With luke Parker resigning with swans, I guess other clubs might push harder for green and hopper.
Does anybody think We should let one leave ( cogs, hopper, green), it is hard to see how we keep all those players who prefer midfield only happy.
It's an interesting - and often divisive - question, isn't it? I understanding the point, that we have ''too many'' grunts, and not enough with speed and zip out of the contest. I look at Cal Ward, though, and although he had a great year, he's over 30 and the end of his career is coming up. We need, IMHO, to be looking at him playing mainly 2s to develop the next generation, and being injury cover. Similarly MdB, perhaps pulling him in when a hard tag is required. Tim Taranto can spend time forward, therefore leaving Green/Hopper/Coniglio as the main grunts, with Kelly/Whitfield/Ash/XOH/Bruhn (and potentially incoming Callaghan) with the outside and inside/outside roles. That's a pretty stacked side, but we also need to cater for injuries, 2 we can cover, 3 or 4 and we're starting to get thin.

In summary, no I wouldn't want to actively shop any of the players, but if Cogs/Hopper/Taranto did up and leave, it wouldn't be the end of the world (provided we received adequate trade value). Green and Hopper would be the guys I really would like to hold onto, because they're NSW/ACT kids, and who we need to be able to hold up to juniors as the inspiration to succeed in this neck of the woods. The only reason I'd actively shop someone, would be if we could either trade, or get draft picks, that resolved a significant hole in the squad - such as main KPF, or upcoming KPD.

Once Cal & MdB retire in another couple of years, we should probably look at replacing them from a second or third round pool - someone who might be grateful for the opportunity and happy to develop in VFL (hopefully it recovers post-COVID!) rather than draft another inside grunt who will up and leave if not fast-tracked into the 1s. We need to focus first round selections on a main KPF, a KPD, and probably a Greene-replacement (small/medium goal-kicking forward) in the medium term.

Green is contracted and if the club has its way he will be a lifer. On Hopper if he doesn't re-sign not a bad outcome and balance would better with Green and Taranto being our grunt guys and with the picks for hopper and the picks we already have we would definitely be able to get best available as well as addressing any needs thru the draft.

With Cogs its safe to say the club would love not to have that monster contract on the books given his current form and injury issues but seems were stuck with him for better or worse.

It's hard to be sure given that most haven't played against meaningful competition, think I gave my list of ones that impressed me through two of their NAB League games in Harry Rowston, Luke Lawrence and Angus Curry, Curry looks the best but is an undersized midfielder so inherently drops down in rankings regardless of skill ala Errol Gulden
Have since watched some more academy footage, Lawrence is pretty clearly the top prospect imo. Not a massive ball winner but just does some crazy stuff, got pace and gets around opponents well through the midfield, has a good leap and mark in the forward half, the only issue I've got right now is his kicking inconsistencies, but it's more an issue of penetration than inaccuracy/ execution.

two more to throw on the radar as well that also made the NSW/ACT U17 squad, Dayne Posthuma who's a pretty decent key defender, has some athleticism and uses the ball fairly well, and Nathan Battaglia who's an athletic forward, in particular his leap, but will need a lot of work on his disposal

I think it's really difficult and we probably have one or maybe two to many. Hopper is the one that'd I'd be "okay" with leaving, he's great but ultimately he's fairly one dismensional as a strictly inside midfielder. I'm certainly not actively shopping any of them but I'm also not too upset if he leaves, for me Taranto is the one we really have to lock in. His two way ability and his craft up forward at his age are far too valuable we can't let him go. I think with a healthy pre-season Cogs will be good to go next season. Green's not up for a while but he's one I'd look to sign long term as well, really impressive at such a young age. Seems like a contract extension is on the way soon for Bruhn which is great really like the point of difference he offers our midfield paired with contested ball winning ability. Ward and MDB are probably going to be gone soon which we'll help ease some midfield pressure.

I actually don’t mind if we lose an inside midfielder… we need run. We are stacked for bulls. We would be well compensated in any trade.

Where can we see footage of these guys?

Think we aim to keep all of them

Hey team,
Over the past few weeks the bigfooty draftcast, featuring yours truly occassionally, has been looking at clubs as their seasons have ended and diving into what they migjt do at the draft. Next week GWS is up with the lions, so if you have questioms about any particular prospects, or any comments on what you think we should do feel free to drop it in the draftcast thread;

It will feature Pie 4 Life so youll get a fresh view rather than just me regurertating my wishes

Note: we will automatically talk about Fahey, Voss and Grintell

Cheers

Jacob Hopper officially re-signs for 2 years 🙂👍

Disagree, he was really good as both a ruck and a forward this year and a team needing help in either position will likely have interest. I think it's crucial him and Briggs are both here long term
He did a good job, can't see another club knocking the door down to get him.
He'd have to be motivated to go, unlikely he'll get significant more opportunity or money at another club. Also no go home factor.
Be shocked if he goes. Unless we don't want him.. that would surprise me.

Locked down every one we really wanted to keep.
A good year on most fronts really.

Unless something unexpected happens it will be first time since 2012 (only Hombsch left the club that year) we lose no one of any significance. Perhaps a turning point for the club.

Would be absolutely fantastic. We are so close, just need that tad of luck to go our way. Hopefully we can land a trade or 2 then nail that draft.

Richmond for one, they are hoping ( big footy board at least ) to have Chol and/or CCJ go to gold coast to get pick 3, so Flynn might appeal as a replacement. One would guess if mumford plays on clubs will believe flynn is gettable.

CCJ or Chol for pick 3!
Please.
As if the Gold coast are going to give pick 3 for a player who has proven to be a handy depth player with potential to be best 22.

I think they are proposing 7 and ccj for 3. Not as ambitious/ ridiculous as hawthorn board who want picks 14 and 18 for tom mitchell.
