Just on Dumont, it seems a known secret he’s heading back to SA at the end of the year. We’ve heard similar statements to the ones some of you have relayed here.

He’s a very handy player and whilst not solely attributable to him, it’s no coincidence our form has improved when he’s come back into the side. He is no superstar but he’s a team first player and stands it like dog balls in our side for his ability to run both ways.

Won’t command an outrageous salary and will make any team he lands at better.

Turned 26 today.

Trent to my memory is quite a decent footballer.

You can please correct me if wrong but I believe he’s been quite high in your best and fairest the last few years.

Would be a good and cheap addition to a young squad I think

Pass

Trent Dumont would be a fantastic addition to Gold Coast. He's exactly the sort of player they need, experienced, right age profile, hard worker, two way runner, sets the standard.

They should have targeted him instead of Rory Atkins

I think the crows have their foundation key forward right now. What thry desperately need is 1 or 2 midfielders to carry it forward. When I say foundation midfielder I’m talking players like Martin, Bontempelli, Petracca/Oliver, young men who take the club and players with them.

I genuinely believe Thilthorpe is that type of lad - just need 2 more like him that are midfielders.
I totally agree regarding the mids (I think everyone agree's we need some high quality mids through this draft).

But what if you could get 1 this draft and also have Luko playing CHF for you?

Those injuries might help us with the SA kids

I remember speaking to a club recruiter (not a head guy, just in the network) and he said their role is to compare players more so than identify players.

That's why they like things such as the draft combine and U18 championships where all players are together in the same conditions, able to be measured against each other directly rather than trying to work out whether a WAFL U18 game performance stacks up against a Vic College performance

Covid creates an element of unknown already. If you also add less exposed form due to injury then clubs might be less likely to add a further unknown (crossing state lines) into the mix.
I think it could help a kid like Draper slide, but how far who knows ??

Ha ha - Yes I understand Trent will be the type who doesn’t get much in between - it’s either a yes or a very hard no.

I think he might be the kind that Nicks likes. That’s just a guess though.
Luke Dunstan might be the type Nicks likes too but this bring middling SA mids back home is not looking to the future.
If we're bringing home SA lads at least bring in some class in the right age bracket.

Correct me if I'm wrong but aren't both Luke Dunstan and Trent Dumont RFA's at the end of the season the same as Matt Crouch so there goes the free agency compo unless a trade can be manufactured.

Both inferior players to Matt Crouch across their AFL careers

Yes I think that’s correct and it a very good point. Although personally I’m on the side who very much hopes that the Crows keep Matt Crouch. A valuable player, club best and fairest / all Australian, and I find it strange some seem happy to discard.

Very odd.

Matt Crouch>>>>Luke Dunstan>>>>Trent Dumont.

Oh good god there’s no doubt about that assessment at all. Matt Crouch is very high quality.Personally I would like to see Crouch stay and also pick up Dumont as a FA. It would feel like 2 new additions for zero cost.

Isn't that exactly what WE need? 😅

Like, literally all of those things haha.

Right in the dead zone of our age profile too

Won't surprise me if we get involved.

No hurt factor. Low impact from his bountiful possessions.

Very Lairdlike in that regard.

Not sure that's 100% correct though. Crouch is the distributor to the outside running types of which we are growing a healthy number of.

I wouldn't be overpaying him but he's very much a required player at the club IMO.

How many accumulators do you want in the side? Not a lot of damaging types in there. Also means Berry, Schoenberg and Pedlar will be waiting until 2026 to get midfield minutes.

Look - my apologies to everyone this morning. I didn’t realise Matt Crouch and Trent Dumont were so polarising as footballers. I’m not an arguer so I’ll take my leave from those 2 boys being discussed.
