Honestly think Stephenson would be the perfect foil to Max and Membrey. He’s different to what we’ve got which would make us extremely dangerous

Wasn't Robert Mace part of the deal?
Mace played a few seasons and was handy I suppose as we were pretty terrible back then.
As for the other two one kicked 10 one day from memory was horribly one sided and finished his career in the ressies.
King played a few games and finished off being CEO of basketball Australia or some other professional posting.
Greene was as shocked as anyone.
Remember hearing from a StKilda Board member that they traded Garry Sidebottom to Geelong for 25k and speeding back to the ANZ bank to bank the cheque before closing otherwise the wages cheques would have bounced.
Also the club using the social club money from Saints Disco to fund the football department for several years under Lindsay Fox.

As St Kilda celebrated a free agency heist on Wednesday as Adelaide flinched on Brad Crouch, few at Moorabbin would have cheered for the career of Jack Steven winding down.
Four-time St Kilda best-and-fairest winner Steven was not able to reignite his career at Geelong but the man his teammates called “Stuv” remains a popular figure despite his off-field battles.
Yet it was impossible to ignore the comparison on a day when St Kilda list manager James Gallagher came up big yet again.
With a modest draft pick starting point last season he was able to turn pick 6 and a handful of later selections into four players who finished top-10 in the club’s best-and-fairest in a series of complicated but interconnected deals.
What St Kilda would be even more thrilled about is that the players who left during those trades — Steven, Josh Bruce, Blake Acres — barely made an impact at their rival clubs.
All clubs ride their luck and at times come out on the better side of trades or free agency acquisitions.
Most Saints fans wouldn’t know former Crow and Macquarie Bank staffer Gallagher if he stood up in their bowl of porridge.
Yet by the time the club adds ruck cover in Shaun McKernan and perhaps acquires Jack Higgins, while still retaining pick 17 and next year’s first-round pick,. it will be a stunning pair of trade periods by the Saints.
What it shows is that good clubs do the lot — they trade smart, they select for specific needs, their development team go to work, their players learn a defined game plan, the culture improves them, they thrive as players.
All of that happened at St Kilda this year, but it is worth noting the club’s St Kilda’s sole trade jewel last season was pick 6.
St Kilda seemingly had to use it to get Brad Hill, but instead traded it to GWS for a pair of picks in the teens and accepted only pick 58 for Jack Steven.
Then they swapped 12 and 18 — the picks they received from the Giants — and a future pick to Port Adelaide for Paddy Ryder and Dougal Howard, and the Power was also prepared to hand pick 10 back.
They secured Brad Hill for pick 10, pick 58, a future second and fourth-rounder and got a Fremantle third-rounder back.
On face value they paid Hill plenty and gave away a king’s ransom of picks, and yet because of the success of his fellow acquisitions St Kilda fans are prepared to be patient with his modest form.
Then they held their nerve on Josh Bruce and got back picks 32 and 51 from the Dogs, passing on pick 32 and adding pick 76 to Sydney in exchange for Zak Jones and pick 56.
Pick 56 became All-Australian contender Dan Butler, who Carlton somehow passed on despite early interest.
As a result of that wheeling and dealing the club’s second pick this year is 64.
Richmond is keen to retain Jack Higgins but is prepared to let him go for the right price for the benefit of his football career if he asks for a trade, which he hasn’t so far.
So St Kilda would need to find something close to a second-rounder for Higgins, and still might have designs on using that pick 17 in another trade.
When clubs win flags we look back at a cluster of picks or consecutive drafts where they found a way to change their fortunes and tip their list on its head.
St Kilda’s Simon Lethlean spruiked former Adelaide player Gallagher’s skills in data analysis, deal-making and relationship-building when he came on board in August 2018.
Those 38 games at Adelaide before a 200-plus game SANFL career might not have caught the eye, but it could scarcely have been a more impressive first 27 months.

Veteran AFL reporter Caroline Wilson revealed the Crows and Saints had discussed a "side deal" over another player.
That deal is reported to have been engineered to circumvent the AFL's complicated free agency compensation system, to give the Crows a top-end pick.
Wilson told FIVEaa Radio the Crows and Saints had held talks over off-loading 25-year-old former SANFL player Luke Dunstan to the Crows in a move that would have allowed the Saints to beef-up their contract offer to Brad Crouch, gifting a higher compensation pick to the Crows.
"Dunstan might go to Adelaide as part of a side deal that would free up a bit more money for Brad Crouch, which would mean St Kilda was happy, Adelaide was happy because it would lift the draft pick," Wilson said.
"This side deal was something that a few other clubs got wind of, might've mentioned it to the AFL.
"Legal counsel Andrew Dillon oversees all of the trades – he got wind of it... St Kilda was told this is not going to happen so don't even think about it.

We tried to deal with Adelaide, the AFL blocked our side deals, so our hands were tied, we kept our first and Adelaide were stuck with compo. The AFL helped us and shat on the crows. Win.

Tarryn Thomas will be a gun and Logue is just a bit injury prone, he missed 22 months of footy and still only 21. If you wanted to come up with three busts they aren't who you'd pick. Coffield to me is one of our three A graders. I'd only have Steele and Butler better than him in 2020.
Saad doesn't do that much for me. He's fast and eye catching but he's not that damaging some how. He's like an upmarket Nick Hind, he's not like peak Johnisson or anything. I reckon he's worth a late first early second at best. Pick 15 to 22 sounds about spot on to me just on the vibe of it.

He had Glandular fever at the start of 2020, which having had it when I was young absolutely smashes you. You have chronic fatigue like symptoms for about 12 months after it. A lot of others like Kane Kornes are the opposite, saying he's barely hit potential. It sounds like Collingwood want a high pick, he's on a good wage and potentially some issues with professionalism off field.
To me he's a very good chance to become a match winner again, you don't get many chances to grab those. I don't think we'll chase him but I think we'll regret it. Think he'll be a Robbie Gray like player long term.

Wasn’t there a player recently that had to retire prematurely because of glandular fevers ongoing effects? Not to imply it’ll always be an ongoing condition, but more to highlight just how damaging it can be.

I still don't think he's too bad. I hate to admit it but I have watched him at Essendon over the years and wondered why he's dropped so often and thought he'd be worth a shot. They seem to have a lot of those B grade forwards like Mitch Brown, James Stewart and Stringer, none are great but all are solid with the odd exceptional performance. I think he'll be a bit better than some people expect. He's around Josh Bruce level and I liked Josh Bruce.

I'm not sure, but I know it knocked me around. It feels like your bones are made of lead and your energy levels plummet. It would be impossibly difficult as a pro sportsman.

Watch his highlight from when he was the rising star. He was as good an under 18 as I've seen, he wins matches by himself and does the freakish. He's had a poor year but his talent is incredible.
Been too enthralled in what is going on in America to keep up with the trade period.
