End of the day, we joined their league. A new national league was not formed. My example of Victorian media bias is when the collective AFL media tried to get Essendon off a drug cheating accusation, minimizing the scope of the program, looking to absolve the players for taking banned drugs, and then welcoming back the drug cheats with open arms (or in the case of Jobe Watson, commentating jobs).
Meanwhile the same media accused us of harming player health and welfare with our ill-fated camp, wanting us investigated and sanctioned for a situation orders of magnitude less serious. Oh and also some said we should receive draft sanctions for breaching Covid rules - the same level of sanction given to a club found guilty of drug cheating at the highest court in sport (a club still allowed to receive pick 1 during a year the majority of their squad were banned from playing)
The VFL expanded to become a "National League". But it really is just the VFL still.
This attitude is intrinsic to the fabric of the league.
