I've never been. But what is Moomba without the parade and bird Man rally?
What do you do there?

I've never been either; I don't even watch much of the parade, though I don't mind watching the birdman rally and the water skiing on TV, though the latter had been cancelled by the Victorian Water Ski Association (this week decided to cancel its 2021 Nautique Moomba Masters water sports event).

I did found this as a brief description of the event:
The annual Moomba Waterfest is a celebration of the City of Melbourne and of the diverse communities that breathe life and character into its public spaces and give strength to its cultural fabric.

Kinda sounds like Pako Festa but on a larger scale since it's being held in a larger city...

Here's a photo from previous years, and I'm guessing this is what they would have tried to go ahead with this year on a smaller scale & within fenced environment so that they could control movement in & out, ensuring those attending had their tickets etc

Since last nights announcement some people have been quick to jump on Andrews for it being canceled but it appears to be a council decision & the government is pushing for a reconsideration:

Major Events Minister Martin Pakula has flagged there is still hope the Moomba Festival could go ahead.
Mr Pakula has is urging the City of Melbourne to reconsider their decision to cancel the festival for the first time in the event’s 66-year history.

Mr Pakula said it wasn’t necessary to stop the event and that further discussions to reach a solution would take place on Friday.

“I thought the decision was premature and I’ve asked them to reconsider,” he said.

“I hope City of Melbourne can reconsider some time today.

“I’d much rather see council think about a smaller Moomba, a pared back Moomba, than no Moomba at all.

“The sense that I got was that council would have a look at that today.”

The City of Melbourne on Thursday decided to scrap the event, planned to kick off on March 5, amid reduced crowd capacities and the cancellation of some of the festival’s most popular attractions.

Lord Mayor Sally Capp said last week’s snap lockdown had also contributed to the decision to axe the event with interstate suppliers unwilling to commit to the festival.

Oh yeah, few rides and shit. Like Gala in Geelong I guess. Meh.

The following video is the perfect example of what can go wrong in a birdman competition when you aren't very smart with your "plane" of choice - and, a piano isn't a very smart option

She broke her back in the fall, at the time it was unknown if she would be paralysed or make a full recovery - not sure what the outcome was

It's not necessarily an easy video to watch

Brutal. But ay, to make an awesome entertaining omelette, gotta break some eggs.

Wondering how all those who've spent the past 18 hours bitching about Andrews will feel after this announcement that the MCC have back flipped on their decision from yesterday & will instead proceed with Moomba

Melbourne City Council has back-flipped on its decision to cancel the Moomba festival with the event to go ahead across the Labor Day long weekend.

It comes after the Victorian government said there’d been a “mix-up” in communication with City Hall on Friday morning.

Now the council has announced a revised plan without the traditional parade, water skiing and Birdman Rally.

There will still be rides, performers and food trucks with buildings across the city to be lit up in red – as a sign of love for Melbourne.
