Richmond have to many picks not to trade up and seems like they let 17 go so can only assume they going for something bigger.

Richmond get pick 2, 33
GWS pick 4 plus points for Fahey from Richmond
We take pick 7, 26, 28
Would like 15 but don't think it happens

We take 3 picks inside 30 which we have done in 2018, 2019, 2020 (4 picks)

Keays unlikely. Butts and/or Strachan, as both have been on the rookie list for 3 years (to Keays' 2 years).

I wonder about this. Keays had a fantastic year. Choosing to retain him on the rookie list just because we can seems like a slap in the face. It's not like he is signed to a three year deal and he's two years into it, the rookie deals are 12 month contracts, right?

Surely Keays would rightly be pissed off if he told him, hey, nice year mate, but we're going to keep you on the rookie list another year because we can.

If it came down to list places, I imagine we would move ROC on (either delisted, or perhaps move him to the rookie list) to make room for Keays.

Do we have enough uncontracted players left to delist to actually use those picks?

Rookies can be & are frequently signed to multi-year deals - Keays himself signed for 2 years in October 2020. It's only newly drafted rookies who are given 12 month contracts by default, after that clubs can sign them to multi-year contracts, exactly the same as they do with players on the senior list.
https://www.afc.com.au/news/823758/placeholder-keaysstrachan

There is no functional difference between being on the rookie & senior lists. The only difference for a player like Keays, is that the first ~$80K of his salary is outside the salary cap - and that makes no difference to him as a player, only to the club's TPP calculations.

Keays has been on the rookie list for 2 years to date, and there's no pressing reason why his upgrade can't wait until the end of 2022. Butts & Strachan have both been on the rookie list for 3 years, so their upgrades are more pressing.

Interesting moves

I agree we need to find out what we do have in our own crop - so the need for multiple picks is moot

It seems Sydney now are in a tight spot - I dont think 4 is Dawsons value so I would be upset if we gave Sydney that

Probably not for us, but I agree with WW that Andrew could be a star. A lot to work with.

Appreciate .....but maybe a bit soon in the relationship for abbreviated names ......WW19 to you ;)

You have to wonder how the pick swap came about in the first place.

I'm assuming we had a contingency plan in place in the event that Sydney were stalling on accepting Pick 17 & change in a deal with us & WB.

WB have probably said 'look here's the deal we can do for our Pick 17, but it needs to be made by xx time and date'. WB have had their own backup deal to make sure they gain maximum points for their 1st rounder, but I really like that we were able to tie ourselves into a 1st rounder as well in both trade scenarios. Really feels like we've covered our bases.

What to do from here though?

My preference would be send Sydney our 2022 2nd rounder (likely pick 23-28) and a 2022 3rd rounder (likely Pick 40-45)

This values Dawson around the Pick 12-15 mark in terms of points.

Come draft night i'd prefer to take a player at our pick 4 (Pick 6 after F/S & NGA), the only caveat being where a split of trades poses no risk, for example where we split Pick 4 for the Tigers Pick 7 and something else because we know that there's still 4 players on the board that we rate evenly. Unlikely as i'm sure Hamish's talent order is a bit more defined, but who knows.

My guess is that we take a selection at 4, and then Pick 33 is a pretty good position to take a Cooper Murley type. Would also like to see Blayne O'Loughlin on our list.

Yes Talia, Lynch, ROC, Kelly,
Dawson, pick 7, 26, 28

Rookies Davis, Mackay
Project Ruckman, who ever else.

Can't see ROC going past Schoenberg, Pedlar, Berry, McHenry, Pick 4/7

There's a few guys that have some serious wheels forward of centre in the 2nd round onwards that can run through the middle as well and could be huge improvements on Murphy and Rowe

Would have loved to have been the club involved in that Will Brodie salary dump. Not that I think that Will is much of a player, but another in the Keays mould where a new situation might help. Only contracted for 2022 so if he is no good, you take pick 19 (potentially pair with filler for Dawson) and run.

Perhaps he wouldn't have come to SA but I'm of the view we need to continue to build out the 22-26yo portion of our list. Kudos to Freo.

Yep good points

Although it does leave us pretty much pick-less beyond pick 4. We'd really want to hope we hit with our 1st this year
I do think that’s the idea though , from what I’m hearing clubs A) think this years draft is a lottery with 2 yrs no football for many kids and B) it’s not all that strong anyway

certainly isn’t a strong year for SA kids either which we seem to want to focus on

thankfully pick 4 is less speculative as is Dawson if we can get him

He wouldn’t have been a target as we’d rather play Pedlar Shoenberg Berry and hopefully this years first pick and rightly so

As much as some people won’t like to see it, the new offer to Sydney will likely be:

Dees 2022 first
Our 2022 second

for

Dawson
Pick 39 OR Swans 2022 2nd (depends on whether we have a list spot to use on 39 this year or whether we prefer to upgrade a rookie).

Bookmark it.

Swans would be mad not to accept, but who knows with these clowns. Fingers crossed for PSD here. Most neutrals agree that we’ve been very fair in our offers to this point.
Agree - I think this is the exactly what it will be and if they don’t accept it’s pre season draft time ( which is no guarantee of landing him )

We are doing one of the following:

1) Only using 4 and 33 in the draft, and filling the remaining list spots with O’Connor, Dawson and a rookie upgrade (Butts)

2) Receiving 39 back from Sydney in a Dawson trade involving Melbourne’s 2022 first rounder (with another of our future picks also going their way). Here, we would take 4, 33 and 39 to the draft, meaning that either Butts remains on the rookie list, or we delist O’Connor (O’Connor likely to be taken in the rookie draft)

3) Splitting pick 4 for 7 and 15 in a trade with Richmond, and taking 7, 15 and 33 to the draft. Again, this would mean Butts remains on the rookie list or O’Connor is delisted.
Pretty sure you have to use 3 picks in the main draft min so I think receiving a pick from sydney is likely or splitting 4 into 2 picks ( this would only happen after a Dawson deal is done )

Rookie upgrades count towards the 3 mandatory list changes

I just hope Jordan Dawson is worth the gymnastics Reidy's having to endure to land him and just half as good as some on this board seem to think he'll be for Adelaide.

Sorry, I can only tag 5 in a post Danger in Texas ...
Haha tongue in cheek mate, no worries :)

I'd love for us to go with a small forward like Cooper Murley or Paul Curtis, probably. Otherwise, Lohmann and Charlie Molan are a couple of ones I'd be keen on. Brady Hough too (although he might not make it that far, now)

IF our picks remain as is, who would you like to see us target at 33 Danger in Texas PMBangers ?
Depends who's left, Murley has seemingly flown under the radar due to injury, he might appeal for positional need and SA factor (I know thats not a massive thing for this board though). Similarly Motlop could be available as a small forward. Roberts might slide into that range as well

Not an overly positive view there Bicks.

Also Lachie Rankin is one that doesnt get a lot of mention but would be good value in the 30's imo
