KC's gone all emo on us :p;)

Ha, I think one legitimate H&A appearance in 20 years has finally cracked my nut Micky.

This squad's 2nd half of 2019 plus Shaw's emphatic battle cries at the preseason launch yet again sucked me in and I held slightly higher hopes than providing pincushions for Richmond and Geelong this year.

I am now entering the acceptance phase though so soon I'll be posting more about crystals and spiritual healing.

At the moment we have 3 first-round selections (circa 4 and 10 this year and probably top 5 next) and a second-round in both those years as well. How can we get another first and maybe two more seconds in that period?

In some ways we probably can't without too much collateral damage due to the shortage of surplus quality in the aforementioned mid 20s group.

Anyone worth anything on the trade table will bleed us out too much and anyone expendable from a list perspective won't draw anything of value.

It's telling that (imo) crows and us didn't work our positions very well in the last few years so have had to rebuild by simply delisting lots of players or trading fringe players for very little return and hitting and hoping at the draft.

The only realistic avenue I can see is Brady pick swapping enough to give us more opportunities in regions of the draft we feel are undervalued.

This off season is going to be intriuging to say the least. I can't see Brady sitting on his hands and just hoping for the best. I don't reckon he leaves the comforts of West Coast unless he's been given the green light to do what he sees fit.

Agree with be lively.... and personally can't see all picks taken to the draft.... there will be some dangled in the trade

Maybe this thread should be re-titled "Delisted Free Agents" - I can't see us trading for anyone, it'll be the draft and the Josh Walker scenario (of which there'll be plenty to choose from with a reduction in list sizes)

And free agents

Really think with the financial hit players have taken this season , a big offer might entice some.
You get one and it will start an avalanche.

Don't disagree that it will be something of a buyers market, but I think the Board will be hoarding the shekels

Our list profile probably means we should be under the least salary cap pressure of any team in the comp. Just as those 25 to 30-year-olds that are proven commodities get the best trades, they also get the highest paychecks. It is widely known that based on all their current contract the Giants are over for next year and Cameron and Williams haven't yet signed. I heard someone in the media speculate that if Williams wants to stay to have a crack at a flag with GWS he is doing so on $200k to $300k max. He can make at least a million more than that over his next contract by moving. It will be interesting to see how hard Brady chases free agents and what types he is most interested in.

Agree it sounds like our cap space is a non-issue.

The main determinant imo will be when we project out list build to start contending and how that lines up with any acquisition's ages at the time.

RFAs will be around 26/27? That fits into a 3 to 5-year window. They may want to keep that powder dry for another season to really give them time to work out what they have in terms of young players.

Dunno. I don't reckon you go balls deep into a rebuild by trading out top 10-20 draft picks.

I don't see that we need the full rebuild and not sure they do either but maybe I'm wrong.... I think they feel if we get in a couple more good youth def one very early pick and maybe one later say in teens, couple of free agents and an elite player maybe two and we will ready to launch.... then at the back of this get rid of some of the tried and tested and failed of the oocs

Maybe we can poach some of Geelong's exciting young depth ;)

We’ve got 4,7 and 30 at the moment. Next year we got back to status quo. It’d be a fair effort to turn that into a couple of good kids and an elite player or 2.

I’m wondering if we have to either try and trade the draft pick for established talent and have a crack with the veterans or we trade into the draft.

If we have a bit each way, we might just linger where we have been.

Number 4 - 189cm very talented flanker with no real position.
Number 7 - A gun player that's already had 2 knee recos at 19.
Number 30 - Some obscure draftee no-ones ever heard of.

I'd be happy with that.

4 id be def at the draft not too sure on the 7... like someone else said maybe flick that in to two teen late teens and use one in draft one in trade... then the one or two rfas and 4 or 5 additonal players.... without mentioning the 30.... and I've still an open mind with bbb

Any idea of whom will be DFA?
The idea of others scraps isn’t appealing but always believe talent exists in lower leagues

Cam Joyce in da house

Ben Brown is on record as saying he doesn't like the hot weather, so why would he want to play in Brisbane?

Things in football can change very quickly, GC was a basket case last year and they turned it around in a fairly drastic fashion this year........by getting rid off those who don't want to be there. We need to clean out those who shouldn't be there be it perennially injured, mediocre, those reaced their ceiling at 25 etc.
