Yep. Owies is as safe as anyone, in his own little Cat B bucket, both now and for a fourth year in 2022. So he is excluded from the below.

Presumably we will go 36-6 again for our Senior-Cat A split, because of the salary cap (and soft cap!) advantages. So when you boil it down, as of now:

Senior = 34 (with Murphy and Casboult gone)
Incoming (for the sake of argument) = 5: Cerra, Hewett, National Draft #1, #2, #3
Which means we need to get our 2021 Seniors to 31, i.e. "remove" 3.
Uncontracted = 4: O'Brien, SPS, Ramsay, Gibbons

No wonder O'Brien is being told to wait; he probably only stays if SPS goes. And presumably the Club would prefer a useable pick for SPS (rather than Brander, who would take another list spot). Big trouble for Gibbons and Ramsay, by the look of things.

I have to say, allowing Newnes to hit his 2022 trigger looks like poor list-management - we have left ourselves nowhere to go. Do we get any dispensation at all for Docherty?

Cat A Rookie = 7 (with Betts gone)
Contracted = 1?: Mirkov
Which leaves a maximum of 5 Cat A spots, and we already have at least 6 candidates:
Kennedy, Honey, Cottrell, Parks, McDonald, Boyd... plus Senior delistees?

Conceivably ND#3 could be Kennedy or Honey (especially if it ends up being a very late pick), but still, not much wriggle room.

Far superior sounds a little crazy after seeing the stats. And what the stats don’t give us is their ability without the ball. Chasing backwards….who out of those two put the all implied pressure on the inside 50 kicker…it definitely isn’t Cripps.

the only key stats of without the ball I see is tackles, intercepts and frees against…and Viney won that by a landslide. And let’s not forget Cripps had a healthy 8-9% extra time on ground.

Could Mirkov play a couple of games next year, or is he miles off? I don't think we'll bring in another ruck (maybe draft a ruck/forward to replace Cas). Is TDK, Pitto, Mirkov, McDonald (if we keep him, hope we do) and SOS ruck depth that we can get by with in 2022? Could we see McKay have a run in the ruck? Considering he played 5 C grade VAFA games and 3 VFL games before getting injured... Missed all of 2020 with lockdowns... I would guess he is that far off AFL standard that he is a 20/80 chance of ever playing AFL football.

We would have close to the worst Ruck division in the comp, realistically it's been as bad as long as we have this millennium.
We've only had two good ruckman since Madden, one was always injured and the other, we traded for peanuts to Adelaide.
It's actually quite laughable how weak we are in this position and still no talk of addressing it.

I would like to see Cottrell be told to get in the gym and spend the first half of next season in the VFL working on his positioning, improving kicking hitting targets, tackling etc. He has speed and mongrel, just what we are lacking.
Could be Ed's replacement.

Doesn't say anything about rookie/senior list. I assume senior (and I think the Rookie thing was a special one-time COVID allowance).

I wrote this in Bluemour thread: Kennedy is good enough to play AFL, but not guaranteed games if Cripps, Walsh, Cerra*, Dow, Setters (2020 form) are all fit and in the 22. Not so much an issue on talent, but in terms of inside/pace balance.

Perfect fringe player. Not on big $$$, but can perform more than adequately when needed.
