Just wondering why the huge hype on Caldwell? Hasn't exactly fired at AFL level yet.

He's not established yet but contract length and value might override that. usually players lose value until they are genuinely best 22. They aren't a struggling club with hardly any young stars either. They get top kids cheap every year and can't fit them all.
11 in a super draft down to 16 or 17 in an average and highly compromised draft is already losing value.

I think if we were to get anything back its a good deal but a 2nd is expecting too much IMO.

Jono O'Rourke was a high pick as well.

Where you go in the draft doesn't mean much. Bonar, Ahern, Pickett etc all went high sold low.
You said you lose value, I was pointing out a drop from 11 in a super draft to 16 or 17 in a compromised draft was a drop in value, especially with something coming back.

Not sure you can disagree with that.

I think he's worth more than all of those players you mentioned.

Time will tell.

Steele hadn’t fired before we got him either. He’s probably done well to get as many games as he’s got given the strength of GWS midfield.

Yes he had actually. His stats were very strong for a second year player stuck in the forward line not getting the opportunity he wanted in the midfield.

Excellent tackle numbers, good clearances, marks, and won plenty of it. We really got him for a steal ;)

No way we would get a player with those numbers now as a 20 year old without forking over a top 10 pick. Win for us.

He was dropped towards the end of the year though, similarly to Caldwell.

He was also a year older than Caldwell.

History suggests that if you can't cement a sit in the 22 and are out going to of contract you'll almost certainly lose value.

Can't imagine anyone having to giving up a top 10 pick for that kind of player.

We did very well though.

Unfortunately (Or fortunately) for us though out first this year doesn't hold the same value as it has

GWS sent Bonar packing for a 3rd round pick ffs.

They seem to still want Caldwell for some reason.

Libba wanted JC 2 years ago and clearly still does.

Gotta back your recruiting team unfortunately Gbung.
These ones seem to have some clue what talent looks like...

The telling factor in deciding caldwells pricetag will be what each team has tabled him.

If it is accurate that we and gws have offered him 4/5 year deals, he's gonna cost our first.

No-one, not even us, was offering steele 5 years when we got him as a future 2nd.
His trade cost and contract offers by both sides represented the speculative prospect he was at that stage.

Caldwell is evidently considered a far more sure thing than steele was- by us and gws.
We of course could try and hardball the giants because he's uncontracted- but that adversarial approach doesn't seem our way.

And rightly so- gws and the suns will continue to leak elite talent back to victoria for years... we are best served trading fairly with them so they continue to deal with us professionally.

Gags and Lethers don't phuk around.
There will be other clubs, like Geelong, thst are willing to pay a 1st so that's his value and we just have to pay it.
Hopefully we can get something back. Hopefully it's name is Hill.

Having seen Jye play regularly, all be it at Junior Level I doubt the Unfortunately part of your post will come into play.
Doubt in time that we will be disappointed

GWS have traded fairly with us in the past, Bruce for not much, Steele a second, the dp swap allowing us to get 5 players over the line.
If we have got Caldwell to come to us, we do the deal.
We are not halfwits like Dildo or Carlton.

Think the weekend showed that Ratts has a ‘kick-mark’ game plan for our team. Like it. Got to be different these days. And plays to strength (height in the forward line).

With this in mind... any chance saints could go all in on this game plan come FA/trade week? We’ve seen media mention of some possible interest in Ben Brown. What about Jeremy Cameron? Any chance we’d have the $$$ to pull that mega recruit off? Being FA and not needing to trade... has got to be considered if seriously considering Ben Brown.

Maybe just wishful thinking from me.

Loved that 00’s when we had Reiwoldt, Gehrig, Kosi and Hamil in the same forward line. Marks and goals galore.

Got to admit that the ‘bomb it long’ strategy Is great when falls mark or small crumb.

Thoughts? Am I dreaming? He could dock his boat bayside. Fishing isn’t too bad is it???

Watching the Ryder and Carlisle send off video and Carlisle at the end talking about being emotional because he knew it was his last game......then a pause and...”well for this year anyway”.

Sounds to me like he’s gone, not sure what other targets we might have our eye on but we will miss the Jake Carlisle that played Saturday night. He and Howard really clicked and with Lynch and Riewoldt up on Friday I hope someone can come in and be as effective.

Looking through the players OOC list nothing really stands out so will have to be another left of field.

Really hope I am wrong and JC stays on a 1-2 year contract.
