FAQs & Resources Thread

It has an index at the top with threadmarks so it's easy to find what you're looking for – or easier than scrolling through 250 pages of AFL Rules, Regulations and CBA pdfs anyway.

These sorts of questions are all answered along with a bunch of other resources made by posters from across BigFooty (feel free to add to it!):

You have way better handle on this than me ... what do you think of draft night if we walked away with

1/ Callaghan
2/ Gibcus or MacAndrew
3/ Fahey ( maybe matching GC at 19)

Trying to bring our 1st next year into this year somehow.
That would be an outstanding draft!

I'm strongly against trading our first rounder from next year forward personally, but if the recruiters feel thats the right move then it'd be great if we landed Gibcus, Andrew or Amiss with it

Ok - just sometimes when their is pressure on the coach/club get next years pick into this year and back the coach. Maybe a "bit" of internal politics but the right players in the long-term.

I don't think there's that much pressure on Leon internally tbh, to get us into the finals this year with the circumstances and injuries is impressive, I've always said (even when I wasn't a massive Leon fan) that if we got a couple of stronger Assistants around him it'd be more beneficial than sacking him. Even if there was, none of the KPP's this year, bar maybe 2 or 3 mature aged options will make a significant impact next season, if we trade in for them it'll be because we project them to be elite rather than to make an immediate impact

I never thought there was a tremendous amount of pressure on Leon, even after 2020 I never thought it was at the point where it was "make the finals or your're out" and with all the wide spread credit Leon's been given this year I don't think he's in any danger of being sacked barring a complete disaster next year whether people like it or not. More senior assistants are always a good idea no matter the coach, Leon and the rest of the front office can probably look at this draft through a fairly long term lense and not have to worry about instant high impact rookies this season.

If TOJ is set on a move to Adelaide the crows could be an option with a straight swap for Elliot H to link up the brothers

200cm 98 kgs 23 years old 27 games

Primarily played forward but if the coaches see it in him he could be turned into a tall defender, next season developing into the position and then Keefe and Davis gone he could play on the +200cm tall forwards
Should be cheap salary wise also but again both clubs and both players involved need to agree

SOS just sounds like he has an axe to grind against his last 2 employers

Coniglio does need a good run with injury and he will get back into form
I don’t think what he is saying is malicious

I doubt we trade cogs… but what he is saying has merit

We can’t have that much money tied up in a player playing half forward. Now if he moves back into the mids next year all good

If we do retain both Flynn & Riccardi - our last 2 unsigned main list players, just the rookie list players left unsigned - then we only have 3 spots available for the national draft, and 3 overall. Which would mean that we have to lose someone off the main list anyway; either ToJ leaves or we'd have to delist someone with a view to re-selecting them in the rookie draft. That could be what we'd do with Phil Davis, given the lack of clarity around signing an extension, but poor reward for a club legend and former captain.

ToJ is worth more based on production, but doubt that that translates into anything more than a straight swap given ToJ's personal circumstances. I had thought similar - Elliot, while taller & heavier, is less well performed, but I too would be interested whether he could be turned into a defender.

Wasted is the word I use to describe SOS's 1st round pick selections. Then there is other words to describe his trades as Carlton list manager, none of which avoid the swear filter.
I ve said many times he trades well.
Drafts very poorly.

To me it seems that 2022 is make or break for Coniglio in that he needs to get back to his best and it will be fierce competition for midfield spots with Hopper, Taranto, Kelly and Ward going into next season with good years behind them and Cogs starting from a long way back then Green almost with a starting spot for him
What I am saying is that Cogs need to force his way into the mids with pre season form on the track and in the pre-season games

Ward Taranto Kelly
Ruck Hopper Coniglio
HFF Green Bench Bruhn/other

Taranto may be HFF for some games if they feel he is a significant threat forward or Green with his marking could be looked at

With all due respect to many of our players - they need a huge preseason, work twice as hard as they have ever before. Its only going to benefit them, plus gives us a genuine chance to finish higher up the 8. If they cant or dont do it ... some BIG decisions need to be made next year. Only time will tell.

INTEREST BUILDS IN SUNS' PICK
RICHMOND and Adelaide are among the clubs interested in Gold Coast's pick No.3 with the Suns open to splitting the selection for multiple top picks.

The Suns inquired about trading up to pick No.1 with North Melbourne listening to offers, but the Roos are strongly tipped to hold the selection with South Adelaide teenager Jason Horne-Francis in their sights.

As reported in Inside Trading earlier this month, the Suns are open to trading their top-three pick for two early selections, which has seen the Tigers show interest. Richmond is well placed to make a move up the board with picks 7, 15, 26 and 28 inside the top 30.

The Tigers could package multiple selections to jump up the order, with future picks also an option at their disposal.

The Crows hold pick No.4 at the draft but that will be bumped back to No.6 after bids on father-son pair Nick Daicos and Sam Darcy and they have also shown interest in potentially edging up the board. Adelaide also holds pick 23 but will also be looking to negotiate a trade with Sydney for Jordan Dawson.

Finn Callaghan, Ben Hobbs and Josh Ward are all midfield options pressing to be top-six draft picks, while Josh Gibcus and Mac Andrew are the tall options in the mix outside of Darcy.

Any pick swap deal at the top end could come much closer to November's NAB AFL Draft, however, with clubs able to swap selections up until a week before the event – and then again during the draft. - Callum Twomey
Wanted to highlight this tidbit about clubs moving up for the Suns pick because I think it might be an opportunity for us to take advantage of a club moving up. Callaghan is the only clear prospect that clubs are moving up the order for, maybe Gibcus as well, but given Adelaide and Richmonds list I feel Callaghan is the most likely target, I could see a club moving into Pick 3 giving us a Future first as well as 3 for Pick 2 and a future 3rd to secure Callaghan in a similar way we did with TT

I assume they're targeting the suns pick because we're not interested in trading our pick, there's no reason for a team to target pick 3 without having first checked if pick 2 is avaliable. Unless an overwhelming offer presents itself.

And perhaps we, as pmb suggests, said get us 3 and another top 10 and we can talk .... seems weird to be chasing 3 so hard with jhf and Callaghan likely gone

Yeah that was more what I was getting at thanks Crush, I think there has to be something to this involving us, whether that is we're locked into taking Gibcus at Pick 2 or we've demanded a bit for Pick 2 with Crows and Tigers wanting Callaghan, I don't see any club moving up to 3 for a Ward/ Hobbs type

We could always trade pick 2 for hugh greenwood .... I’ve been reading that he is the best mid in the comp
