I don't know the details of where he went in the draft but you can't apply the logic of a player slipping therefore we wouldn't have picked him either, if that's what is being done. It's up to the club to make the right choices. Besides, there's plenty of other ways we could have utilised the pick during live trading.

Essendon had 2 picks before the pick we traded to them. They used their first pick (was #6, before Dogs and Swans matching bids) to get Cox.

You really think we had a chance of trading into the top 5 if we didn't take Saad?

Im thinking unfortunately that we should have just signed Williams for hbf, treloar for mid and took cox at 8 now 😬, hope im wrong
The fact Treloar was available and cheap and we didnt put ourselves in the race is extremly frustrating, was exactly the type of midfielder we need, instead we took a HBF and tried to turn him into a mid for the same $.

True, but how many of those 15 blokes are on about $800k?

Atleast 3. Cripps, Gov and Charlie.

We need to get the best out of every player on our list regardless of their wage. Once on the list the currency used to acquire a player should be thrown out the door. It’s about getting the best out of everyone and we clearly aren’t/can’t.

No he was just literally taken before, what was our first pick.

Yes, like your post :thumbsupv1:
But there are things you haven't taken into consideration..
  • At this stage we are a bottom 8 team/list looking to offload players to afford other players
  • We would have to replace best 22 - Newman, Murphy & Betts, with what $$? Just made our depth weaker
  • We desperately need a KPF/Ruck, KPDers & more midfield talent
  • What happens if any or multiple of our players (Cuningham, Kemp, Dow, Stocker, Kemp) came on in a big way how do we pay them?
Glad I'm not a list manager :winkv1:

Could be wrong..
But from memory think it was.. Rookie wages $50,000 is not included in the cap
I just want to know, who the hell are Norf paying? There is no way they would even be coming close to paying 90% of their cap.

I hope that's sarcasm.

Pick 8 drifted out to 10, not Cox (which is how I think you've misread this one).

We had Pick 8.
Traded it to Essendon who already had 6 and 7.
Their Picks 6, 7 and 8 became Picks 8, 9 and 10 after academy bids earlier in the draft.
They took Cox (8), Perkins (9) and Reid (10).

Had we kept the pick, and Essendon rated the kids in the order they selected them, then Cox and Perkins wouldn't have been available to us.

What is really frustrating is that Norf have been dangling Goldstein for the past 5 years. We should have made a serious play for him. He just seems to be getting better with age. Huge work rate and gets to a lot of contests. Kruezer should be forcing Pittonet and Dekoning to go and watch Norf play and watch how Goldstein does his business.

Which is why i am a little worried they could make a god father offer to H. If i am head of list management at North I am giving Harry a 10 mil, 8 year contract and tying him up with his brother long term as the key pillars for their rebuild.. How they would get the trade done is interesting, but they would have the PSD threat..

Well Pick 1 this year and a likely top 4 pick next year would at least see fair recompense.

Martin, Kelly, De Goey... no one has ever wanted a piece of the Norf War Chest.

Begs the question, why?

You would think that he'd have done everything he could to get his fitness right to play such a role that he requested...

Doc should be playing as a +1 imo.
During the pre-season, I saw him at the local gym in Brunswick. He looked good, but - I would suggest that he was injured then. He was doing very light weight at a low intensity. I reckon he bunged up his shoulders or back last year and had an interrupted pre-season as a result. Watch how many contests Zac gets to but can't collect the footy off the ground. He would've got two hands to the footy about 35 times on the weekend, he just couldn't take clean possession.

When he gets it all right, watch out.

Can't see Harry wanting to leave a club coming to the end of their rebuild to go to a club at the start of a rebuild, especially given that the extra $200k a year they might offer is going to be watered down by tax anyway. North can't be the happiest place to be right now either, and I'm sure he'd be getting that vibe from his brother.

Don't think there are many VIC clubs who'd have the combination of cap space and genuine appeal, they're one or the other. Dunno if Harry would move interstate, but I wouldn't have thought it would be high on his list of things to do.

I'm genuinely not at all worried about Harry's signature. It'll come. We've got the cap space, we're starting to come good, and he's too important a piece of the puzzle for us to play funny buggers in negotiations.

Agree, i think its very unlikely and I am sure we have enough space to offer him a fair and reasonable contract, however we would be naïve to think that other clubs would not be opening up the cheque book looking to lure him... The other smoking gun might be Sydney who have almost rid themselves of Buddy's contract and shown that in the past they are bold and prepared to offer big long term $ to lure high profile key forwards like Lockett, Hall, Tippett & Buddy.

It's a nice negotiation point for his manager to make us pay up though.

This is my thinking. He did have 10 clearances in his first game so does have the ability. I’m all for putting a better two way running mid in there but we simply do not have one. None of his potential replacements are good runners so we may aswell play him there.

That right there is a big issue with our list right now.

Not enough good, two way running mids on our list.

Cripps, Dow, Stocker, Setterfield, Kennedy...that's too many inside mids with low running power, speed and agility and it's hurting our team. You could argue SPS also might not have the tank to be a mid.

I think it restricts the team Teague can pick...eg wanting to keep guys like Cottrell, Newnes, Gibbons in the team because they are some of our fittest guys who can run two ways to try and cover our poor runners. Right now only Walsh & Curnow are genuine mids who can actually run. Whereas you look at the Doggies midfield and they are stacked with strong runners, which is a big reason why they ran over us in the end despite our game style beating theirs for 3 1/2 quarters.

I'm hoping that the introduction of Owies to the seniors, the reserves form of Honey, and the development of Durdin might free up Fisher for a return to some midfield duties.

He's been good forward, but there's no reason we can't have him and Cunners splitting a mid and forward role 50/50 between them.

100% agree

We have the right players only need one or two
The missing cogs in our list are the coaches they let the players do what they want with no repurcusions eg Williams weight , Murphy not tackling , gibbons playing bruise free footy, cas playing injured , newnes not being accountable etc etc etc .
Stop blaming the young players they need proper coaching and guidance which will bring natural development .
Our system is to blame not SOS he has picked very good kids who could be anything eg Dow, Stocker , honey , Durdin etc etc .
Bloody coach these young men properly and drop these so called seniors into the seconds so they can find form to reacquaint themselves with why they were picked in the first place .
Play those who put their bodies over the ball snd show that they want to play show me spirit and I’ll show you a proud Carlton supporter

One or two plus large swaths of depth, and if Cripps goes, that becomes three or four.
