I'd be keeping Billings no matter what, he will be the cream on top when we continue building into a regular top 8 team.

Really excited for trade period, what I don't want is any outgoing staff though (Roughead, Lethers, Gubby, Rath, etc)
Ratts mentioned last night his plan to get more mids in so Billings can spend more time up forward.

Looks like he is in his plans and in the clubs plans.

Probably won more games for us off his own boot than any other player on our list right now, except maybe Gresham or Membrey with a few of his 4 goal bags.
Has kicked 4 goals or more twice in his career
one bag of 4
one bag of 5

The idea of trading out one of your best players because he hasn't reached the level people hoped for is so out of line with the idea of trying to get better each year. We finished sixth this year. Next year we want to finish top four. How does trading away a 25 year old player with multiple top five b&f finishes for a speculative draft pick improve us. Say we get a pick in the teens for him. If we're lucky, we'll maybe replace a good player with a good player after a few years development.

Billings' form from halfway through 2018 to halfway through 2020 was very good. Not superstar stuff, but a consistent top five player for us. He had an average back end to the season. I'm sure that Ratts will be working out how to make sure we get the best out of him, rather than just throwing the towell in and getting rid of him.
Wouldn't be for dp's but part of a trade for quality that makes us better. We aren't at the draft this year.

Got to be joking me, what’s the most number of goals he has kicked this year? Butler, Ryder, Steele, Marshall, Clark, Lonie, King all have impacted games more than Billings.

If people reckon Billings is a problem I think they're missing the real issue...

Our inside mids got absolutely waxed last night.

Steele, Jones and Ross is a bottom 6 trio in the comp imo.

Gresham and Clark need to improve and that'll give us a significant boost there.

Caldwell would suit perfectly. We have to many small fwds and not enough mids.

If Butler, Lonie, Kent became Butler, Billings and a rotating mid all of a sudden we have the best smalls and a significantly improved midfield.

LFG Gags
So he is part of a trade to get more quality mid or mids.
Honestly, Jack Newnes offered more for Carlton than Billings did for us.

When was the last time a club had to give up a player it wanted to keep, to get another player in the door? Kennedy to WC 12 years ago? There are ways to get good players in now without giving up a player.

Anyone think there’s legs in this Devon smith stuff?

Essendon are a waste of time. They'll waste the trade period ****ing around asking for ridiculous overs. We might as well just scratch him off the list now. Injured all he time anyway. Essendon are deliberately obstructive. Don't get sucked in by their shiny offerings.

There are unrealistic scenarios where you would trade any player.

Upgrading Billings is not that unrealistic. If we can get a first rounder for him (questionable) and use it to get a Taranto for example, then as a club you have to think about that. If we can't get an upgrade then he stays on the list.

But the unrealistic scenario is to say our list is not improved if we trade Billings. It could be.

Has a club done this in the last ten years? Shopped a player in order to get someone else through the door? It’s a player driven market these days. If a player like Taranto did nominate us, we wouldn’t be trading Billings out to get him. There’s zero indication that a contracted Billings is keen to leave. There’s also no indications that trading Billings is the only way to bring in a big name.

I still stand by that we don't improve our list by trading away good players - match winners - especially when it would mean we would still need to be fielding depth at best players.

Really. What if Billings and a future second gets Taranto done?

Never make decisions on one game, We Win as a team and Lose as a team. Billings has been a standout this year and his efforts helped us get to the finals. Hill has been a bit of a disappointment this year but if at the start of the season you would of told me how good Ryder would be for us, Butler nearly AA, Dougal dominated down back and Zak's clearance work 4 out of 5 ain't bad.
It may of been a disappointing result but overall I'm so happy at were we are as a club.

This is all hyperthetical, we are talking about what we would do, not what the club would do.
If the club used him for currency, I wouldn't mind, reckon for a no.3 he is a disappointment.

Been said a number of times it wont be for draft picks, it would be to facilitate a trade of quality mids.
Why can nobody understand that? More impressively how are you not tearing your hair out about people not understanding it?
Do that many people have you on ignore?

I would consider would I rather Taranto kicking the ball to Kent all next season, or would I explore every single possible scenario possible so I could have Taranto kicking to Billings instead so our best 22 improves significantly rather than marginally.
