Native American Jim Thorpe won the pentathlon and the decathlon in 1912, but was stripped because he played some semi-pro baseball before the Games. He also played major league baseball and early NFL after the games. An amazing athlete.
He was one of the 3 or 4 earlies who virtually made pro gridiron popular, but apparently he was so good he would have been dominant in any era.

That reminds me. Last week my kid watched Cool Runnings at school when the teacher couldn't be arsed or whatever.
It's the exact same movie I used to always have to watch at school when the teacher couldn't be arsed.
We used to get Grease in that situation

another notable thing about Thorpe was he was the first Native American I heard about as a young boy who not one of the old warriors who had fought the white expansion across the continent. And the only one until the 70s.

Speaking of Shawshank Redemption, I remember Stephen King talking about once he was in a shop and an old lady approached him and said "I know who you are. You write all those awful scary books. Why can't you write something uplifting like Shawshank Redemption?" King replied "Actually, I wrote that too." The old lady snapped back "No you didn't. Don't lie!" and walked off.

That is so funny i read a "things you didnt know about TSR" today.. they kept the whole Stephen king thing hush hush on purpose they didnt want ppl thinking it was another usual SK horror story.

Yeah, the next one I heard of was Billy Mills in the 64 Marathon.
