Im not convincedgiven our performance on Friday, fair chance we‘re looking at another top 3 pick next year too.
Depend if Friday's performance will be a trend.given our performance on Friday, fair chance we‘re looking at another top 3 pick next year too.
Have you actually watched Callaghan play?Callaghan and Roberts I’d love for us to get. I’d try and trade into the draft to get them.
You wouldn't have taken Riley Thilthorpe, Luke Pedlar, Brayden Cook, Sam Berry where Hamish took them? Who would you have taken in preference? His late / rookie picks are alot of hits
Jordan Butts a prime example , but for mids or mid/ forwards he really struggles
last years draft looks promising , would like to see another pre season into Pedlar and Cook

Fischer McAsey? Trading down and still getting Hamish's targeted player and a definite list need? End result we nabbed Luke Pedlar the following year?
Sure we might have taken Lachie Ash or Hayden Young (running backs), maybe Dylan Stephens (wingman) or Caleb Serong (mid/forward) but then no Luke Pedlar? Harry Schoenberg at pick 23, who would you preferred at that point?
Given you have the benefit of hindsight but without it who would you have taken before Chayce Jones that went after him?
I can make a case for taking Duursma before Neddy though I like what Neddy brings to the team both on and off field.
Just about everyone on this board would have flamed out if we didn't take Fogarty when he was available at our pick.
I can make a case for not taking Gallucci where we did but let's not forget Hamish was set to take Tim English a KPP/Ruck, maybe we should have taken Jarrod Berry or Sam Powell-Pepper (ball burner) or Will Hayward (187cm forward) who I know you were keen on both
I didn't hear too many screaming when we took local Wayne Milera and well Tom Doedee who everyone on here to a man were screaming WTF?
Jake Lever? Pity Hamish and the crew misjudged his character but this was the fella that said he was indebted to Adelaide for giving him the chance after doing is ACL and other clubs passing him over?
Then as a result of draft sanctions that Hamish had no control over he managed to pick Matt Crouch an All Australian with pick 23 (Bernie Vince trade)
Not entirely sure about this. I agree the contested ball-winning could use some work, but his overall skillset more than makes up for it at this point. He can play on the ball, so IMO there's room for improvement - not necessarily a pure outside typeHave you actually watched Callaghan play?
To my eye I want to see a bit more of his contested stuff and his disposal under pressure before I go all in just yet.
I've seen him compared to Bontompelli, I think some need to have a closer look at Bontompelli in his draft year, IMO he's not there yet.Not entirely sure about this. I do know you like players to show as much of an inside game as possible, but the traits Callaghan has scream potential game-breaker to me (but probably a lower floor than some other top-tier prospects)
Yeah I'm not quite going as far as Bont at the moment haha, he does have real nice athletic traits and agility in traffic but I don't think his game is THAT well rounded just yet (which is by no means a dig at Callaghan)I've seen him compared to Bontompelli, I think some need to have a closer look at Bontompelli in his draft year, IMO he's not there yet.
Others might see it I'm not quite there yet given it's a small sample size so far.

I would have taken Logan McDonald but I’m happy with Thilthorpe - they’re both guns
need to let Pedlar have a pre season or so to find out , the other one I liked at that pick was Bruhn but I’m ok with Pedlar
cook I’m happy with and jury out a bit on Berry , I think he will be a solid role player but not a huge amount of upside or doesn’t add to our list balance . I don’t think it’s a bad pick though
as I said above Hamish seems to have done well in last years draft at this early stage of review ( long way to go )
The main ones he didn’t nail were as you say Galluci , Poholke , Jones ( I thought he’d be better , Ned ( took him too early )
don’t want to judge Mcasey yet as I like him long term
as I’ve said before my main issue is the midfield types he goes for , they tend to be all very similar lack versatility , ball use and a point of difference , in isolation some are good players but put together they’re not
was never a huge Fogarty fan but also understand why he picked the local with talent
we’ve had a few early picks now and if you look at a list of the best U23 players in the comp not many of ours would be on there
some comes down to development not recruiting and injury / development eg milera so not all his fault
as I said above he has smashed his later and rookie picks , jury out on his earlier picks , I think that’s fair . Especially re the midfielders . He did well with Shoenberg ! Has a bit of burst !
We played this game before. We ended up with Jones and McHenry.but what if mat Roberts ends up being a star, or Chesser or Sinn or Sonsie etc. We will likely have one of those lads and also a likely top 5 pick next year to go after another top mid OR trade for a player we want possibly. Mutineer is dead right, we need to wait for the champs and Horne is untried at AFL level so far anyway
Yep we did , would have liked to have seen more of the WA boys that year . You got to remember that he’s the head recruiter and this is his full time jobPoholke pick 44 not a later pick?
What mids taken after him that year other than Jack Graham have been much better....and I know you and I weren't particularly keen on Jack Graham so along with Hamish we got that one wrong?
Jones was a bolter to be just inside top 10 pick and he went at pick 9 and McHenry was pick 16, neither were top 4 pick.We played this game before. We ended up with Jones and McHenry.
By this time of season we’d normally have had all the champs games so you’re right we need to focus on who stands up and shows what when the best come togetherI've seen him compared to Bontompelli, I think some need to have a closer look at Bontompelli in his draft year, IMO he's not there yet.

You have cherry picked what I’ve said as it’s come in different postsNo!!!!
You’re like a gambler who only remembers the wins
Hamish has some late/rookie picks. ALL TEAMS have some late/rookie picks
That is what forms the base rate of the league.
He doesn’t have ENOUGH of these wins to keep up with other teams hauls, or to fund his poor record at the front of the draft

At the end of the day, we've only had one player drafted by Hamish go on and reach AA (with us anyway).
One player in nearly 10 years (and that player is no guarantee to be with us next year).
Early picks or late picks, that's not good enough.
Haha don’t worry about it , there are many more posts I’ve spoken about itCherry picked your entire first paragraph?
Surely you have to count Charlie Cameron as well who he drafted, even if he leftAt the end of the day, we've only had one player drafted by Hamish go on and reach AA (with us anyway).
