I’m torn between what we should and what we could Draft.

Should is the Henry/Cook/Chapman etc

Could is Baldwin scenario.

Why Baldwin

Second knee injury was a partial tear, unrelated to initial ACL, with 6 month recovery. He is already back running and doing the same level of weights he was doing in the preseason. Ie he’s recovered.

Knows how to football (all Aust U16 CHF) and was Captain of winning SA side, . Ie has character!

Start of the year was training with league level at Glenelg not the Colts, most probably wouldn’t have played a colts game.

Re Baldwin: risk of tearing ACL on the other leg is approx 2x higher post reco, and the chance of recurrence in the operated ACL 25%. Also around only half of those who have had ACL return to their pre-injury level of sport.

As Gav points out, it's a little early to declare the rebuild done. Still some big needs to fill.

What exactly do you consider a risk? What player would you take that you consider a risk?
The other aspect is that with a still pretty new coach establishing a game plan Longmuir likely has some unfulfilled list requirements. Work in progress for now.

Anyone able to post the article? I don’t want to contribute to some Media Exec’s Riviera fund.

If I was Shultz and Norf offered me something better than a rookie spot after what I would have considered a decent enough year with Giro, Colyer, and Swit taking little or no part in similar enough positions (yes I understand they have existing contracts but I'm not sure what they're worth considering the pay cuts forced on the players in 2020), I'm going home.

On the other hand, shows our list is getting tighter for spots.

The flip side is it's likely that because they are RL spots we are offering more $ than a team like North would for a ML spot. If I was Shultz I would certainly leave if North were hypothetically offering more years. Somehow though I doubt North or any of the rebuilding clubs are going to want to get into a bidding war over another clubs C graders. For free on the cheap is one thing, but 3 year deals or an extra 100k I reckon they'll pass.

The difference is only cosmetic., not worth getting the ego involved.

The downside though is... having to play for North.

I suspect I'm in the minority. I have no problem with Schultz moving to the rookie list. My main concern is Freo offering more than 1 year - I really hope they haven't. I like him but he (and all our small forwards) need to step up another level next year - we are going to have to get rid of some, I'd prefer they are competing for who gets to stay next year not this annual getting rid of players when existing players are only staying only because they still have a contract.

Potentially giving them an extra $80k a year than they would on the main list. Not bad really, given it’s just a label

Can rookies be on the rookie list but get paid more than 80k or whatever the rookie contract usually is?
You can pay them whatever you like above the minimum, the first $80,000 will be excluded from the salary cap.

Off the top of my head the players who have had ACL and had few/no issues

T Walker
Petracca
Nic Nat goes ok after 2 I think
Libratore
Vardy

And then there are the knightmare ones.

Didn’t stop Kemp being drafted last year and Holland is a top 5-10 this year.

Just saying.

Baldwin is probably the most natural CHF in this years draft, but does have the knee issue... it’s either an issue or it’s not!

I hope someone swoops in and steals Banners before we re-draft him. That way he still gets to be on a list but we get another spot.
Don't think that's how it works now. We just put them there and it's done.

Edit; I just checked and I'm wrong.

This year, I think Chapman is the "We should pick.." but part of me goes "but his best position at this stage seems to be as a CHB, and we already have a problem with having too many of those?".....
In the bigfooty phantom draft the problem with taking him is clear; we have now added 2xhbf to a list that doesn't really need them. Neither have given indications they can play other positions either.

Individually good selections, the question about whether our weaknesses, which are forward of centre, are workable.

Who's got a list of the talent available for the following? Wing, Midfield, Half-Forward, Full-Forward, Forward-Ruck.

Only positions I think we should consider to go along with SPEED.

What does anyone know about Michael Mallard from West Perth? Ruckman/Forward 200cm.

Would he be worth a late pick?
