I haven't been sold on Carlton but they should be a good chance for top eight next year. It's a pretty solid looking team. Whether or not Williams can be the midfielder they want him to be will be important.

I agree that they are building a pretty solid team but the trouble I see is the money that they are spending. What made Geelong such a successful team for a long period was the division of salary cap between their top players. You offer Martin, Saad and Zac big money contracts with Cripps Doc and McGovern you would assume on big coin, Then consider if McKay,Walsh continue to get better and if Curnow reaches his potential they would expect offers it that range as well. They maybe digging a hole that will be hard to get out of in a few years. But if they can buy themselves a premiership I guess no one will care.

Yeah it'll be interesting to see how their player retention goes. You'd think they'll front load these contracts as much as possible to make sure it doesn't hamper them down the track. McGovern has been an absolute disaster. Looked bad at the time and has gotten even worse.

I love watching Carlton lose though. Never get sick of it. Docherty, Murphy, Jones, older Curnow and Betts getting pretty long in the tooth tho. Newman avg. Curnow struggles to get in the park consistently. If their older players can stay on the park and play well they should be good, but if not they have some big holes. Interesting to see how Williams goes in the midfield

They're looking like GWS light to me now. A bunch of high draft picks and a handful of over paid mercenaries.
What's missing is culture, and I haven't seen anything what-so-ever to make me think they're going to, or even able to build one.

If I were a betting man, they'll have a few sniffs at finals, maybe even win a couple, then they'll flame out and Cripps will leave before he hits 30yo.


Whilst the club is still run and controlled by dyed in the wool a-hole elitists, they'll never allow a heart and soul culture to exist because they have no comprehension of what that is.

They'll always look for the easy way out because that's all they know, and those who talk of doing the hard yards and conducting themselves honorably will always be viewed as losers.

We'll get to watch them mill around the bottom of the 8 for a few years, p155 their draft picks away for more overpriced and over rated outsiders, then slowly ooze their way back to another wooden spoon.

Hilarious what is happening at Essendon. Expect Fantasia to walk as well, given the lack of exposure of draftees this year and the fact that the draft is heavily compromised with Academy kids it is not the year you want to be loading up on a rebuild.

I’m sure they’ll work it out. Fagan knows what he’s doing. If it got too tall they could just drop McStay. He’s not so good that they have to find a way to play him.

Yeah I wouldn’t be surprised if he was a better defender than forward. He’s plateaued as a forward. They’re pretty well stocked for KPDs too. Andrews and Gardiner make a good duo. Will be interesting to see what happens with Payne and Adams.
