FYI, we have done this dance before havent we?

Four-way trade in the works involving Adel, Melb, STK, WB.

Will see Melb end up with the Dogs' pick 17. Dogs get more points to help match Sam Darcy. Adel get Melb's future 1st rounder. STK a stronger draft hand @7NewsMelbourne @7AFL

Based on what happened last time, back-to-back flags for you guys is a shoo-in now ... very smart trading by your club.

Well... that's back-to-back cups for the Dees now for sure

It may be Sydney doing the death-riding.

Also seems like we don't really rate the talent in the back end of the first round/start of the 2nd round.

We pretty keen to move on those picks.
Those backend picks served no purpose ...weren't going to use them

As much as some people won’t like to see it, the new offer to Sydney will likely be:

Dees 2022 first
Our 2022 second

for

Dawson
Pick 39 OR Swans 2022 2nd (depends on whether we have a list spot to use on 39 this year or whether we prefer to upgrade a rookie).

Bookmark it.

Swans would be mad not to accept, but who knows with these clowns. Fingers crossed for PSD here. Most neutrals agree that we’ve been very fair in our offers to this point.

I'm not saying we're the reason Dees won a flag... but I'm not not saying it either...
2016 Dees finish 11th - we had none of their picks
2017 Dees finish 9th - we had none of their picks
2018 Dees finish 4th - we had their 2018 r1 & r4 picks
2019 Dees finish 17th - we had none of their picks
2020 Dees finish 9th - we had none of their picks
2021 Dees finish 1st - we had their 2021 r2 pick

I think the evidence is pretty compelling, Your Honour.

That's not the end of the world. So essentially Dawson for 2 picks in the 20s as we were never going to use the latter picks associated with the pick swap and You would expect our second rounder to be somewhere 20-25. Plus we get back Sydney's second round as a bonus.

Do we even have 3 picks for the mandatory 3 picks we need to make?

4,33 and PSD?

or are we assuming that ultimately Sydney will send us a pick
two picks and Rookie upgrade count towards the 3 selections

We have 75 this year as well, fwiw.

But you will always have as many picks as you have vacant list spots. They just get added at the end - which is probably around pick 55 in this draft.

I doubt we intend to use pick 75, as otherwise we wouldn't have been so happy to trade out our 4 picks between 37 & 66.

Points towards us upgrading at least 1 rookie.

Also, I doubt we would be looking to use our new pick 33 for Dawson as we wouldn't wan be intending on our 2nd pick being 75.

Going to be fascinating to see how this all plays out.

I could be wrong about this, but I don't think it's actually possible to "run out" of picks, as such. You have as many picks as you need to fill up your list. The last ones would just come at the end of the the draft, after everyone else has already finished.

As others have noted, rookie upgrades count too. Surely Butts gets an upgrade this year.

For phantom draft reasons - who do people think you might get at pick 4? Right now I've got Erasmus at your pick, but do you think someone else would be more likely, as you know your list needs much better than I do?

Unsurprisingly, Callaghan (on the off chance that he slips through to us), would be the no-brainer choice.

In the very likely event that Callaghan is off the board by our pick, there’s at least 6 players in the mix for us realistically. They are Erasmus, Hobbs, Goater, Rachele, Sinn and Ward. If you polled the Adelaide BF board, I think most would want one of the first 3, with Erasmus and Goater considered the biggest “needs”, and Hobbs considered the safest bet to be a star (high floor). So as per most first rounds ever, we likely won’t draft any of those 3 lol. Bet your house that we won’t be drafting Andrew or Gibcus though if we remain at pick 4. I suppose Sonsie is not completely out of the equation.

I know it’s not what you’re asking, but if I’m in charge I’m keeping the pick trading frenzy going and hitting up Richmond to trade 4 in a deal for 7 and 15, and then drafting Erasmus or Goater at 7 (maybe the decision is made for us, maybe it’s not, but I feel at least one would be there), and Rachele at 15 (and if he’s gone by then, any of Wanganeen-Milera, Draper or Johnson will do), but look, that’s probably a pipe dream.

Yep Butts and Keays to be upgraded. Then two extra rookie spots.

sorry, I know that. I meant in a practical way, we’re not going to use 75 or 80

we seem very short on picks in a useable range.
