Key Off-Season Dates

FAQs & Resources Thread

It has an index at the top with threadmarks so it's easy to find what you're looking for – or easier than scrolling through 250 pages of AFL Rules, Regulations and CBA pdfs anyway.

These sorts of questions are all answered along with a bunch of other resources made by posters from across BigFooty (feel free to add to it!):

I feel this article is a bit unfair on Howes as it sort of diminishes him into steak knives when he is a proper player in his own right.

It’s interesting when you watch the video clips, there is so little footage available but some kids just have this presence about them, great balance, agility and are able to keep their feet. He is definitely one of those players.

From a list management point of view his hybrid style is probably not as big a need as a small forward, key forward or key back (our glaring issues) but he is still a nice piece to have.

They act like the two are happily married and are locked in for life, sure it would help early doors but it could also be a hindrance if both don’t settle.

I don’t hate the idea if we aren’t trading up to grab one of the big 3 (Andrew, Rachele, Gibcus) but if a need does present itself we probably need to address that first for list balance.

Howes can really play though and will be fun to watch.

The article is certainly a tad unfair to Howes but if you look at some of guys we have been linked to with pick 13 in Goater. Draper, Erasmus its certainly a particular type of player and Howes certainly fits that mold.

Mid sized forward sees to be a theme with all the guys they're linked to at 13, think it's a good area to target.

I reckon Howes could fill a Toby role really well in 3 or 4 years time tbh, high half forward with a the ability to be a target, but more likely ends up a Winger given how good he looked there when given the opportunity. The biggest plus imo is his workrate, anyone running both ways despite doing the bulk of their flashy work in the forward half is a big tick for me

If rumours are to believed, we could go for 3 Sandy boys and Fahey, would back retention of that lot

I thought we’d stopped the whole “bring a friend” approach to the draft years ago
I think the whole 'Go home Factor' is greatly reduced at GWS.
Sure you still get it from WA and SA players every now and again. But it's not the GC (sorry Suns). It's Sydney. Culture at the club is good.
We have mostly lost players due to lack of game time, not home sickness. No professional sporting organisation is using pick 13 in the draft as a 'friendship' pick.
Come on. He's probs a great player....and that 13 pick we will have a lot of options.

I would think that it's more a case that the right combination of picks & players rarely presents itself - except in the initial year with lots of picks in the draft, and maybe occasionally afterwards when we had multiple picks.

I'd obviously prefer to select purely for need, but if he's someone we see can have a role at GWS and it's an added benefit being a great mate with an early draft selection who has a slight question on him then so be it.

Apparently North have offered him 1.25 million over 3 years
Obviously we cant match the cash due to the cap, but perhaps we could offer a longer deal to in entice him

Extracting the urine just a touch picking his team mate as #1 🎉 ? :D
Fine, we'll trade up and take 4 Sandy boys in Callaghan, Sinn, Howes and Chesser, you have convinced me
