft to 16 or 17 in a compromised draft was a drop in value, especially with something coming back.Where you go in the draft doesn't mean much. Bonar, Ahern, Pickett etc all went high sold low.

He was dropped towards the end of the year though, similarly to Caldwell.Yes he had actually. His stats were very strong for a second year player stuck in the forward line not getting the opportunity he wanted in the midfield.
Excellent tackle numbers, good clearances, marks, and won plenty of it. We really got him for a steal
No way we would get a player with those numbers now as a 20 year old without forking over a top 10 pick. Win for us.

Genuinely lost for words that Long’s appeal has been upheld
GWS sent Bonar packing for a 3rd round pick ffs.Where you go in the draft doesn't mean much. Bonar, Ahern, Pickett etc all went high sold low.

He was also a year older than Caldwell.
History suggests that if you can't cement a sit in the 22 and are out going to of contract you'll almost certainly lose value.
Can't imagine anyone having to giving up a top 10 pick for that kind of player.
We did very well though.
Unfortunately (Or fortunately) for us though out first this year doesn't hold the same value as it has

Gags and Lethers don't phuk around. The telling factor in deciding caldwells pricetag will be what each team has tabled him.
If it is accurate that we and gws have offered him 4/5 year deals, he's gonna cost our first.
No-one, not even us, was offering steele 5 years when we got him as a future 2nd.
His trade cost and contract offers by both sides represented the speculative prospect he was at that stage.
Caldwell is evidently considered a far more sure thing than steele was- by us and gws.
We of course could try and hardball the giants because he's uncontracted- but that adversarial approach doesn't seem our way.
And rightly so- gws and the suns will continue to leak elite talent back to victoria for years... we are best served trading fairly with them so they continue to deal with us professionally.
5 years could be on the cards.Yeah that's how it gets reported.the jungle drums are beating for Caldwell5 years could be on the cards.

Having seen Jye play regularly, all be it at Junior Level I doubt the Unfortunately part of your post will come into play.GWS sent Bonar packing for a 3rd round pick ffs.
They seem to still want Caldwell for some reason.
Libba wanted JC 2 years ago and clearly still does.
Gotta back your recruiting team unfortunately Gbung.
These ones seem to have some clue what talent looks like...
GWS have traded fairly with us in the past, Bruce for not much, Steele a second, the dp swap allowing us to get 5 players over the line. The telling factor in deciding caldwells pricetag will be what each team has tabled him.

I will agree with him on Bolton and Balta, they are very special players
