Key Off-Season Dates

FAQs & Resources Thread

It has an index at the top with threadmarks so it's easy to find what you're looking for – or easier than scrolling through 250 pages of AFL Rules, Regulations and CBA pdfs anyway.

These sorts of questions are all answered along with a bunch of other resources made by posters from across BigFooty (feel free to add to it!):

I believe we were one of the teams that interviewed Chesser twice (I could be mistaking him for Goater), wouldn't shock me at 13 if it ended up being, similar pre-draft story to Bruhn dealing with an injury interrupted year as well as COVID-19 effected season. Mitch Owens seems like a canidate to be selected at 13 as well.

Seems like we’d need SOS level incompetence to NOT get two guys who will really add to the list

It will be interesting to see if the Suns' debacle in losing Greenwood will alter their draft strategy. While Touk Miller was their midfield mainstay this year, until his injury Greenwood provided a lot of grunt (tackles & clearances). They also let go Brodie who would have been of similar skills/role - so do they look inside their team for the replacement (Fiorini, Swallow) which they realistically will have to for the short term, but does it make them more desperate to get Callaghan for the long term, and more likely to pay overs to more up that one position? Or do they now prioritise someone like Hobbs, who's the best pure inside midfielder in the draft? Do they try and trade up to our pick #2, or trade back for two picks, or just take an academy selection such as Will Bella? If looking for two picks, they might consider Hawks with their pick #5 (plus a second rounder), which would likely be a good spot to get Hobbs.

And Liam Jones retirement will alter the second round, as they might prioritise a KPD with that pick (Alleer, Bazzo) whereas that would have been unlikely up until now. Not that it likely impacts our draft.

A fairly bizarre couple of days with interesting ramifications.

Is that opinion or have you heard a whisper?

They have enough depth there, they will take the top player on their board.

As much as they did not want to lose Greenwood, their salary cap is an absolute mess and they have some really good players coming off so it actually helps in a way.

That club is a complete basket case and at the end of next year they will be broken up.

Don’t know about broken up.
They want two clubs in each mainland state and the grassroots is growing up there.
Maybe the Sharks take over the licence?

Sorry I should explained that better, they will be broken up losing players. Adelaide likely to pick up a couple and King to Bombers firming as well.

They are just going to be needing to rebuild again…it’s horrible. AFL want that team to work, Clarko is the key, he could save them.

I've heard they love him, but they also love Mac, but I did think it was weird they put a similar style midfielder to Hobbs out 🤷‍♀️

If GC are ultimately swapping Greenwood for Hobbs that's a pretty good move imo, although the optics are bad Greenwood likely took a big offer from North and while still has plenty of good footy left in him he's not exactly someone that's going to move the needle for them and drastically change the direction of the team.

Also something to monitor

Freo are supposedly going to move up to Crows pick on draft night, I wonder if they use 8 and 19 for the Crows pick and then 4 and 6 for Pick 2 for Callaghan? Would be a massive overs deal in our favour mind you, but could be a choice between Callaghan OR Rachele and Gibcus for example

If we can split 2 in to 4 & 6 that would be unbelievable

If they offered 4 and 6 we should say yes before the conversation is even finished. Could walk away with Rachele, Gibcus and still someone at 13.
