At the moment, I’m thinking Callow goes later than most expect.

I’d take Neale.
Brisbane picked Andrew Harris at pick 61, leading forward at 202cm. If we can get Callow, Neale with a 3rd
rounder that's a good buy.
Even if Callow does project down back, at 100 kg he won't be pushed around, vice like hands.

so which player is best available at our pick? So far there seems to be about a dozen of them.

Lot of choices, and depends on the recruiting teams evaluation.

With first rounders recently we have gone for hard working skilled players with multiple position capability.

They also need to buy into the culture JLo is trying to create so I suspect the identification of talent/skills is only 1/2 the selection process.

Let’s assume the big 6 ie McD,Holland, Tilthorpe, DGB, Campbell, UHagan are gone.

Personally I like at our pick 12 the following in order.

Chapman, Henry, Macrae, Cox, Cook, even possibly Carroll. A big kahuna pick would be Baldwin, but the medical report had want to be really good.

Bit early for Cook, Carroll and Cox.. I suggest, some don’t have Macrae up that high either. Trading the pick 12, linked with the 32 pick for some late teen picks and some junk picks would indicate we have a target person whom we think will be available a few picks later than 12.

It’s strange that Baldwin is knocked down a lot because of the ACL but Holland’s has also done his ACL but is considered top 5 material.

Given only around 50-55 players are likely to be picked up, and with so many Father sons, and Academy players, it looks like only the first 2 rounds will count with a few dregs floating in after that!

That last statement is the reason why I'm dumbfounded we couldn't have wrangled a couple more late picks out of GWS when sacrificing Jesse.

I suspect there were too many variables at play. List sizes/TPP etc.

Now that we know that we can use extra picks for points etc. I wouldn't be surprised if there's a pick swap announced (even if it's on draft night)

If our recruiters are as good as I think they are we will come away with some good players. I know it isn't a great draft, but there still seem to be decent choices. They may work out or not. Them's the breaks.

I wondered at first as well but with the announcement yesterday that clubs can go into the draft with as many picks as they like without having to actually use them all has worked in GWS favour. Keeping pick 73 or whatever it is could come in handy for some points if a later bid comes for their academy player Green.

People need to move on from the Hogan trade - it was a salary dump. There were a few salary dumps like Peter Wright (pick 8 draftee - traded for future fourth for eg.) and Tom Phillips for pick 65.

The AFL indication to allow many picks to be used for points (without need to use as a draft selection) will actually see some of these late picks slide forward like pick 55 to the 40’s. We prob need to get another pick between 35 and 50). I expect we will swap some picks either before or during the draft.

Picking up yet another 193 cm defender with our first rounder would be the most unnecessary, and also most fremantle esque, thing we could do
I'm reasonably confident we have no real interest in Chapman unless we think he can play elsewhere. Does not remotely match the messaging out of the club from JL and Bell in the last 6 months.

Duffield had NFI what we were doing during trade period so I don't think he has any great knowledge here either.

Whichever way we go I think there should be some really good options at our first pick.

To make it a really good draft we need luck in getting a second rounder in before the bids for the NGA players.

The way we have been drafting lately I’d back the club to pick the talent many clubs would miss in the second round, could get a bargain.

Agree. If the second batch of talls are gone before our pick (Chapman, Reid, Cox etc), there's a fair chance there will be a quality player that's slipped (ie. Young last year). Although I want us to go tall, we must be open-minded and still err towards best available.

Chris25 if we are looking for a fat side winger, which of this years crop best fit the requirement.. let’s throw in Western and Walker into the mix, but also throw McRae and Cook into the mix

I think the only reason they would select Chapman would be if they consider B.Cox as a forward, better than any option remaining in the draft. There’s every chance he could be.

He was training with the forwards this pre season up until Hamling went down, so the short term plans for him was always to play forward & he was drafted to play forward.

Personally if Chapman is available I’d have no dramas with them selecting him because of that reason & he would be the best available come our pick.

I think Chapman will be gone by our pick and it’ll come down to whoever is left on the board out of Cook and Carroll.

If both are available, take the local.

yeah i‘m not sure how much of it was Duff and McArdle going Freo + WA boy expected to be taken around our pick = interested in him, as opposed to us actually being very into him

Have to say if Cox is on the board at our pick, I would be surprised if we leave him, he actually addresses both the needs stated by Belly and JLo, outside speed and also a developing KPF.

He could become a game changing winger making the perfect outlet dump kick/drop back interceptor leaving our 2nd ruck (Lobb) forward and deeper which holds our structure, he has the pace and kicking skills to do this. Or he develops into the KPF over time as he really is a great size and good marking player.

If he's gone on draft day I wonder if we think of live trading out our 12 (or 15 at the time) for some early seconds like another poster mentioned in another thread eg. for Crows 22+23, where we can take Baldwin/Neale/Callow without reaching too far or if we just take best available and back top end talent.

You would think with Western + Walker both addressing our needs for outside speed our focus with our other pick(s) would be a tall and probably a medium forward to replace Banfield? So if Sturt/Fyfe is injured we don't have to change our structure and go smaller. Ford would be a good option for that I think
