That's good news that Carroll is injured. Hoping he may be available at our second pick.
Our second pick is likely to be around pick 28 and pushed back on the night to about 35 after bids. I reckon the first round will go to pick 24 or so with bids etc. Strong chance that either Western or Walker will be bid on by then, and chew up the second. Would be great if we got 2 live picks before the NGA kids but most draft boards currently have Walker in the early 20s.

That is partly because unlike the Victorian prospects they are getting exposure. But if Carroll is available and a bid comes, I hope he is considered.

Listening to a podcast yesterday talking about the NFL draft and a quote from a team GM was along the lines of: “if two prospects are even, we’re taking the guy that has most recently played”.

So basically they will favour the guys that are in a position to play games this year over guys that didn’t.
Now I’m not sure the afl system is as sophisticated as the nfl and I think there is more inherent biases in AFL recruiters but it will be interesting if there is similar thought processes.

People need to consider certain things when saying we need two picks before Western and Walker.

1. If you chase points on draft day you get screwed ie the Port deal
2. We need to cut another player off the list.
3. We only have picks 9/11 and 28.
4. Next years a stronger draft by reports
5. Any deficits come off next years draft

I would downgrade pick 28 for two third picks and then trade a our 2021 third round pick for a 2020 third round pick.

That would give us three third round picks which will enough points for both Western and Walker.

The following year we would have a first and second round picks.

You can only enter the draft with the same number of picks as available list spots. That is, you can't stockpile three third rounders to draft two NGA lads.

We would need to pick another late in the draft.

Dockers have a great record with late picks.

My idea would be cut Colyer to create another spot and then get him back as a delisted free agent.

Chapman back to colts this week.

A lot of the school boys are back playing colts including Motlop.

Carroll injured.
They are preparing for finals now so colts comp becomes the focus. However, those like Logan McDonald and DGB have played the whole season in League so they won’t drop back.

Also PSA is done so the likes of Bazzo etc will be playing.

They won’t do that and not even sure you can. I’m not a huge fan of Colyer but he has been ok and seems to be working hard (ie good work ethic). Decent depth to see out his contract. He was traded for a pick (future fourth) that I’m not even sure Essendon used.

They will more likely delist likes of Meek and Giro and if available select them in the rookie draft. They have done this most years for as long as I can remember (North and Dixon last year, Hughes I think the year before along with Apeness before Apeness retired, didn’t do it 2017, did it with Grey and Deluca 2016, Morabito was another etc.)

I reckon the days of 3 year contracts for fringe players like Colyer are over and rightly so. Giro was unlucky to spend the Majority of the last 2 seasons injured, but he’s very lucky to be contracted next season otherwise he’d surely be on the chopping block.
If players like Dixon, North, Valente, matera, Banfield, Thomas are you be kept on, its surely a one year deal maximum?
I’m not sure I’d even give Bewley two years in the current climate, Schultz has probably done enough for 2 more years but it’s debatable.
Main signing I want to see this off season is Cerra. Every list manager in Melbourne will be eyeing him up next year if he hasnt signed before the season starts. Get it done Belly!
